Wow what an amazing Pinot. Pours to a ripe red color in glass. Decantered for 30 mins, delicious rich red fruit aromas pop right at you. Flavors of tart cherry, raspberry with a deep complexity of other red fruits are everywhere in this wine. Med tannins from a med style semi fruit forward wine. This is one to buy a case and drink happily. Not sure why the bottle weighs a ton, but as long as the wine is great who cares.

Not the best Stephen Ross bottles but definitely worth the price. After trying to decant this vintage I didn’t like the lack of complexity and flavors. After giving a slight chill and almost no decant the bottle pours much better. Still a wonderful wine.

This was the 2nd bottle of my shipment. Almost identical to last bottle I reviewed. Rich cherry and raspberry flavors with a hint of pepper and spice. Absolutely amazing is all I can say. I wish I bought the hole case.

Wine pours to a rich ruby red color in glass. Tons of aromas of red fruits. Decanted for almost 1 hour. Tastes of red fruit, raspberry and cherry. Still very young and vibrant. This is going to be an amazing wine in a year or two.

Bottle poured to a burnt orange color in glass. Wine was definitely over its peak. Looking back at my last bottle note, this wine wasn’t the pride of Stephen Ross. Decanted for an hour (probably could have popped and poured). Little flavor or complexity that is standard for Ross.

Wine pours to a light straw color in glass. Aromas of apple and pear jump out. Tastes of apple, pear, apricot are easy to find. Has a slight sweetness that I’m not found of, but very drinkable even though. The winery is very nice set on the Finger Lakes with amazing views.

Wine pours to a ruby red color in glass. Nice cherry and red fruit aromas after a 1 hour decant. Cherry and plum flavors are forefront, with spice and earth lingering in the layers beneath. Amazing food pairing wine that has lots of potential. Drinking very good now or can hold for a few. Highly recommend trying this one.

Wine pours to a dark red color in glass. Intense aromas of dark fruit and spice. Tastes of blackberry, blackcurrants, pepper and spice. Some oak peeks through. High alcohol and tannins. Very fruit forward and intense. Decanted for 45 minutes (could have used more time but aroma was too good and got poured). High price, but a very quality wine.

Another amazing bottle from Grgich! These guys know how to make wine. Pours to a golden straw color in glass. Immediate aromas of citrus fruits, apple and apricot. Tastes start with citrus fruits then develop into green apple, honeysuckle and slight oak. Beautiful layered complexity with acidity and fruit. Can’t be beat for the price.

Amazing surprise with this one. Wasn’t expecting much, but after I opened it I was greeted to a wonderful cherry aroma which almost led me to drink right away. Decanted for nearly an hour and it poured to a rich red color in glass. Beautiful red fruit aromas. Tastes of cherry, earth and brightness. Lots of complexity with med tannins. Great value for the price. Will definitely be buying more.

Big and bold is best used to describe. Pours to an inky black color in glass. After a 2 hour decant (may have been a little to long), aromas of blackberry and dark fruit. Tastes of blackberry and cherry and a complex mix of black fruit. High tannins, great flavor. Pair with something hardy and you’ll be in heaven. Very interesting grape.

Super big and bold wine. Pours to a dark inky black in glass. Nice aromas of dark fruit after a 1 hour decant (probably could have left for another hour at least). Tastes of dark fruit, high tannins, high alcohol (was very hot at first). Definitely pair this wine with a hearty meal. Decent price for a very exceptional wine. Drinking well now or hold for several more great years to come.

I purchased this bottle at Caymus after tasting many of their wines. It was as good as gold while I was lounging in the beauty of Napa. Flew it home and put it down to rest. Somewhere something went wrong. With much anticipation, I opened and decantered for nearly an hour. It poured nice but had no distinct aroma. The taste was completely flat and devoid of life. Very upsetting.

Drank this bottle in a blind test. I didn’t like it from the start. Had no distinct flavors or tastes. It tasted like a very cheap wine. Had no idea what this was. Then I was shown the bottle and saw that James Suckling gave this a 94?? Another over exaggerated Suckling bottle. I don’t think I can consider him a reliable source any longer. Then I looked at all the reviews on CT, most people liked this wine. I have a bottle and will try this again another day.

