Introduction

Online Tasting with Hendrik Thoma "live" from Lanzarote with Marta Labanda and Juan Daniel Ramirez.

Flight 1 - 3 wines from Titerok-Akalet (3 notes)

The Canary Islands have become an Eldorado for young visionaries and entrepreneurs, even if the natural conditions are at the limit. To make matters worse, the old social structures brought about by a remote island archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic. Especially if you are a stranger and come from the mainland. Then there are the millions of tourists for whom a holiday wine is completely sufficient. What the oenologist couple Marta Labanda and Juan Daniel Ramirez have been doing in laborious detailed work of remote small parcels since 2014 is far away from the stereotypes that can be found here in the glass. Due to their training and foresight, Marta and Juan had something else in mind from the beginning than serving the average. Their mission is to capture the DNA of the volcanic soils and the partly ancient root-real vines (up to 200 years old!), which thrive in the rugged wind-whipped climate of Lanzarote in such a way that they are remembered for a long time. For them, the heterogeneity of the old vineyards and cultivation techniques takes precedence, also their biological management and the renunciation of artificial pesticides. The premise for pressing authentic island wines.

Very pale coper, rose gold color coming from a few days of skin contact.

The bouquet had pears and red apples, with time some rhubarb come along and a touch lemon. Definitely phenolic with a nice sea breeze at the end.
Interesting wine, but a little rough around the edges. Hard to tell, how this will age, but I would guess it has a few years of positive development ahead.

Wow, really exciting discovery here from Lanzarote.
The bouquet has a lot of white peach, saltiness, exotic herbs and pomelo. On the palate its structured but with a nice creamy mouthfeel, coming from the aging on the lees and some batonnage.
This is a serious wine from those young winemaking couple, made from the autochthon varietal malvasia volcanico.
Red
2022 Titerok-Akaet Lanzarote YE-YÉ Spain, Canary Islands, Lanzarote

Fresh and funky rose/red.
Bouquet has some forest strawberries, some cherries, slight pimientos de padrón and a cloud of smoke with time and flintstone.
Definitly better chilled. I guess not meant for aging, I would enjoy it over the first 2-4 years.

Great evening, as always.
