Red
2004 Guido Porro Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
89 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Beautiful ruby-orange color. Smells of beef stew and warm spices. Fine tannins. Acidic up front, and changed across the palate from tart to tomato to ground beef. Not particularly long at around 20 secs.
Red
2004 Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigneto Arborina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Warm and fruity on the nose, with smells of mince meat pie, cinnamon, and perfume. Acidic up front, with complex and changing palate. Relatively low tannins, but acid should allow aging. Possibly some tastes of lavender. Nice level of concentration.
Red
2004 Silvio Grasso Barolo Pì Vigne Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. A bit shy on the nose, although nice bready aromas. Slightly darker color than some barolos. Some acid up front, but not very high. Medium tannins. Length of about 20 seconds. Not particularly complex or nuanced. Some black licorice flavors on the back end.
Red
2004 Poderi Colla Barolo Dardi Le Rose Bussia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Beautiful ruby-orange color. Smells of strawberry, rhubarb, cherry and flowers. Still very tight with strong tannins. Carmel flavors on the back end. Mildly woody, like a light Rioja. Length of about 25 seconds. Should get better with age--needs time.
Red
2004 Fratelli Brovia Barolo Villero Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Light color but no orange cast. Cherry and perfume on the nose. Strong tannins with floral (lavender?) taste. Heavier mouth feel at first, but acid then cuts through. More concentrated than some in this tasting. Touch of bitter on the back end. Length of 25+ secs. Well balanced all around with great potential, but needs several years more time.
Red
2004 Cascina Bongiovanni Barolo Pernanno Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Warm and aromatic smells with LOTS of oak and vanilla. Spicy and waxy on the palate like an Opus One. Tastes include carrot cake and vanilla. A bit heavy for a barolo in my opinion. Very persistent finish with length of 40+ secs. Strong tannins. Too much oak for me--needs time for the wood to integrate. More muscular than delicate. (My friend rated this a 93+, so it certainly can be appealing depending on your preferences).
Red
2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Light ruby color. Sour cherry on the nose. Very fruity taste compared to some in this tasting. Strawberry and perfume taste with a touch of acid. Developing palate that becomes warmer and goes to carmel. Delicate and finessed with fine tannins. Well balanced. Length of about 30 seconds.

(My friend rated this an 89 and described it as having smells of rotten banana, although I didn't pick that up.)
Red
2004 Conterno Fantino Barolo Vigna del Gris Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Decanted several hours before tasting. Warm spicy scent, with a heavier concentrated smell than some in this tasting. Nicely balanced fruit and oak. Vanilla tastes come through, although I felt it was a bit heavy on the oak side. Lots of acid and heavy tannins. Reminds me of a delicate Rioja. Length of about 30 secs. Should age well.

Best QPR seemed to be the 2004 Giovanni Corino Barolo Arborina.
