Drouhin cellar. As good as old Burg gets. Color is browning but absolutely clear. Baking spice aromatics. Sweet and savory palate with astonishing lift and purity. Ethereal.

J&B. Sadly my last bottle. Ruby, clear. Exuberant floral, iodine and animale aromatics, classic. Pure, depth and length.

J&B. Felt this bottle was a touch heat affected and others could be better. Beef and iron aromatics. Palate quite pure with five spice finish. Touch short.

J&B. Ruby, translucent. Super floral, exuberant aromatics. Sweet palate, bitter finish. There's no sign of heat and purity is astounding. Despite youth, no issue with drinking this today.

J&B. Advanced color, touch of orange. Butterscotch and dill aromatics. Beautiful clarity on palate. All in all progressing faster than I'd hope.

J&B. Bit of diesel and reduction to start. Delivers attractive and perhaps surprising for vintage austerity despite weight. Bitter finish.

Surprised how delicious this was. Reduction, floral aromatics. Fresh, crisp, red fruit palate.

Smells and tastes off dry. Some honey both aromatics and palate. It’s ripe and delicious but perhaps would have preferred more cut.

Elegance and purity in a glass. Bright translucent ruby that shines, glistens. Aroma between floral and cherry. Palate is dense yet effortless if that even makes sense, power without weight. (12287/13781)

Greg. Color positively shines. Really stemmy. So pure and polished, this very clearly veers more Leroy than whatever the appellation. Sweet, incredibly intense palate. (997/1756)

Greg. Less about flavor profile, which was more savory than I prefer nut retention of acidity. A still wine that wows through complexity and intensity.

Greg. I get it. Slightly rose colored, but remains incredibly elegant and balanced. Very sweet palate, round and fully resolved. Even touch of nail polish to finish. Superb.

Greg. Like to smell this more than actually drinking it. Plummy, floral aromas, lots of energy. Problem is palate overpoweringly sweet. Really evokes bitter chocolate.

1999 DRC Horizontal. Need to investigate when this cuvee turned the corner but certainly not by 1999. Slightly fuzzy, creamy and a touch cooked. You’d be silly or masochistic not to trade up to GE. (10020/14651)

1999 DRC Horizontal. Smells and tastes like a riper, less balanced of La Tache. If that sounds disappointing that’s right and consistent with 3 other bottles recently tried. Maybe time will cure these ills but I highly doubt it. Sell. (4524/6917)

1999 DRC Horizontal. A killer but you knew that didn’t you. There’s a fine balance of acidity throughout this wine that’s perfectly executed. Superior to RC in this vintage. Floral, stem and achingly pure aromatics. There’s all the persistence and depth of flavor you’d want but never overdone and extremely polished. (11687/16640)

1999 DRC Horizontal. You can hear the angels on this one. Everything goes silent. The animale, the lift, the energy and the sweetness of aromatics sucks you in. Almost incongruous with incredible mineralite. The complexity, refinement and clarity is quite profound. (10141/14772)

1999 DRC Horizontal. No need to look down on this poor stepchild of the lineup as it showed better than Echezeaux in my view. Cherries and flowers on a cool aromatic riff. Really pure, if slightly light. (6723/21055)
