Flight 1 - Before Dinner (6 notes)

White
2019 Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Floral and spice with a trace too much new oak for now, but clearly showing the substance for everything to harmonize. Lots of rich and lush orchard fruit throughout. Charming and engaging now, better from 2025 forward.
Red
2011 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
flawed
Drinkable but slightly oxidized, so possibly heat damaged at some point. Previous bottles tasted in 2018 and 2019 were much better.
Red
2013 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
Black cherry with lots of nearly sweet spice, very good weight and balance. Drinking very well now.
Red
2017 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
93 points
From magnum. I am surprised this is so forward and already accessible, given it was more backward when tasted at Dujac in the summer of 2018. Beautifully Vosne spice with very good balance, with good enough weight and power, picking up steam through to its long-ish finish. Very good now
Red
2013 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée La Colombiere France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
89 points
Light black fruit with subtle spice and very good balance. Wonderful for Village wine, albeit a pricey Village wine. Very good now.

Red
1990 Château Pape Clément France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
90 points
Small glass. Very ripe and fleshy, this comes across as fully mature and starting to lose some energy, and while still good, I'd drink up soon.

Flight 2 - During/ After Dinner (13 notes)

White
2018 Domaine Michel Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Rich, ripe and fleshy, but with a sneaky amount of substance and energy coming through from middle forward. Very good already now, probably some slight further upside.
Red
2004 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Completely charming and engaging with red and black cherry, licorice and floral notes. Character is exactly as expected, but I also expected slightly more complexity and concentration, but I guess that's why this is white label in 2004. Very good now with a long life going forward.
Red
1996 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
90 points
From magnum, which I think really helped here. Black and red cherry with a meatiness and 1996's ever-present firm structure. Grand Cru concentration clearly coming through, there is a lot to enjoy here, even if not quite as harmonious as the 1999 and 2002 also served.
Red
1999 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
91 points
Mature black cherry with braised meat. everything well balanced and softened, this is slightly more mature than I would consider ideal, or compared with previous (better) bottles.

2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
93 points
Mt favorite of the 96/99/02 vertical, it is no surprise this the freshest, but also easily the most layered and harmonious, even if not the most powerful. very good now.
Red
1989 Château Angélus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
95 points
Served alongside the 1990, this is another 1989 that keeps getting better and better. Rich and powerful with a vibrant edge.

1990 Château Angélus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
94 points
Alongside the 1989 vintage. Powerful, ripe, and harmonious, this has always been a beauty, but tonight the 1989 seems to have caught up and even moved out in front.
Red
1966 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
90 points
Charming and intriguing, even if not as complex as the ideal aged Bordeaux at the half-century mark. But charming and wonderfully clean.
Red
1982 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
95 points
A great bottle of a wine that hasn't been the most consistent. Powerful and broad array of black fruit with meat, cigarbox and background emerging earth notes, all with very silky structure.

2004 Domaine Ponsot Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
82 points
Small glass. Mature, slightly green, slightly dirty.
Red
1985 Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Mature black fruit with faint meat and lots of layered complexity. Even better than previous bottles.
Red
2012 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
90 points
Charming red fruit with Vosne spice and very good balance, good weight. Better/ fresher than the previous time tasted earlier this year.
Red
2016 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
92 points
Lots of red cherry, with black cherry, spice and dried herbs, and a subtle meatiness, all very balanced and accessible. Very good now with lots going on.
