This is drinking really well right now and is in a great spot. Didn't need much air time as it was nice right out of the bottle.

6/19/23, 6:32 PM - Agreed. They are one of the most consistent and the quality to price is quite good all things considered for a Sauterne.

Decanted and drank over 2 hours. The decant helped as this continued to open up. Traditional Montelena with currant, oak, and some spice. Tannins nicely integrated. No hurry as these have plenty of time. While they might gain a little more tertiary notes, not sure time will improve this much more, but will wait a few more years before opening another one.

4/22/23, 4:45 PM - Decanted about 2 hours and drank over 90 min to 2 hours. Just didn’t jump out to me. I have and been drinking Montelena estate Cab from 1990 to present

Dark fruits and tobacco. This was a bit disappointing. Despite decanting for 2 hours, this just didn't open up and was clearly holding back. Sommelier at restaurant agreed this was just too young and not ready. Will give the remaining bottles many years before trying again or if the moment hits me try a 6 hour decant...

12/2/22, 4:20 PM - Always hard to read other notes and not try for yourself when you have some bottles, but while still somewhat enjoyable will certainly wait. This came after a 2001 Pichon Lalande that was in a great spot so tough comparison.

This was restrained on the nose upon opening much more than the palate. After an hour, started to really open up and was enjoyable. Still a young wine with plenty of life ahead of it.

Black fruit, graphite, cedar, vanilla, and some very early signs of tertiary notes (mushroom)

8/12/22, 3:59 PM - I have not had a chance to try the 2009. Unfortunately, I just bought a few bottles of the 2010 on a whim a few years ago. If you give this some air, don't think you will be underwhelmed especially if your price point was close to release price.

White
2019 La Jota Chardonnay W.S. Keyes Vineyard Howell Mountain
Napa day trip (VHR, Bevan, Lokoya) (Napa): Loved the nose on this one. Clean, pure, crisp white fruit and soft flowers. The fruit on the nose is so crisp. Flavors of clean, soft and fresh pineapple, clean minerals with a touch of softness. This was so clean and quite refreshing, not heavy at all.

6/10/22, 6:54 PM - We visited Lokoya in Nov '21 and did the '18 chardonnay and my comment was it is very Burgundian in style which I really enjoy. Also did a horizontal with the 2018 cabernets. All were just wonderful.
