White
2008 Domaine de la Quilla Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
86 points
nose: nice nose of sweet citrus tones, lemons, tree fruits, and some bits of minerals. The tones are nice, but more surface tones with a simplicity to them

taste: good medium+ acidity gives this a refreshing spine with nice tones of sweet citrus', minerals, and lemons. The tones are pretty easy going and don't provide much depth

overall: a nice summer time muscadet. This should also work well with food as it is asking for some food to help it
White
2008 Domaine de la Moutonniere Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine
88 points
nose: nice and crisp nose of tart citrus tones, lemon zest, limes, and mineral tones. Good balance with good aromatics

taste: refreshing medium feel with good high acidity and fresh tones of tart citrus', lemon zest, limes and mineral tones. Excellent depth and the acidity isn't obtrusive either

overall: a very nice wine. Perfect for food and summer drinking, this has a real nice crispness to it that is very enjoyable

White
2007 Domaine Claude Branger Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Le Fils des Gras Moutons France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine
86 points
nose: nice nose of sweet citrus tones, minerals, and white fruits. Tones are generally surface tones with an easy going nature to this that is rather crisp

taste: good light feel with lower acidity and good tones of citrus', minerals, and bits of white fruits. Well balanced, but with surface tones

overall: a good sipping wine with good balance. Perfect for food and is perfect for warmer weather or for a party. Not very complex, but its not trying to be

Flight 2 - Touraine and Other appellations (6 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine des Corbillières Touraine France, Loire Valley, Touraine
87 points
nose: nice hi-toned nose of red cherries, cranberries, sour berries, herbs, and red fruits. Good complexity, but lacking depth as it comes off as more surface tones right now

taste: excellent medium feel with nice tones of red cherries, cranberries, red fruits and a touch of herbs. An easier feel with good tones, but again is lacking a bit of depth that would really make the wine

overall: a really good Cab Franc. Well balanced with good tones, but it just lacks a bit of depth that would really add to the wine. At the price, this is a quality buy and would work great with a lot of food
Red
2006 Domaine Sauvète Touraine Antea France, Loire Valley, Touraine
89 points
nose: rather robust nose filled with red cherries, earthen tones, red fruits, dark fruits, and a good bit of cedar. Well balanced with good depth to it

taste: full bodied with rich tannins that make themselves know along with robust tones of red cherries, earth, dark fruits and some bits of black currants

overall: Well balanced and interesting to see a malbec come from the loire. Sort of a cross between a cahors and a argentinian malbec, this has a real robust and masculine quality to it that would make it great with steak and is very drinkable on its own
White
2007 Domaine Sauvète Touraine Oneiros France, Loire Valley, Touraine
88 points
nose: real tasty nose of minerals, wet stones, citrus', and a good amount of melons. Nice depth and has a real breezy sense to it

taste: good medium+ acidity gives this a nice spine but is also refreshing at the same time. Well balanced with good tones of minerals, wet stones, and citrus tones

overall: a real nice wine. Good depth and definition, this is perfect for a lot of foods and for sipping
White
2007 Philippe Portier Quincy France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Quincy
90 points
nose: light and very aromatic nose filled with well balanced tones of white fruits, bits of peach blossoms, minerals, citrus', and nice undertones of limes. Very good depth that makes this nice and expressive

taste: a real silky and light feel with good medium acidity along with fresh tones of white fruits, minerals, citrus', and bits of limes. Excellent mid-palate on this but the finish is slightly clipped

overall: an outstanding sancerre. I really enjoy the balance on this along with the great breezy and laid back tones on both the nose and palate
White
2008 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny Blanc France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Cheverny
88 points
nose: really good and fresh tones of citrus', lemons, melons, bits of guava and passion fruit. Really nice complexity and the tropical tones really add to it

taste: excellent lighter feel with good medium acidity and tones of lemons, melons, passion fruit and some bits of fresh picked citrus tones. A bit hollow on the mid-palate detracts a bit on the wine

overall: a really nice wine. Light and tropical, this is a real good one for the summer. It'd be nice if the mid-palate was fleshed out a bit more, but overall this works very well and is a real nice wine
White
2006 Le Rocher des Violettes Montlouis-sur-Loire Cuvée la Negrette France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
88 points
nose: excellent nose filled with good tones of citrus', grass, lemons, and a good bit of navel oranges. Good depth with a nice sweeter tinge to the tones

taste: real good medium feel with citrus', white peaches, meyer lemons, navel oranges and some bits of granny smith apples. Good medium+ acidity gives this a good spine

overall: a really good chenin blanc. Seems like it needs to add some depth to really have it be expressive. Could use a bit of aging, but has a real good sweeter style to it without being overtly sweet

