Red
2015 Domaine Durand Cornas Empreintes Syrah
This bottle has shut down a bit, but there is a juicy red fruit that comes forward after an hour (not sure if I find it too modern - maybe some more time in the bottle). Still, very good.

11/21/21, 5:23 PM - Just opened a bottle and wholly agree it is closed.

White
2015 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Blanc Chardonnay
The ripe fruit and subtle well integrated oak are in perfect harmony all backed up by fresh acidity. Touch of saline, fresh nuts and citrus on the finish. Not sure whether it's worth risking any further ageing - I'm sure it's capable!

This is just an extraordinary wine considering the price. Obviously a fantastic vintage, this thickly-textured yet light-on-its feet wine is full-bodied with rich flavors of blackberry fruit, tobacco and garrigue spices. Ethereal and silky-fine with excellent grip on the finish sporting firm dusty tannins and superb complexity with notes of coal dust and Mediterranean warmth and salinity. Perfect now but this will still go a long way. Brilliant Mourvedre for $35.

5/29/20, 5:17 PM - Totally agree. Great comment. Enjoying a bottle now

White
2012 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Mont Chenin Blanc
This wine is really bad. It's not as terrible as its cousin, the Clos du Bourg, but it's just not good. Huet missed the mark in a meaningful way in 2012 and I question the merit of laying these down for long term or buying at all going forward. Avoid or drink now.

4/30/19, 1:20 PM - drwine2001 - thanks for the reply. It's unfortunate, but it comes with the territory I guess. Just a point of reference for others reading, I waited until I had tasted a few bottles of this and the Clos du Bourg before posting this assessment.

Red
2012 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Liaison Baden
Affable, lighter version of pinot...easy drinking that cannot in my mind be mistaken for burgundy...

12/6/17, 6:57 PM - I see you are getting your MindAligned. I disagree. Had the 15 tonight and would challenge u blindfolded that you'd have trouble with this versus village volnay (or somthing feminine). Would agree that there may be some vintage variation from '12 to '15 as well, as this vintner has matured.

Pleasant but basic Pinot. Classic pale ruby color, very slightly cloudy. Quickish legs suggested lower alcohol (label says 12.5%). Quiet nose - cranberries, toast and herbs. The palate was dominated by some lively acidity which overwhelmed the gentler tannins. Red fruit - cranberries, but little else. Nothing complex here.
  • mchrist commented:

12/6/17, 6:52 PM - I would politely disagree, despite agreeing with some of your notes (legs, tannins). I think the nose is quite complex and the finish long and agreeable. I would also comment that my bottle was clear ruby red. No clouds. I really enjoy these bottles, but am interested in other opinions. Thx for posting.

2015 Jean-Claude Lapalu Beaujolais-Villages Vieilles Vignes Gamay
2nd round from bottle opened 10/9...

More open and fruit forward...I think if drinking early this benefits with air...Problem with bojo tho is it rarely lasts long enough to receive this benefit!

Very odd. We knew enough to let it breathe a while, an hour or so, in part because the nose was so extreme. "Extremely what?" you might ask. Girlfriend took a while to identify it. Once, she lived over a meth lab. And the lab caught fire. That's what it smelled like. Taste was totally cryptic to me (not to her -- she spat it out). It went from a raw alcohol to something quite pleasant (brine, saline, minerals, the kind of thing you might expect) to more of a bold fruity -- nope, that went away again. Only, the taste -- unpleasant as it was -- lasted a good long time. Put the bottle away. Resolved a bit on day two though the burning meth lab smell (and taste) was still there for my co-taster. Day three? Undrinkable. Flawed? Probably.

Red
2005 Château de Pibarnon Bandol Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre
Orange/brown rim. Prunes and dark plums on the nose. Again prunes on the palate, resolved tannins, smooth. Prune eau de vie indicates more than the 13.50% alcohol advertised on the label - there is alcohol burn on the back of the mouth. Serve colder than you would normally due to the spiky alcohol. This is a bit cooked in style. Mid palate lacks body. I agree with other tasters that this is disappointing and seems to be on the decline - I have had much better Bandol from smaller, less well know producers such as Lafran-Veyrolles.

Double decanted; moderate sediment. First pour one hour later. A hint of browning at the edges of a medium ruby color. Flowery nose of dark fruit and tobacco. Medium bodied with more coffee and bell pepper on the palate than fruit. Ample acids and a long finish with smooth tannins. However, I'd enjoy this far more with more fruit on the palate, and if all the parts seemed to fit together better. Overall, this wine is not for me. But I'll taste agaian tomorrow and see if anything better develops.
Day 2: Still out of whack. Then it occurred to me that this particular bottle had been taken to a Florida beach last week, but brought back home unopened. On the return trip the car was parked for a couple of hours in the sun, and the off taste may have been the result of being cooked in the car.

9/9/15, 6:37 AM - pls let me know how this turns out day 2. '03 such a hot vintage and I have generally found these wines to be OK at best in first hour, then flat thereafter.

this did not age well. the fruit is stewed..almost vinegar at this point. it was stored in perfect conditions. I opened the 2004 and it was much better.
  • mchrist commented:

2/17/14, 3:09 PM - I have had similar experiences across a couple of '03 producers with over bearing fruit and no acidity. I know corked wine too, and this is not it. That said - the notes on this wine (which I have not tried, so pls don't hold that against me) look like they are from pros who know their stuff. My take, is that there are inconsistencies in the vintage across producers and I also sense that in different bottlings, some fared better than others. Good luck, and pls post if you try another bottle.

NO. Very disappointing, give the price. One bottle was flawed and the other was not good. Harsh tannins, low fruit and a nose that seemed vert a/c hot. I don't think this is a timing issue. I think it is just not a good wine.
  • mchrist commented:

3/9/14, 5:22 PM - 03 is spotty - thanks for the note. I have a few bottles - will bust one open soon. I think it's a "drink now" or perish vintage more than anything else.

Way too early to drink this Wine, Decanted for one hour and a have, still a bit too green. But the adorable parfume and the rich tast of the wine show that it's a wine with good potential!
  • mchrist commented:

1/26/14, 2:57 PM - I agree with the comment. Wine shows better after being open 24 hrs. Does drink well now
