A cosy evening with family

Introduction

I had my first fine wine experiences with one of my uncles. Now that I collect wine myself, I wanted to taste some of my bottles with him and his family.
The tasting was organized around 3 CS-based wines from the 1996 vintage on three continents. It was concluded with a beautiful Ermitage.
All wines were great, but Moss Wood really shone and suprised us.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
1996 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
95 points
I bought this bottle in a pristine state a couple of months ago for 55 CHF.
Opened 45 minutes before drinking. Very youthful with a pure, mouth coating expression of fruit. One of the guests identified aromas of liquorice as time went by. Long finish.
Beautiful wine and a guests' favorite. Wish I had bought more bottles.
Red
1996 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Based on my previous experience with this wine, I opened it 1 hour before drinking. More boastful than the last bottle for sure with typical Napa fruit. Drinking very well now.
Red
1996 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
93 points
Opened 45 minutes before drinking.
Great nose of mature Bordeaux. On the palate, all in balance with earthy notes and a long finish. Unfortunately the wine felt a bit hollow in midpalate. Very good, but not great.

Red
2006 M. Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
94 points
At first a bit jammy, but it dissipated quickly. Superb wine really with some Burgundian accents (a guest noted it reminded him of a Vosne-Romanée).
Good to drink now, but I am sure it will develop nicely with time. Next bottle in five years if I can wait that long.