Flight 3 - Pouilly Fume (3 notes)

White
2007 Domaine Herve Seguin Pouilly-Fumé France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé

taste: very nice refreshing medium/high acidity and a good light feel with good tones of melons, lemons, crisp citrus tones and some bits of minerals underneath

overall: a perfect summer wine. Nice and refreshing with a lighter style to it. This should work well with a lot of fish dishes and as a quaffer

taste: excellent medium+ acidity that takes on more of a refreshing role with a great lighter feel with tones of citrus', tree fruits, minerals, and bits of limes

overall: a real pretty wine. Light and well balanced, the feel really makes the wine for me. the acidity is really good and allows this to compliment a lot of food as well as being a great wine to have on its own

91 points
nose: lovely and balanced nose of earth tones, berries, red florals, spices, and small bits of red cherries. Good depth and has a good restrained quality to it

taste: attractive and elegant lighter feel with earthen tones, bits of earth spices, berries, and red florals. Good medium+ acidity backs this up and gives it a nice backbone

overall: has a nice beaunish quality to it. Attractive and light on its feet with a real good berry attack on the mid palate. Very nice finish, this is well worth checking out and very enjoyable

taste: Good and tasty medium feel with excellent tones of apples, pears, tree fruits and bits of white peach tones. Good depth with medium acidity

overall: this may need a small bit of time to round into form, but this is a real delicious vouvray already. Has some sweetness to it, but not cloying by any means.
White - Off-dry
2007 Régis Cruchet Vouvray Demi-Sec France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
90 points
nose: excellent depth with a real good tartness to the nose. Well balanced tones of citrus', white fruits, minerals, peaches, pears and some tropical citrus tones blend together

taste: Good layered medium feel with medium+ acidity and is fairly tart right now. Sweeter tones of white fruits, minerals, pears, and peaches balance well together with good depth

overall: Comes off as very youthful. It is slightly cloying right now, but not too much. Has a really good feel right now and really good balance, and should add on some weight with more time

Flight 6 - Saumur (5 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
88 points
nose: nice and aromatic nose of red fruits, red cherries, and currants. Good depth with nice balance that is very attractive

taste: chewy tannins with a medium/full feel and balanced tones of red fruits, red cherries, herbs and currants

overall: A very nice wine. Well balanced and young, this should be rather nice with a few more years on it. Has good aromatics right now, but the tannins take over too much on the palate at this moment
White
2007 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
88 points
nose: intriguing nose of honeydew melons, beeswax, various nutty tones, and some bits of honeycomb. One of the more interesting noses that I smelled all day and has good depth to it to boot

taste: excellent medium feel with medium acidity and intriguing tones of hazelnuts, honeydew melons, honeycomb, and various nutty tones. Has a real good balance to it and is rather lively

overall: This was easily one of the more intriguing and interesting wines that I tasted on the day. A lot of complexity on the nose, but didn't have that real good layering that would bring it to another level.
White
2004 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc Les Clos France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
90 points
nose: delicious nose of white fruits, melons, honeycomb, and tart lemon tones. Very good depth and was a bit on the tight side as well

taste: Succulent tones of white fruits, melons, apples, tart lemons, bits of tropical citrus'. Good depth with a real nice and tasty medium feel with good medium+ acidity

overall: this can use some more time to come together. Should add some layering with a bit more age, and this could be a real great wine if that happens.
Red
2004 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Les Arboises Brézé France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
91 points
nose: pungent nose of red cherries, dill, herbs, red currants, and bits of red florals. Very pretty nose

taste: Medium/full feel with coarse tannins and medium/high acidity along with balanced tones of red fruits, red cherries, herbs, red currants, and some bits of dill

