Still fresh appearance with deep purple hue, dark ruby edge to clear rim, slightly reticent nose of black plum, vanilla and a hint of cedar. On the palate, the tannin seems better integrated, oak still noticeable, with raspberry, blackberry, black currant, dark cherry chocolate and plum, oak not fully integrated, alcohol noticeable on mid - long finish. Better after 2 hours from decant Will give this another 3 years before opening another.

Brown with a green tinge. Molasses, honey and petrol nose. Quince, bruised apple, ripe fig, brown sugar palate. Sufficient acid and length make this a fine pair with Tarte Tatin. Definitely worth the wait and a fun end to the evening. Faded after 15 minutes in the glass.

Decanted for 1/2 hour in narrow necked decanter to blow off some autumnal scents. A shade past it, with brownish tinges to the mid-plumb body and clear rim, a black cherry, cola, violets and leather nose and an inviting, broad, sweetish palate, with a reprise of cherry, cola and leather, hint of red fruits and fruitcake, all held together with just enough remaining tannin and decent acid. Not fresh but not far off its peak, overall just as enjoyable as 2 years ago when tannins were a little more prominent. Faded gracefully after another hour in the decanter. Not wine of the night but an interesting contrast to a couple of jammy fruit bombs from the same producer. Best food pairing: grilled pork sausages. I have never seen this wine from another vintage and will finish my very last one of these this winter

In a really great place, still with a little time to go. Gorgeous match with grilled filet of beef for early family dinner.
Perfect humidity storage at 11C undisturbed since release. Decanted 1 hour, served at 16C. Deep ruby centre to clear rim, no orange. Char, black currant and mulberry initially on the nose, then releasing cedar and a hint of leather. Fresh dark cherry, more cassis, blackberry, well integrated vanilla/oak notes with great acid/tannin balance on palate. Later milk chocolate, smoke and slight menthol tinge. Quite a lovely mouthful with medium length. Best bottle of the case, with 5 to go, I will keep the last one to 2025. Another futures bargain, still fairly priced.

Surpringly yourhful bottle: mid-yellow gold with just the slightest greenish tinge. Had to check the label as at a glance it could easily have been 2012 or later! Lemon curd with vanilla, nuts, pineapple and apricot nose repeat on the lengthy palate adding hay and honey. Such wonderful depth and freshness, surprisingly firm acidity and buttery texture. Nothing close to the overripe/ heavily oaked over the hill example that we poured down the sink a year ago! Developed more intensity and complexity over an hour, just coming up short when too warm.

Sadly the briary / limestone notes have not disappeared, so the rest of this case is going to find other consumers. Can’t see what others find so fine, for me this is not an interesting wine.

Purchased on release in early 1992. Low neck/ high shoulder. Wet cork throughout with mould under the capsule and down the sides despite impeccable conditions of storage. Garnet/brick rim and full deep core. Classic Pauillac nose of graphite, cedar and black currant, hint of leather. Add to the same with addition of rose-hip on the palate, not much attack, nicely balanced but slightly lightweight and ends short. Drink 5 years ago, if not now. Slightly rounder after an hour following decanting, minimal sediment. A pleasant and largely typical example, certainly not remarkable. Only one left and looking to finish the case soon. Early promise not delivered.