Drank this in a blind test. Couldn’t figure out what this was. Even after a 30 minute decant, it didn’t have any aromas or tastes that I could tell what this was. This wine lacks complexity in every level. I need to say I love Hall wines and think very highly of them. But this did not live up to my standards. Still can’t say what this smells or tastes like, as nothing stands out. Still not a horrible wine, just not what I would expect.

Pours to a dark red color in glass. I didn’t have time to fully decant this bottle and it showed. It was still very tight after 15 minutes in my decanter. Aromas of dark fruit showed through though. Tastes of cherry and other dark fruit along with a slight tinge of oak. Med-heavy tannins, but didn’t have the complexity I enjoy with these Napa Cabs. Probably my fault for not letting it open, but still wasn’t as excited as I should have been with an under $30 Cab.

Another amazing PN from a great winery. Pours to a ruby red color in glass. Aromas of tart cherry and red fruit come alive with a 1 hour decant. Tastes of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pepper and some minerals add to the extreme complexity of this wine. Well balanced acidity, tannins etc. simply amazing. Pair with any med hearty meal and you will be delighted.

Wine pours to a rich ruby red color in glass. Decantered for only 30 minutes (should wait at least 1 hour for more robust flavor). Amazing aromas of cherry and red fruit blow out of the glass. Tastes of cherry along with underlying tastes of raspberry, pepper, minerals, dusty earth. Med tannins. What an amazing bottle of wine. Great with everything from cheeses to a nice rich steak. This can’t be beat. Can be used for any major event or an Easter or Christmas dinner.

Wine pours to a dark inky red color. Decantered for an hour (next time I’ll do at least 2-3 hours). Aromas of dark fruit were abundant. Taste of dark fruit, plum, black concurrent, spice and some oak might be intertwined as well. The heat and high alcohol turned me off with this wine. Med tannins, and not as much complexity as I would like. I think with a much longer decant this wine would definitely improve. I’ll figure that out when I open the next bottle (probably not for some time).

Wine pours to a watery red color. Only decantered for 15-20 minutes. Had an ok aroma of red fruit. Tastes of cherry, plum and other red fruits. Little complexity with med tannins. Another bottle that James Suckling rated in mid-high 90’s that in my opinion doesn’t even come close. Overall this is an ok Wednesday night bottle for under $20 if your having leftovers or a pizza, but this is not a show winner.

Wow what a powerhouse wine. I tried a pignolo wine at a wine festival a year ago. Thought it was interesting and decided to splurge and buy a few of the higher rated available. I am amazed with what I have. Big and bold doesn’t even start with this wine. Pours to an inky black color and there was no way I could drink it for almost 2 hours worth of a decant. Powerful black fruit aromas pour out before you can get close. Tastes of blackberry jam along with blueberry and burnt black cherry overpower everything else. High octane tannins. Be prepared for a knockout punch wit this one. High alcohol, high everything. Amazing wine. Make sure you have a hearty meal prepared (I had a prime rib and it barely cut it)! The price is as huge as the wine. But worth every drop. Bon appetit.

Wine pours to a ruby red color with an array of beautifully combined aromas of cherry and red fruit. I’ve had many of these bottles, and always decant them. This time I popped and poured. It wasn’t as well blended as in the past, but still the tart cherry, vanilla and slight oak can be tasted. What an amazing bottle with a gorgeous amount of complexity and style. It’s probably still very young and needs more time sitting, but I still love it till the last drop. I have more in my cellar and will buy more before they’re done to ensure I have enough to last.

Wine pours to a watery red color on the rim of the glass. Aromas of red fruit and cherry. I failed to decanter this bottle but it actually helped determine the value of decantering. Stephen Ross is one of my favorite Pinot Noirs and I usually decanter their wines for at least 1 hour. This bottle I popped and poured. The usual mix of complexity, acidity and style was lacking. The tastes of minerals and pepper were almost absent. Crazy but true how much a little O2 can bring out the best in a bottle of wine. The last few sips were almost magical as to what it could have been. I love this stuff and will continue to be a wine club member as long as they keep producing the best (French style) stuff around.

