Mid 80’s

Flat. Missing depth of fruit. It just went “czhu, czhu, czhu, czhu”

Interesting for sure. Went great with homemade gnocchi. But there’s a lot better Barolo out there.

Decant 1-2 hours

11/7/22, 12:27 PM - Maybe a bad bottle? When I’ve had this recently it was singing. Definitely required upwards of a 8-12 hour decant though!

A numeric rating is a bit of a joke for a wine like this. If you like old Barolo, you'll love it.

Very young. Was great on first day, even better on second day. Silky berries with some strawberry. Slightly austere tannic structure with plenty more room to get better with age. Overall very well balanced. You don’t see many California Cabs with 13% ABV like this anymore

Spent 4-5 hrs in a wide-bottom decanter before tasting. Just way too young and unfortunately quite monolithic right now. Dense, and clearly elegant, but lacking serious Vosne spice I expect at this level. Dense tannin on the finish.

7/18/21, 7:06 PM - Probably needs another 5-10 years (at least) from what I understand. Thanks for the note

4/12/21, 5:39 AM - I found this pretty funny too. I don’t think it’s meant to be a negative tone (especially since 89 points is still a good wine in my book). I’ve had this wine and thought it was good but it’s definitely meant to appeal to a younger crowd of wine drinkers which is more into instant gratification. I still think this specific vintage is too young and could use some more cellaring though.

A more rustic and traditional style of Sangiovese, some see a lot of fruit in this, I feel this is more rustic in character. Aromas of dark cherry, tomato leaf, balsamic, forest floor, black tea, dried thyme, vanilla and tar. The palate is medium-bodied and light, little in the way of structure with an acidic backbone along with dusty tannins, dried fruit, cedar, herbaceous and savory notes run down the center of the palate. The finish is simple. In general this feels quite flat.
Here we go...... the world's greatest wine critic gave this 97 and said contender of the vintage. Well, it's not that great. From a personal level, I would give this around 88. However, technically it is probably more 90-91. the acid is quite overwhelming which hits the tongue, I try to see through this, this is made in a more traditional fashion with large wooden Botti. I visited these guys a few years back and to be honest, was not that impressed. I suppose this is a style that some enjoy, yet technically it is just the acid and the lack of body, structure that is stopping this from scoring higher.

I like this wine but I can't say I love it. It was smooth and flavorful with good balance. I have had wines from the same area for much less that I think are better. It might be my palate but I thought this was just ok and life is too short for just ok. I used a coravin so I will let this rest for 5 years and check it out again.
  • RomanPski commented:

1/10/20, 12:22 AM - I wouldn’t judge a wine like this off of a Coravin pour. Wine probably needed a decant and definitely more time in bottle. It’s also fairly risky to keep a Corvined wine for more than a few months and not finish the bottle FYI

Gigantic wine, think Arnie Schwarzernegger benching 200kgs.
Massive, massive, dense black fruits, wall of tannin and never-ending length.
Blackberries, blueberries, violets, earth, iron, chocolate, hint of mushroom, candy, and then tannin, tannin, tannin. Huge, round and ripe tannins.
Reminds me of when they used to make the great Granges of the 60's and 70's, massive wines that were unapproachable for their first 15 years (today's versions a far cry from those Golden Years)
You could probably drink this for another 12-18 months, but then this baby is going to sleep for two decades, maybe even more.
Expect to see lots of notes of disappointment written here from 2019-2035
as drinkers open a bottle they don't understand.
This is old-school Corton, and the best red from that hill that I have ever come across.
Buy some for your grandchildren, they will toast you with this wine in all it's glory in 2075!!!

A deep, jewel of a color, this wine is filled with black plum liqueur, flowers, black cherry and fig aromatics. Opulent, sexy and with depth of character, like the ultimate first date, it’s ripe with tremendous potential for a long-term pleasure. With tannins as velvety as the thighs of a virgin bride, there is an expressive, sensual, hedonistic texture awash with dense, ripe plums, chocolate, truffle and caramel covered nuts in the finish. The wine was made from a blend of 90% old vine Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, reaching 14.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.7. The harvest took place from September 27 to October 8. The Grand Vin was made from a whopping 50% of the harvest, so it's going to be hard to find this wine -- only 16,000 bottles were produced! I have a tendency to under estimate this wine in barrel, as there is so much going on, so I would not be surprised to see this get even better in the bottle. 96 - 98 Pts

2/12/18, 7:01 PM - Very nice review. From the looks of some reviews I've seen it seems this wine might be in a deep sleep at the moment. I'm going to purchase 3 of these and put them away in my cellar. I'm really not thinking of opening one up until at least 2028-2030. Do I have the right idea?
