Introduction

This was the regular meeting of the Women Who Wine group that consists of the gals and wives of the larger wine group. This event was a bit smaller and the chief authorized the invitation to the testosterone side of the couples. While Arm Candy may be a reach, I'm going with it. We had a group of 11 for a wonderfully fun and engaging evening of great food and wine (BL/ML. JSG/SG, CG/JG, VB/KB, KI/LI, JB. But of course it was driven by the women. You ROCK ladies!

Flight 1 (13 notes)

White - Sparkling
2008 R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Saint-Vincent France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Had this last about 10 month ago. This was fairly similar to that bottle. Showing some maturity, good weight and some broadness. The fruit seem a bit more golden with apple mainly and some citrus notes, ginger, brioche, nougat, and chalk minerality with the same oxidative character as before. Very good, no danger here. 92+pts.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Ca' del Bosco Cuvée Prestige 45ª Edizione Extra Brut Italy, Lombardia, Franciacorta DOCG
90 points
Pale straw color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. There's a little fresh air character on the nose that really like, very bright showing apple, floral notes and a pleasant yeastiness with some nice mineral accents. This is a bit lighter in style, so I don't think you'd mistake it for Champagne, but it is well defined and a nice aperitif.
White
2010 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
92 points
Light medium gold color. PNP, drank a glass over 45 minutes. These are always fun and this certainly was too. Golden ripe fruits, ripe lemon, apple, dried apricot, lemon zest, lemon wax, creamy texture, vanilla; this fairly dense and full bodied with good length. The oxidative quality comes through, but is really checked by the freshness and fruit.

White
2016 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
93 points
Light-medium to medium gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. There is a brightness here that is immediately inviting, with loads of ripe stone fruit, a savory element, apricot and stones with a round full body. Always a vibrant and enjoyable twist.
White
2019 Vietti Roero Arneis Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
90 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. This was lean, ctirusy, stone, light-medium bodied. I had this 3 years ago, and I'd say I preferred it a little more back then, but this is certainly hanging in there. I would not push it much further.
White
2016 Bodegas La Cana Albariño Navia Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
92 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Had this last 3 years ago also. This is still really bright and offers a crisp oceanic profile somewhat reminiscent of Chablis. Citrus, pear, medium plus weight, lots of ocean earth and minerality along with good acidity. The oak is fully melded now and offers some depth with less the roundness. This is still in very good shape. This was my last, but I would not fear another year or two of aging. 92+ to 93pts.
Red
2012 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
flawed
Corked, though somewhat less overt.
Red
2019 Clos Mogador Priorat Gratallops Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
Very dark red/purple color. PNP, followed a glass over an hour. Obviously very young, this is filled with dark fruits, blackberry liqueur, charcoal, tar, gravelly minerality, concentrated, powerful and very long with firm tannins. There's a lot going on here, but it gonna be better in another 3-5 years. Gut feeling is 93pts.
Red
2010 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
92 points
Dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Black cherry, tar, glycerin, cassis, crushed herbs, earth, firm tannins. Wasn't thinking about this too hard, gut feeling 92(+)pts.
Red
2001 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
91 points
Dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Baked cherry, a bit stewy, sappy, dried herbs.
