Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
1985 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
88 points
yeasty..but seems a bit muted on tste/smell. Nice but not stunning champagne... was this off?
White - Off-dry
1998 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Kaseler Nies'chen Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
88 points
weaker than last time... nice floral nose but he red berries were missing. just getting into the petrol stage.. short finish..
White - Off-dry
1999 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
WOW ... lots of power and fruit...red currants and great floral nose. this is too young and will be just a lovely riesling..!

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
1995 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
Very upset.. this was the "dud" tonight... seems oxydised...color too advanced and overall just some flowers and weak sherryied taste.. :( too bad... bottles from the same place/lot were all good.. oh well.
White
1995 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl France, Alsace
94 points
lots and lots of flowers, a pricle of heat disapated wuickly, powerfull muscular wine with an amazing minerality and complexity. And a loooong finish. a star...

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1996 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
my love for Cali Pinot has yet to appear :) i like them but find them not to be my "thing"
these 2 changed it a bit...
this wine has a LOT of power...surprised - since its almoust 10 years old. Sweet nose, ripe jammy cherry? nice touch of
pepper and spices. nice finish..but the middle was a bit empty... nice wine but i am not sure i'd buy it.
Red
1995 Kistler Pinot Noir Cuvée Catherine USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
OMG..what the hell is this? this is a Syrah! a Rhone but never a pinot! this is very very young - at 10! and very powerfull. pitch black in the glass. cassis, pepper and serious tannin... my my... strange exp... :) not a bad one just strange

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
1990 Château Pape Clément France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
95 points
tonight this wine rocked! true older bordeaux, tobacco, slight herbs but not in a bad way, nice fruit - black berries dominating, medium body and looong finish. Victor you have a winner !
Red
1998 Château La Conseillante France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
90 points
tough matchup for this baby...its still very young a a touch too sweet on the fruit. what bothered me was the lack of a solid middle. nice wine though.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
1995 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
93 points
YUM! mature and ready to go. this wine is a perfect expression of the style (in my limited knowledge). Great tart cherry profile, clean fruit and lean medium body that goes down smooth. tannins present but not harsh. just delicious!
Red
1997 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
91 points
unlike the 95, this was tight and closed. this will probably be even better than the 95 but hard to say now. Lots of good tannins and cherry fruit.

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
1998 Luce della Vite Lucé Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
90 points
interesting wine - but not my style...cinnamon and strawberries... fun! :) missig something but cant figure out what
Red
2003 Pax Syrah Castelli-Knight Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
this is a guess...greg please correct me if i have the wrong one.

sweet and very rich. But not over the top. this has great balance and rather serious filling. I am surprised how much i liked this... :) a very well made wine indeed.

Flight 7 (2 notes)

Red
2001 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
96 points
i am upset - i was not in the best shape by this point and barelly had the opportunity to trully taste this.
Minty, rich to the point of no return, but the backbone is there and this has all the right stuff. Fruit in buckets but this should age well and then maybe show more of the complexity thats obviously there...
Red
1996 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
WOW ..again upset that i dont have real notes on these...but i know i LOVED this...rich and delicious... these last 2 wines made me realize the potential of california wines..they do have a niche - and although they are better with cheese or after the meal (too powerfull for food) they are trully world class.
