To me the only problem of this wine is to be the younger brother of you know who... this wine keeps one impressing me, year after year, vintage after vintage.
This wine is a beast, a perfect tinder date for a grilled meat. Just opened another one to enjoy the remaining of the evening and some dark chocolate...
Powerful but suave in the mouth. Loving it.

Very positively surprised with the ageing of this eur 10 bottle... CARM Reserva has been one of my favourite Portuguese wines for many years and am not deceived by this bottle! Intense, dark cherry notes on the palate. Not such a long finish but then again, we’re talking about a very reasonable entry market wine. Perfect on the first day of the summer with a nice fish on the grill. I’ll keep my other bottles for another year or two max.

Notes of raspberry, cherry tomatoes, tobacco, and vanilla.
Probably a little passed it’s peak but still perfect with the weekly pasta with tomato sauce in front of a chamion’s league football game...:)

I definitely have to review last year's note. I had given this wine only 92 points and was a little disappointed but god last night's bottles were awesome. We opened 2 bottles of 2008 and one of 2010.
The 2008 is spectacular at this point. The wine is rich and voluptuous, with an incredible velvety, long and persistent finish.
Note: went perfectly well with grilled meat on the barbecue and I must admit i cooled the wine quite a bit before drinking it.

Wine merchant praised this Loire valley red but too much on the fruit for me, lacking complexity. I understand however that some will love it.

Didn't give it much time after opening but very nice from start onwards.
Nose of red berries, cherries and wild strawberries. Still a bit earthy but probably a very nice evolution ahead.

Manage your expectations. I was expecting a lot from this wine but was somehow a bit disappointed. Full bodied, high tannin and relatively high alcohol level. Much better after a couple of hours in a wide open decanter.
Second bottle was flawed.
Let's see how it evolves over the years.

Tasting notes from private tasting with the producer on 08.04.2019 in presence of Mr. Novelle. Several wines tasted, 4 rated.
http://novelle.wine

The Producer:
Jean-Michel Novelle is an atypical producer from Switzerland. He spent most of the last 20 years consulting worldwide (mostly in Chile) before returning home to manage the family estate in Satigny, Geneva. The total area is quite small (7ha) but with 16 different varietals produces for 24 different wines. Aside from the classical grapes you can find in the region, Jean-Michel Novelle has also focused on growing some grapes that no one else in the region (and even in the country) produces. The “Empreinte” collection (pretty much sold out) are blended wines and the “Iconique” are single blends.
Finally, Novelle was a pioneer in introducing oak casks in Geneva and is now pioneering the removal of them. He however chose his best casks to create two completely new wines, Point Final I and Point Final II, two LBV blended wines with outstanding maturity potential.

The notes:
Iconique Muscat 2016: 91pts.
First nose took a while to appear but end result is very pleasing. Fresh floral (green herbs) notes for a very pale, almost greenish hue. This unusual dry muscat (no residual sugar) has a nice level of acidity and a long, citric, finish. It will be the perfect companion for asparagus and artichokes (which are difficult to blend with).

Empreinte Solera 2014: 93pts
Blend of Petite Arvine, Petit Manseng and Sauvignon blanc from vintages of 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011, bottled in 2014.
Novelle managed to create a very interesting and “light” desert wine with only 11.5% alcohol with a fine balance of sugar and acidity. Result is impressive. Intense golden straw hue. Fresh and complex nose of citrus, mango, litchi, honey. Nice acidity on the palate, long persistant finish. Will go as well with a grilled pineapple as with a truffle risotto.

Point Final I: 95pts
Blend of 2008 and 2009 vintages. Pinot Noir and a touch of Syrah. Wine has spent 6 years in old oak barrels before being bottled (hence LBV appellation, similar to Port wines). Something never done before in this country. The result is a very concentrated wine, dark ruby. Complex nose of cherry and almond, and a long, endless persistent finish. Amazing now and can probably age another decade. Will probably benefit from decanting.
400 bottles will be sold each year for the next 12 years.

Point Final II: 96pts.
Blend of 2008 and 2009 vintages. Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Syrah. Wine has spent 6 years in old oak barrels before being bottled (hence LBV appellation, similar to Port wines). Something never done before in this country. Similarly to Point Final I, the wine is awesome directly after opening but will also benefit from decanting. Dark coloured, intense Bordeaux-style nose of blackcurrant, blackberries, wild strawberries. Palate is intense, velvety with touches of cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate. An even longer finish than Point Final I . Outstanding.
400 bottles will be sold each year for the next 12 years.

Voluptuous dry wine from the Valais region. Classic citric aromas as usual for Petite Arvines but topped with a fleshy and harmounious toasty finish.
Never disappointed with the great Réserve wines from JR Germanier. This wine is aging beautifully and I will stack up a few more cases for the years to come. What a fantastic achievement again by Gilles Besse. Will probably age beautifully.

With all due respect Mr Parker, I can't always agree with you.
I thought this was of outstanding value considering the very affordable price tag and Parker's 95 points. Ok 2011 is not an easy vintage but still... fiurst bottle was well flawed and second was good, matching it's price tag, but not great.
nose of red and black berries. Ample on the palate.

Time to drink it.
There's an outstanding evolution from the first bottles I had a few years ago to today.
Drunk young, this wine is very much on the citrus and peach notes and lovely acidity.
letting it almost a decade in the cellar, the wine has evolved and is now darker and more suave.
I love mixing this wine with a plate of oysters

Great effort. Purchased a few in order to keep me patient before opening the CNDP Réserve and I must say that this "entry level" wine is much better than many CNDP who are at 2 to 3 times its price. Although young and still a bit on the fruit, the wine shows already great equilibrium and finesse. No doubt it will age well over the next few years. What a superb effort.

