Flight 1 - Arrival (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2006 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
95 points
PnP. Wide open and drinking beautifully with precision and depth. Drink these while you're waiting on the 96 and 02.
White - Sparkling
1995 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection France, Champagne
93 points
PnP. So young and fresh, but with lots of depth and acidity. This is a really special wine that could use a few more years in the bottle to come together.

Flight 2 - Old Monty (6 notes)

White
1986 Louis Jadot Le Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
PnP. A bit tired and past prime.
White
1988 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
95 points
PnP. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant for the age. Fully mature, but very enjoyable.
White
1989 Remoissenet Père et Fils Le Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Really good; surprisingly so. Lots of depth and well developed without being over oxidized. This is not a lauded producer, but was better than average for the flight.
White
1992 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
92 points
PnP. Not quite there compared to the 88.
White
1993 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
96 points
PnP. Absolutely stunning. Perfect bottle with freshness, acidity and depth, layers and layers on the palate and a long finish. Shows how great fully mature Monty can be. WOTF by far.
White
1993 Domaine Ramonet Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
PnP. Tired and a bit oxydized.

Flight 3 - Young Monty (4 notes)

White
2012 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Bright and fresh with a lifted palate. Very nice.
White
2012 Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet Domaine France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. A clear second compared to the Drouhin. Not bad at all, just not very exciting.
White
2013 Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet Domaine France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Again, not bad, just not very exciting. Both Bouchards were surprisingly second pack today.
White
2013 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Le Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Really good. So bright with lots of body and tension. Great acidity and a fine finish. Really outperformed and clearly WOTF.

Flight 4 - Lafon with a Party Crasher (4 notes)

White
2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
99 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Unbelievable. Everything is here and dialed up to 11. So much power and depth, but lifted and airy with a sublime finish. Simply as good as it gets.
White
2015 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
98 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Much more richness and roundness than the 14/17, but with the same depth and precision and acid core. Different strokes, most preferred the other two, but I thought this one was still brilliant.
White
2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
99 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Really special, the combination of power and depth with slightly more lemon notes. All 3 vintages were special and had the same thread running through them. Simply superb.
White
2019 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
96 points
Double decanted for 1.5 hours. A bit more textured than the Lafons, but really good. Surprisingly held its own, and a great drink any day, but clearly not quite in the same class.

Flight 5 - Amoose Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
1998 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Really good. So smooth and open right now. A bit lighter than the others in this flight.
Red
1999 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
A bit tight and unyielding right now. Didn't have the full display of beauty that you want.
Red
2000 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Nose just bursts from the glass. Silky and elegant. So ethereal and layered. Amazing class on another level from the Freddies.
Red
2001 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Quite nice and elegant. Such a wonderful vintage right now, it was really in the zone.

Flight 6 - Amoose Flight 2 (4 notes)

Red
2006 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Not bad, but just not really there. Almost came across as watery after the last flight.
Red
2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Wide open and really enjoyable. This vintage is ready to drink and lots of fun.
Red
2008 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
This is good and has some nice elegant notes, but is a notch below the 08 Freddy.
Red
2008 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Lots of structure and a very solid wine. Not showing quite as open as the 07 right now, but very good.

Flight 7 - Amoose Flight 3 (4 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Lots of power and depth with this vintage. A much bigger wine with lots of fruit.
Red
2010 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Really good. Drinking so nicely right now with lots of fruit, but very balanced and elegant.
Red
2010 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Power and depth combined with elegance. Definitely the best showing of the night for Bertheau.
Red
2010 Marchand & Tawse / Pascal Marchand Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Blind. So big and muscular with power to spare. Very different from the Amooses.

Flight 8 - Amoose Flight 4 (4 notes)

Red
2012 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Good, but not great. Drouhin was clearly 4/4 on the producers today.
Red
2014 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Really young and a bit tight. I don't mind drinking young wines, but this wasn't giving much tonight.
Red
2014 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Young, but showing lots of promise. All the pieces are there and should come together with a few more years.
Red
2020 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Super dark purple, almost black. Extremely deep and lush, almost jammy. It's hard to know where this one is going, as it needs at least a few years to shed the baby fat and give a clearer picture.

Flight 9 - Dessert (2 notes)

White - Off-dry
1976 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
A bit over and tired. An intellectual drink, but not particularly pleasing to the palate.
White - Off-dry
2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
97 points
Amazing as always. This is one of my favorite Rieslings of all time and showed perfectly tonight. So many layers with apricots and tropical fruits. Perfectly in balance with the acidity and the sweetness.

Flight 10 - After Dinner (1 note)

Red
2013 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Softer than the 14, but still so young.
