Vindredi (Barolo & Barbaresco) (Bellevue, WA): Tasted blind. A little menthol, spice, and tar on the nose. Light and pretty body with dried flowers, potpourri and a soft, pretty palate. Light-to-medium acid with fine tannins on the lengthy finish. Beautiful.

6/27/18, 7:45 AM - @Onthelees: No decant, but opened and proofed a few hours prior to the tasting.

Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Tasted blind. Sadly I don't have more detailed notes, but this was my (and the group's) least preferred wine of the flight. It was up against some really tough competition -- while good, the others were better!

1/2/17, 9:06 PM - It was up against some really tough competition (click the event title to see the full lineup)! All were great wines, but this didn't show as well as the others.

DRC Tasting Group (Bellevue, WA): Tasted blind. Flowers, oyster shell. Rich and powerful, with a beautifully balanced body. Elegant, lovely.

9/12/16, 8:48 AM - Yes! It was in pretty strong company and showed very well. Young, of course, but certainly enjoyable.

Rose petals, cedar spice, potpourri. Lovely pure fruit on the palate; raspberry, cherry, cola. Super fine tannins and balanced acidity on the lingering finish along with a hint of sour cherry. Lovely overall!
  • dpolivy commented:

9/6/16, 9:29 AM - I opened it and then poured through an aerator.

Disgorged in 2012 I think, based on purchase date. Lovely nose; brioche, citrus, green apple. Fine mousse, with leaner lemon and green apple fruit followed by a backbone of excellent acidity. Fresh, clean, and lively.
  • dpolivy commented:

1/10/16, 5:46 PM - I'm pretty sure it was on the back. I don't think any of my Vilmart has it in red on the front, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's always delicious!

Smoke and peat and some pine on the nose. The palate starts with bright cherry but gains significant depth with air. Incredibly supple and silky, just gorgeous textually. These Markus Ruch wines are really quite special.

Super elegant, silky, and balanced. Dense, dark fruit, a bit of chocolate, and some nice savory notes from the syrah. This is drinking really well right now!

Cedar, eucalyptus, spice and some dark cherries on the nose. Nice weighty body with a soft, yet full mouth feel. Tobacco, tar, and muted black cherry. Soft, round tannins and a bit of acidity to finish it off, all with nice length. Definitely opened up with time in the decanter.

A nice wine to welcome home my new baby girl!

Way past its prime. No fruit left.
  • dpolivy commented:

2/25/14, 9:54 PM - Sounds like a bad bottle, unfortunately. Just had one tonight and there was lots of fruit showing.

DRC Tasting Group: Bordeaux Night (Wild Ginger, Seattle, WA): Tasted blind. Subtle, aged nose, with a touch of brett. Definitely showing its age on the body, but it was still nice and light, with a soft elegance and great mouthfeel. Light tannins, and nice balance. Perfect provenance on the bottle.
  • dpolivy commented:

1/12/14, 11:04 AM - Yes, we both tasted from the same bottle. As we tasted it blind, I'm not certain how high the fill was. There was one bottle we had trouble opening (in retrospect, likely this one); the cork was quite soft, though I can't recall the fill level.

I opened this bottle to celebrate CellarTracker passing the 25 MILLION BOTTLE milestone. Sheesh!

This NV was purchased 5 years ago so has a little age. Still tightly wound, this does show some of the bready Krug notes I would expect. A rather mineral and wound up palate, faint bitterness at first, mineral and saline. However after a few hours this started to get so creamy with notes of white chocolate, the first time I have ever really noted that on a wine.

Mmm, why exactly is the last glass always the best? Really delicious.

And on we march to 50 million bottles.

Really digging the nose; subtle and elegant, it's showing a nice mix of vanilla, hint of mocha and light wood spice. The elegance continues through the body, where it's soft, silky and mouthcoating, showcasing some darker red and black fruit complemented by floral, spice, and mocha. Round, super fine tannins carry through intense length on the finish. Exceptionally well balanced.
  • dpolivy commented:

6/10/13, 11:27 PM - I think it's drinking really well now, and seems like it will continue to improve for a few more years.

Gorgeous nose of red cherries, strawberries, flowers and some light barrel spice. Very rich and expansive on the palate, with great fruit along with some earth and tea notes. Round and polished fine tannins. Finishes with some prominent (perhaps a touch astringent?) acids and lots of length. Really enjoyable even at this stage.
  • dpolivy commented:

6/5/13, 9:30 AM - Yeah, there's definitely a lot of acid in this one; I'm looking forward to trying it again in a few years to see if its harmonized a bit more.

Vindredi (Grand Cru (Bellevue, WA)): Tasted blind. Winner of its flight. Earthy, red fruit, and candy on the nose--beautiful, really. Body was quite elegant, continuing with the red fruits and finishing with nicely integrated fine tannins.
  • dpolivy commented:

1/8/13, 10:14 PM - Yeah, it was surprising to us, as well! I think it was one of the more approachable wines at this stage -- would be interesting to re-do this tasting in 10-15 years!

Friends and I tasted this at the Woodinville tasting room on 11/4/12. It had an elegant, complex and fragrant bouquet of smoke, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, and spice aromas. The palate was smooth, poised and well balanced with flavors of black currant, blackberry, vanilla, and spice. 91+

Big, Red Mountain style cab. Great balance and smoothness despite being a huge wine. Good complexity. PDQ93
