Introduction

Another one, solo trip this time.

Flight 1 - Adamvs (3 notes)

Had at the estate, hosted by Amy.

White
2018 Adamvs Sauvignon Blanc USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
97 points
Amazing aromas of quince and pear, clean minerals notes, deep and clean grass, white and yellow flowers, and a gentle subtle honey note but with a nice intensity. As it sits in the class and comes closer to room temp, there is a nice gentle toast note that comes around.

Flavors of white clean fruits like sand pear with clean and gentle minerals. Lightly soft yellow fruits, soft creaminess, nicely hay, dried earth, and nice salinity as it comes to room temp.

I don't have as much SBs as I would like but I don't think this is your ordinary SB. The ones I've had are usually lighter fare but this one has a lot of good things going on and constantly kept my interest piqued. This isn't light but also not considered heavy, evolved very nicely in the glass and was enjoyable at both cooler and room temps. So curious how this will be with more age.. you can age SBs, right?
Red
2016 Adamvs Cabernet Sauvignon Teres USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Aromas of purple flowers, soft red fruits, spice box, clean oak and soft earth.

Flavors of deep red fruits with dark blue hues, gentle spice, soft but deep earth, and gentle notes of aged oak.

Very approachable, soft in style and rounded (no hard edges, no elbows sticking out).
Red
2016 Adamvs Cabernet Sauvignon Quintvs USA, California, Napa Valley
94 points
Aromas of deep yet soft red plums (the ones with just a little bit of age), integrated soft earth, white and purple flowers, light oak and a slight streak of minerals.

The flavors have a bit more bolder dark blue and deep red fruits, deep earth, soft but bold oak with a soft spice and dried minerals from a pond.

Just a notch bolder than the Teres with the intensity slightly upped.

Flight 2 - Almacerro (4 notes)

This wasn't a tasting. Hung out with the awesome Lindsay. Had these wines out on the terrace at the home. It was quite warm outside so had to put a disclaimer in the notes that heat might've played a factor here.

Also, if that Sauvignon Blanc wasn't hard enough to find already, it's gonna be even more so now. Sorry, Lindsay! Please don't kill me.

White
2020 Domaine Jean-Paul Balland Sancerre France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
94 points
Soft pears, gentle river minerals and yellow flowers on the nose. Aromatics were quite strong.

Flavors of yellow pears that are just a touch ripe, slightly bitter minerals with a gentle savoriness, and grass on an open field on a clear spring day.

I absolutely love coming across gems like these. Not knowing a particular attribute in a wine, price in this case, sometimes seem to allow you to be more open. This SB was drinking way above its price tag, guessed the price range to be $70 - $100.
Red
2018 Almacerro Proprietary Red Blend USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
95 points
Aromas of dark green pine and twigs, dark fruits with a some spice, light fresh plums, and very floral pink flowers. The nose in general was very aromatic. The pink flowers almost make the dark fruits appear lighter.

On the palate were streaks of deep, dark red fruits, similar dark greens from the nose, light and bright shiny minerals. The greens appear to fade with some air time.

The heat might've had some affect on the aromas and flavors. I might've enjoyed this a bit more if it were cooler around cellar temp and let it slowly come to room temp. It was quite toasty outside.

2018 Almacerro Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

Aromas of dark roses, dark red fruits and black berries, deep earth, purple flowers like violets or lavender, some chocolate with some time and subtle black olives with more time. The olive note was quite nice.

Flavors of deep dark fruits, earthiness, softly spiced oak, dark minerals, great intensity and a bit of wildness in a good way. There is a freshness to this that brings swiftness on the palate.. thinking that's the mountain fruit showing off. 97+

Aromas of red fruits with just a touch more brightness compared to the '18, a bit of olives, dark green leaves and rich earthiness from a forest floor.

On the palate was a nice pitch of deep red fruits, rich silkiness, black fruits, and a subtle touch of macerated, creamy fruits. I was shocked to get this creamy fruit note, especially coming from the hands of Francoise! This particular note that I love and miss so much is not sloppy nor in your face, very nice finesse here. 97-98+
