Introduction

A few got together for some wines and dinner on Monday night no corkage. There was a 99 kistler vine hill that I though was fair but a tad tired. I didn't take notes while I was there so these were from memory. Food was out of this world and the wines were great. Company even beter.

Flight 1 - Burgundy Flight (2 notes)

Served with the squab and the Duck. Both these wines were very sexy!!!

1995 Dominique Laurent Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Wine possessed a very earthy and resiny nose that screams sophistication and old world elegance. The wine was smooth and soft in the mouth with an excellent feel, purity, and balance. The finish was long and delicious. I am going to buy some of this as this is a excellent bottle of burgundy.

1999 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Drinking much bigger and younger than the Laurent in the same flight. This wine was every bit as complex and compelling. This wine was not light on its feet an attacks your palate. It will improve with age as it balances itself out. Another great wine.

Flight 2 - Served with the venison and rib-eye (2 notes)

Bravo!!!

Red
1982 Château Certan de May France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
95 points
Very complex, great feel, long finsih. Much better than I expected.
Red
1990 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Wine of night. Barnyard at first but than most blew off. Dark in color and big and mouth coating. Very complex but what really hits you on this wine is that despite its size, the tannins are well resolved and it is incredibly smooth and elegant leaving a wine that is just layer upon layer of tasty goodness. I can understand the 100 point scores on this wine and it remains a relative value.

Flight 3 - Served witht he lamb (2 notes)

Red
2005 Domaine de la Butte Bourgueil Mi-pente France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Bourgueil
91 points
This wine is closing down and is going in a dumb phase right now. The palate was much more singular, less expressive and much more tannic. Still a great wine but not showing as well as it once was. It will however age very well and should improve.
Red
1990 E. Guigal Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
tasty with still some life in it. May not hold on much longer but for simple wine it still has some charm left.

Closing

The montrose and he certan showed very well. The burg flight was an eye opener.
