Introduction

Back to DeGrezia, NYC (50th Street between 2nd and 3rd) with my wife and another couple. Began with penne Vodka appetizer and then the bronzini special for an entree.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Drank a 85 Lafite then the 90 Pichon Baron, and then 2003 Monbousquet Blanc with the fish. All the wine came from my cellar.
We decanted both bottles and began drinking Lafite while the Pichon Baron was brooding and preparing to dazzle. We decanted and drank the 85 Lafite, this elegant tasting wine, leisurely. We opened the Pichon Baron and switched between the two while talking and nibbling at house antipasto.

The medium bodied red fruit tasting 85 Lafite become more complex in the glass with the developing flavors of wood, cassis, and mineral balancing nicely for a delightful but not spectacular wine. Not long in the tooth but not to be kept in the cellar too long, this Lafite is finishing smoothly and softly with balanced tannins. This first growth is perfect to initiate the inexperienced palate, but too costly at today's prices. Lovely warm up to my favorite value premium wine-the 90 Pichon Baron.

The 90 Pichon Baron is a lurking black purple prize, roasted and ripe, a full bodied voluptuous evening to remember. The intoxicating bouquet of cedar, licorice, cassis, blackberry, coffee, and spice makes this enticing treat a morning, noon, and night (all day long) wine. Wonderful concentration with low acidity, the delicious fruit and sweet tannin of this perfectly structured wine, are impressed on my memory permanently. On the palate, there is gorgeous texture and mouthful to savor. Love this wine and love sharing it with friends to whom you want to expose the glory of and the reason for fine wine.
