Decanted for 1hr. Seductive margaux nose. Really sweet, plump, brambley fruit. Lots of spice, cedar and vanilla on the finish. But the sweet fruit steals the show. Excellent. Never had a bad du tertre and thankfully it remains great value.

Straight from bottle and drunk half over 3hrs. I am really struggling for positives with this wine. Very little on the nose and nothing much going on with the palate. This is my second (and thankfully last) bottle of this vintage and the first wasn't any better. Clearly a great producer at the top end but that class wasn't showing here.

2008 Château Calon-Ségur St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)

First bottle from case bought en primeur. Decanted for 2 hours. Lots of earth and oak to begin with but after another hour or so all the components began to integrate well. Retained some st estephe typicity but in a rather aristocratic way - polished tannins and a streak of acidity keeping it all in balance. Overall a good showing for the vintage but it needs some time and air to come around at the moment.

This has put on some more weight and depth since I last tried it. Really good quality for a village wine and in a great place right now.

Opened for a couple of hours before drinking with comte. This is a cracking little lalande from a chateau I haven't come across before. Silky and seductive, everything is in balance with lots of complexity on the palate. Pretty decent finish. If you have any in the cellar time to start enjoying :-)

From a 375ml, pnp. Attractive nose of marmalade and honey. Palate similar with a bit of acidity and some reassuring sauternes spice on the finish. I'm a fan of sauternes so this was easy to drink and enjoyable but I'm wondering if this style/vintage was better suited to earlier drinking for the freshness.

Drank from coravin at Planet of the Grapes, Saint Pauls. Surprisingly deep colour but age betrayed by bricking on rim and nose. Stewed fruits and metallic edge to palate but holding up okay. Dryish, long finish. Pedigree shining through and although past its peak, remains enjoyable.

Drank at Planet of the Grapes, Saint Pauls. 15yr old pomerol that is right in the sweet spot at the moment. A great combination of opulent fruit wrapped in silky tannins with a nice touch of spice on the finish. Perfect for a December evening.

Decanted for 1hr. This is really starting to drink well. A core of mature red fruit holds everything together and there are nuances of sous bois flavours creeping through. A pleasure to drink.

My first domain de chevalier red and it has jumped straight into my list of favourite bordeaux châteaux. Even the supposedly poor 2007 vintage hasn't diminished the style and charm of this wine. Excellent stuff. Will be hunting down some bottles from the decent years. Decanted for 3hrs.

First bottle from case purchased en primeur. Popped cork and drank over the course of the afternoon. Accessible almost immediately and continued to improve. All the attributes you would expect from an 11 yr old quality cru classe but lacked the extra finesse you get from a great vintage. In the drinking window for me but will be interesting to see how it develops.

Purchased en primeur from Berry Bros. Decanted for 30 mins. Best bottle so far. A dense, nervy Morgon. The quality of fruit, dominated by blueberries, is superb and is supported by some spice and earthy flavours. Still feels a bit tight so looking forward to seeing how this matures. A cracking example of top quality cru beaujolais.

Some strange aromas immediately after opening so left overnight. Much better on day 2. Slightly cloying but just had enough acidity to drink on its own. Went surprisingly well with smoked mackerel and fried courgettes - I think aged sauternes is a bit of a waste with dessert. Also ridiculously cheap at £5 ib for halves. Brightened up a Tuesday evening.

First of case of 6 purchased en primeur following howard ripley tasting. Was singing and dancing straight from the bottle. Lovely gevrey fruit and sweetness backed up with some weight and a decent finish. Exactly what you want from a village burgundy. Remaining 1/3 rd of bottle wasn't any better on day 2 so don't think there will be much benefit in waiting.

Popped and poured with pasta pollo. Nice honey colour. Straw and apple on the nose. Alcohol and oak add structure to the palate with a buttery lemon flavour. Very enjoyable and shows that you can get a decent burgundy hit at macon level. Think 2010 shaping up well for white burgundy.

1st of 6. decanted for 30 mins and drunk with fillet steak. Opened up pretty quickly. Nice ruby red colour, earthy aromas with a whiff of gasoline(?). On the palate sour cherries and violets held together with a velvety core. Pinch of spice on the finish. Not particularly structured or complex but a polished performance and was going well after the food was finished. Could get better. Like this a lot.

Drunk with sirloin steak and decanted 30 mins. Took another 30 mins to start opening up. Nice sweet opening, cherry, dried red fruits, rose and licorice. Dry finish. Classic barolo style. Bit of heat coming from the 15 degrees. Enjoyable and drinking well now.

Fresh and vibrant, lots of passion fruit on the nose and palate. Not particularly structured or complex but works well as an aperitif. Not getting the spice on the finish that is mentioned in the other posts (too subtle for me!)

First bottle from case of 6, £12 dp. Drunk with lemon sole. Nose expressive - lemon, pear, honey. Very rich on the palate and long creamy finish. First time I have come across savennieres and very impressed by this. A sophisticated and classy wine which is offering delicious drinking now and promises a good future.

Drunk with roast pork and decanted 1hr in advance. Not a particularly showy style of Gevrey and the cherry fruit is beginning to fade. Not a bad thing though, this is a subtle and nuanced wine which continues to open and evolve over an afternoon. Overall a very pleasurable wine which is going well now.

Penultimate bottle from case of 12 and have never been wowed by this wine. However, tonight decanted to accompany sirloin steak and it showed much better. Rich dark and red fruits and the silky tannins you expect from good Argentinian malbec. Not up there with the very best but for c£10 bottle an accomplished effort. Don't expect it to improve.