Finally managed to get my hands on a very few bottles of this great wine.
Aside from working on the vast estates of Jaboulet in Rhône and La Lagune in Bordeaux (not to forget Cotton C. in Burgundy), Caroline Frey has recently bought a tiny postage stamp in an inaccessible area of Valais to produce her very own wine, all done by her hands from A to Z.
Caroline gave me a tip of where to find a few bottles (only 500 made), and more importantly how to drink it.
Since the wine is unfiltered, I kept (on her advice) the bottle standing 24hours before drinking it. At opening, the wine was at typical white wine temperature and you could definitely feel the chasselas and sylvaner notes taking over (wine is a blend of chasselas, sylvaner and petite arvine). However, letting the wine get slightly more to room temperature (on her advice too!!) made it transform itself and petite Arvine was more and more present, in perfect balance. The wine matched perfectly well with my Sunday brunch cheese platter, what a feast.
This wine will surely surprise many especialists especially when blind tasted. Great job.

Assemblage of Petite Arvine and Ermitage (Marsanne), this Vendange Tardive wine was succulent and much appreciated with an apple tart. The colour is not as gold-ish as one could anticipate and quite light. Delicate perfumes of honey, gingerbread, lime and citrus flowers. Could not wait to open it although I could probably have kept it for decades.
An outstanding sweet wine.

Cayas no longer needs any introductions. This outstanding Syrah, which was ranked among the world’s top Syrah a few years ago, continues being outstanding under the management of Gilles Besse and the vintages are always among Switzerland’s top reds.
The wine is clearly in its early years and some 4 hours of decanting were a good idea. As one could expect the colour is very dark and intense. On the nose, spices, leather and toast. In the mouth, elegance, balance and freshness.
A great effort in a difficult vintage.

Pale yellow coloured Petite Arvine (local grape from Valais).
at 13 degrees, it goes perfectly well for predinner drinks as well as for dinner with fish.
The wine is fresh and voluptuous, white flowers and spices on the nose and exotic fruits on the palate.
Petite Arvine is one of the star white grapes of Valais and bottles can sometimes reach ridiculous prices, not the case for the Germanier production. At 24.- a bottle (roughly 24 usd, eur 20), the price is quite decent (take into consideration the labour costs in switzerland) for this quality of wine.
The cellars of JR Germanier, managed by the great Gilles Besse, produce amazing wines, among which the superb Cayas (gorgeous Syrah) and have recently come under the focus of Parker.

Drank last night at a private event.
i was a bit sceptical at first about serving such a young vintage but was very positively surprised. The wine doesn't show the flaws of youth and runs smoothly on the palate. It is voluptuous without being too exhuberant and is already a great companion to the paella, cochonillo, pulpo a la gallega and Rubia de Galicia that I had for dinner (felt hungry i must say... ).
i would definitely add quite a few cases to my cellar if the price tag was a tad lower and would be interested to compare it with the other Vega Sicila family wines.

I discovered this wine while dining at the excellent Domaine de Chateauvieux (Geneva's finest restaurant, Michelin **). While the owners offer a wine list comprising all the finest wines of the world (at very low multiples compared to other restaurants), the sommelier makes a great effort in promoting swiss wines and more importantly, local Geneva wines. This initiative is very welcome as it allows customers to (re)discover their local producers.
With my "effilochée de langouste" (amazing), the sommelier offered me to try a very new wine from Satigny producer Charles Novelle et Fils. The wine is not even on their website yet and the restaurant is the first one to have it. What an amazing discovery:
The wine is a blend of Petite Arvine (a wine type usually found on the hillsides of the Valais area, quite rare in Geneva) and Petit Manseng (a grape you can find in the Pyrenean, in Latin America and sometimes in the US). Novelle is the only producer in Geneva to use it. The blend is simply great and offers an outstanding gastronomic wine. This white flowered nose wine will fit perfectly with many autumn/winter meals such risottos and salt crusted fish.
A great addition to my cellar. Can't wait to see how it evolves over the years.

I drank my first bottle of the Malbec Argentino a few years ago and the wine was a revelation... Far more subtle than many other (too) muscular and strong argentine wines. I therefore had high expectations when I opened this bottle and, although the wine was good, the result was a little disappointing, especially next to a 2007 Cheval des Andes which was a notch better. The wine seemed to have the problems that i often find with many andean wines. let's see the next one...

Again a gorgeous swiss wine. Tasted blind, this perfectly balanced chardonnay made by the Auberson family could well be confused with a top burgundy, only that it is a fraction of the price.

Currently discovering the broad range of wines from Fechy, Switzerland based Raymond Paccot Domaine de la Colombe.
I have already very much enjoyed the "entry" wine Chasselas, a wine which I had casually discovered at Hotel Bellevue in Gstaad last winter. I've never been a big fan of Chasselas but this one (especially at that price) is a fantastic wine. Definitely worth having in the cellar and far more subtle (to me) than most of the so-called grand crus of the region.
The Pinot Gris 2013, even that young, is on an even higher level and the discovery is turning into a love affair! These wines are great and could / should compete with the best white wines around Switzerland and probably elsewhere. I will surely get many more and stack them up for the years to come.
Great effort!