Wine pours to a rich ruby red color. After a 30 minute decant, it opened to a nice aroma of dark fruit and some earth tones. Tastes of black cherry, blackberry and other dark fruits were pronounced and the wine was also rather hot with the alcohol octane. James Suckling rated this a 98?? Makes me wonder if he was just having a bad day in the winery as this wine doesn’t even come close. It is a very good wine overall with nice acidity, med-full body and has high tannins, but lacks the complexity and finesse for me to give it a rating above 90. It has a decent price to value ratio in my opinion, but don’t expect a mind bending 98 rated head turner like is depicted on the label. If you can get it for under $35 it is very worth trying.

Wine pours to a black red color on rim of glass. Decantered for 1 hour. Aromas of dark fruit and clove. Tastes of dark cherry were almost overpowering. Minerals, spice, cigar box were underlying tastes. Nice complexity and long finish. Very good wine for the price. Will definitely come back for more.

Wine poured to a rich ruby red color. Decantered for an hour, possibly a little long for this wine. Aromas of dark fruits. Tastes of cherry and a mixture of other dark fruits. Paired this with a NY Strip Steak and they complemented each other well, but would go great with cheeses as well. This was a nice drinking Merlot, but it didn't live up to my expectations of Hall wines. Their Cabernets are so much advanced, but for the price it was a very enjoyable wine.

My 2nd time buying this wine as I thought the first was rather exceptional considering the price. This was just as good as the first one. Full of flavors (cherry leading the way). Decanted for 1 hour, don’t think it needed the full amount. This might be my newest everyday drinking PN which is an amazing value. Definitely give this one a try.

Wine pours to a nice dark ruby red color. After a 1 hour decant had a nice bouquet of red and dark fruit. Tastes of dark cherry, earth, funk and minerals lead the way with lots of complexity for such an inexpensive Pinot Noir. Med bodied but full of tannins and a finish that lasted for some time. Very interesting Russian River PN that I would definitely recommend and buy again.

After drinking and loving Stephen Ross Pinot Noir’s I was a bit disappointed with this bottle. I’m not sure if it was over the hill or just the bottle. I get my wines straight from Ross, so the handling etc should have been good. Wine had no distinct flavors like I’m used to, aromas were muddled and missing. Thankfully I have many more Pinot’s from Ross and will enjoy drinking the others. If I had more of this vintage I would definitely open another to see if they have past their peak.

Very impressive wine at such a low price point. It poured to a rich ruby red color, after a 1 hour decant it had a nice expression of red fruit aromas. Tastes of cherry were immediately apparent, with undertones of raspberry, strawberry and other red fruits. I sensed a slight touch of oak. Med tannins. This is a very good drinking wine, highly recommend trying it.

Wine pours to a clear yellow color. Floral aromas of peach and pear. Definitely stored in French oak as the butter flavors peak out. Pear and peach flavors dominate with hints of minerals. Nice complexity with lots of layers. Stood up nice to a scampi chicken dish. Great Chardonnay at a nice price point. Highly recommended trying this.

What a high alcohol fruit forward bomb. Wine pours to a dark inky black color, and has intense black fruit aromas. You can smell the alcohol coming off it as I decanted for over an hour (probably should have left for another hour). I couldn’t pick out any individual fruits as the wine is overpowering with everything that’s going on. I can definitely see why many people loved this bottle, but at this price point i would like to see a better complexity and less heat. I didn’t rate the bottle as I see many people gave it high ratings and didn’t want to lower it for my individual tastes. If I had I would have given it an 89 at best.

Wow what an amazing bottle of wine. Pours to a watery red color which has a subtle bouquet of earthy aromas. Flavors of mushroom and minerals jump right out at you from the very first sip. Underlying tastes of cherry, raspberry and forest floor unravel as the glass empties. Almost no tannins in this med bodied very uncharacteristicly non fruit bomb of the usual California Pinot noir. After a 1 hour decant, we enjoyed every drop. At a very reasonable price point I only wish I bought more.

This wine opens with a bang. Aromas leap out with blackberry and dark fruits. Total fruit forward and heavy tannin wine. Decantered for an hour and could have left for a few more but didn’t want to wait any longer. My only concern was the lack of complexity in fruits. Could this be going downhill? It was stored it in my wine fridge since I purchased it. No matter, a great wine to be paired with a hearty meal.
