Flight 1 - Bubbly Opener (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
1988 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
Cork didn't hold up and there was no pop or fizz left. Very developed, naturally, but still good acid and a decent still wine.
White - Sparkling
1988 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection France, Champagne
Disgorged 2017. Perfect color. So much complexity and development with the nutty, oxidative notes. This is everything you want in a Krug.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut (2017) Les Pierrières France, Champagne
Bright and fresh, with a very clean finish. Not a ton of complexity at this point, but very enjoyable.

Flight 2 - Whites (4 notes)

White
2009 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Classic Coche and wide open. Didn't quite have the depth of the GCs next to it in this flight, but held its own for a village. Would drink this any night.
White
2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Not nearly as fatty as some anticipated given the vintage and Ramonet's style, but did have a roundness from the warmth of the vintage. Needed air to develop, but multi-layered and textural.
White
2012 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
flawed
Hopelessly poxxed.
White
2014 Blain-Gagnard Le Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Good weight and depth. This producer did very well in this nearly perfect vintage. Very enjoyable and grew on me with air, but never quite showed the layer of excitement that I want to see in a top Monty.

Flight 3 - 1er Cru Reds (3 notes)

Red
2002 Nicolas Potel Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Gaudichots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Perfectly mature dark fruits. Has eerie similarities to the 02 LT, but like a little brother - not the same level of depth. Really enjoyable, however.
Red
2015 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Very closed right now. Has all the stuffing and the purity of fruit you get with this producer, but just not showing the sultry and beguiling nature of a more developed Cathiard.

Red
2013 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Wide open and beautiful. Red fruit, very precise and elegant with a great intensity of flavor and spice. My first experience with CLB.

Flight 4 - Arlot (2 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine de L'Arlot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Very pretty and open, but a deep, dark fruit profile from the vintage. Showing a bit, but still needs considerable time to develop.
Red
2014 Domaine de L'Arlot Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Completely closed down. Even a couple of hours and it was tough as a brick of black fruit. I almost want to say it shut down harder with air except I'm not sure if that would have been possible.

Flight 5 - Meo Horizontal (4 notes)

Red
2016 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Most open of the flight, but not as much complexity or interest.
Red
2016 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Dark and brooding, this didn't show much and was 4/4 in the flight.
Red
2016 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Prettiest wine in the flight and most enjoyable right now. Also had a nice depth of flavor and intensity that made you come back for more. Wonderful wine.
Red
2016 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Closed at first, but did start to open up and reveal the classic muscular nature of the vineyard. Very young, but enjoyable if you like more of the iron fist than the velvet glove.