Red
2004 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge Les Motelles France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
90 points
nose: lovely and perfumed nose of red florals, violets, red berries, and herbs. Very good depth and fairly expressive at this stage, but still seeming to hold back a slight bit

taste: chewy tannins and a medium/full feel and medium acidity along with well balanced tones of red cherries, roasted herbs, red berries, violets, dill and bits of red florals. Excellent depth, but the tannins take over the back end a bit

overall: needs a couple more years, but it should turn out real nicely. Well balanced with excellent aromatics that just need some more layering to really show itself

Flight 7 - Chinon (7 notes)

Red
2007 Béatrice et Pascal Lambert Chinon Les Terrasses France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
84 points
nose: nice and fruity nose of red fruits, red currants, and red cherries with a touch of herbs. A bit simple and lacking depth

taste: solid medium feel with nice tones of red fruits, red cherries, herbs, and a touch of florals. Well balanced, but the tones seem more surface then having real depth

overall: a decent wine. Solid and somewhat simple on the depth. This would probably be a good food wine, but not much more
Red
2003 Béatrice et Pascal Lambert Chinon Cuvée Danaé France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
90 points
nose: lovely nose of red fruits, red cherries, berries, wild flowers, and garden herbs. There is a chambolle-like quality to it on the nose and has a higher toned sense to it

taste: great tannins still support this wine with a real good medium feel and balanced tones of tobacco, cedar, red fruits, wild flowers, and garden herbs. Great feel and still coming off as young with the tannins while the fruit can support further aging as well

overall: this was a real nice chinon. Pretty with a higher toned quality that comes off almost burgundian in some ways. A bit understated, but has a ripeness that 03 can bring
Red
2005 Béatrice et Pascal Lambert Chinon Cuvée Marie France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
90 points
nose: beautiful and pretty tones of herbs, dark red cherries, dill, dark florals and root vegetables. Great depth with a real pretty side to it

taste: very tannic with a robust medium/full feel and tones of currants, dark florals, herbs, dark red cherries and dill tones. Good depth, but the tannins are almost overpowering right now

overall: This is in need of time, but this could turn into a real beauty. Well balanced with good aromatics already, the tannins just need to pull back a bit before the wine fully shows itself off
Red
2002 Béatrice et Pascal Lambert Chinon Cuvée Marie France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
92 points
nose: lovely and elegant nose with good depth and layered tones of red cherries, tobacco, all sorts of floral tones, cedar, red fruits, and all sorts of herbs. Rather perfumed right now and is really showing itself well

taste: Polished and pretty medium feel with medium acidity and elegant tones of cedar, red cherries, various floral tones, red fruits and bits of roasted herbs. Good tannins support this still and help give it some backbone

overall: This is in a perfect place. There are still very good tannins supporting this, but its very lovely right now. Elegant and demure this is a great chinon that is right where it needs to be
Red
2005 Couly-Dutheil Chinon Clos de l'Echo France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
88 points
nose: lovely nose with tones of dark red cherries, red fruits, red berries, red florals and a touch of violets. Well balanced and pretty right now, but lacking some depth

taste: Excellent medium feel with smooth and balanced tones of dark red cherries, herbs, red fruits, red florals and some fresh red berries. Good depth with good tannins that are nice and supporting

overall: a very good Chinon. Well balanced with good aromatics, this is quite nice and would be a great food chinon
Red
2007 Couly-Dutheil Chinon La Baronnie Madeleine France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
84 points
nose: feminine and very delicate nose of hi-toned red fruits, some black pepper tones, red florals, and red cherries. This is lacking depth and comes off like a porcelain doll a bit

taste: lighter feel that is nice and elegant with well balanced tones of red currants, red florals, red fruits, and some cherry tones. A bit lacking in depth and on the mid-palate as well

overall: A nice Chinon, but rather non-descript and boring. If it had some depth it would possibly be great, but it doesn't and is rather lacking
White
2007 Couly-Dutheil Chinon Les Chanteaux France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
89 points
nose: fairly grassy nose with good amounts of citrus tones, minerals, and some bits of ripe apples and white florals. Good depth with a real nice crispness to the nose

overall: an excellent Chenin blanc. Has a real nice crispness and balance to it that is very refreshing and fun. Very aromatic with a real nice tartness to it without being sweet
