the wine is a bright garnet color.. on the nose are red cherries in bright sunshine, fresh medicinal herbs, camphor, volcanic ash.. the palate is red cherries glowing from the inside, bundles of green medicinal herbs, volcanic ash, amaro.. the finish is long and bitter like Amaro della Sacra.. bright acidity keeps the wine light and fresh.. very beautiful in a kind of difficult way

11% abv.. from the Vittoria DOCG on red clay with limestone substrates.. organic viticulture.. fermented and aged in concrete

crunchy red currants and blackberries and red plums.. gravel and tar.. mountain sage, mint and smoldering iron.. bright and deep and wild..

the body of the wine is lithe but powerful.. there is an acidity that lends a brightness to all of the flavors.. the tannins are grippy and structuring

v impressive

deep ruby.. 13.5% abv.. from own-rooted vines planted in 1969 in Sonoma Valley at 1700' on the ridgeline that divides Napa Valley from the Valley of the Moon.. planted in rocky, austere soils of clay-loam, and volcanics.. dry-farmed..

this wine is deep and sappy almost medicinal tart cherry and redcurrant and bouquet garni.. only 12.5% alcohol but the flavors are so powerful.. this wine is really excellent especially for the price!

a strong lanolin quality on the nose that dissipates with some air into wildflower honey and pebbles, a muskiness and Mirabelle plums, layers of complexity that you fall through in quick succession.. the honey is thick in the mouth and unctuous

this wine has a light garnet color.. on the nose it is delicate pomegranate and cacao and on the palate much the same with the addition of thin membrane of menthol.. the wine is quite delicate while also having a prevalent structure.. the combination of the lightness with the structure creates a sweeping, airy architecture that I find compelling

I cork vetted this wine at a table and was given a small taste so my experience with the wine was brief but the nose was vibrant with white and orange peaches, delicate honey, and stone .. there was a tremendous luminosity to the nose as though when I breathed from the glass a light was shined on me .. the palate matched the nose .. dry with medium plus acidity and tingling minerality .. the wine was clean with no natty characteristics

this wine is all shimmery green tea, lime, late light, nectarine, and small round river stones rolling on your tongue, the body is lithe and dynamic .. the wine was poetic and moving and has stayed in my mind a long time after

I feel like the previous tasters are overstating the tannins in this wine.. the bottle I opened tonight certainly has tannin but it comes across as a tectonic earthiness beneath pomegranate and raspberry fruits with a pleasant mint cooling effect over the surface of the wine.. the nose is a rich forest floor, mushroom, pine bark mix.. quite good, though I like the Muschelkalk substantially more.. I imagine this wine will benefit from age

these wines are so incredibly good .. nose of peppers and petrichor and stone and like a little bit of black plums and raspberries and cassis .. the palate much the same with the addition of a perfect thin surface of cooling herbs over the object of the wine .. really amazing value

on the second day the aeromatics really started to come through .. on the first day the oak still felt quite heavy .. the wine had intense spice and leather and wet asphalt and smoke .. I wish there was more architecture to the wine to give a shape for the aromas to sit on, but the complexity became impressive with some air

like if bees made honey out of pineapple and lime and then somehow it was made into a gas, glowing green neon onto a bed of fresh cooling herbs ... electric and precise with a Damascus blade of salinity that comes surging through ... one of the two most memorable wines I've drunk this year

too much VA on this one for my taste .. seems like it would be a really lovely, lithe Pinot Noir without it .. and you can just barely feel it beneath the VA but there's way too much of it

shy but very complex .. at first I thought there wasn't much there but with air a wavy kind of airiness came into the wine .. it's been a second since the tasting and I don't remember the specifics but the wine became more and more moving .. I'll take better notes with my second bottle : )

deep purple in the glass .. nose of tobacco leaf and blueberry and incense, olives, mint, and spice .. palate v similar to the nose .. medium to full bodied .. extremely complex and lovely .. a little mousiness showed up after the wine had been opened for about an hour .. incredible Côte-Rôtie

made from old vine Sérine, an ancient Syrah clone

I much prefer the Rive Gauche.. this wine had strong tones of oxidation (which I often enjoy) but in this wine there wasn't the acidity or minerality to give the oxidation structure.. was missing much of the liveliness that I so love in the Rive Gauche

grapes come from Chambolle-Musigny and Morey St. Denis from 45 year old vines. this is fabulous Bourgogne. extremely light footed, this wine shows ruby in the glass. the nose is muted [but I also have a little bit of a cold] mostly I'm getting wet forest floor, moss, a kind of musky animal smell. the palate is extremely light. mint and cinnamon and clove. a light green tea. almost like cantaloupe for the fruit and dried strawberries. if I'd had a blindfold on I would have a hard time telling you the color of the wine, I think [which is a fun and humbling thing to try]. the tannins and acid are mild. the wine is incredibly delicate. it's fascinating me. something light is going on with each sip that leaves me feeling more attentive than I expect. as though some turn is about to happen which I can't predict. which maybe it is : ) the longer I sip with it the more I feel like this is exceptional wine!

the nose is delicate tea overtures, like a breeze through a pine forest, cinnamon, cocoa powder. the palate is as if red cherry was made into resin, eucalyptus, cocoa powder, mushroom umami, and moss. deep and sappy. powerful but medium bodied with medium acid. perfectly balanced. really incredible wine. reminds me of a lythe Mazis-Chambertin.

the first bottle of this I drank had substantial volatile acidity but this bottle is completely clean.

Wine was medium to dark straw in color .. the nose was relatively muted but the palate had lovely tropical flavors of lychee and pineapple a slight acetone quality at the finish .. I detected very little indication of the long skin contact .. the acid was juicy medium and the body medium plus .. really delicious

extremely reductive

after being open for the better part of a week the reduction of the wine seems to have passed.. the wine is extremely lean.. the color is light straw.. the nose is spare like water on rocks.. the palate leads with a very quick attack of honey and lime but like the shadow of it.. the acidity is strong and the minerality austere.. the finish is of mint and unripe honey dew melon.. the wine has a sculptural spare beauty.. very dry.. I want to think more about this

I decanted this wine in a red wine decanter for two hours and it was still reductive.. on day five some nuance has appeared.. kind of insane

This wine's fucked .. I love the natural wine movement for the way that it's pushed vineyard practices in healthier directions and the way that it's encouraged people to look for wider variation of varietals. But cellar practices must be improved for the movement to gain lasting power. This is the second bottle of this wine that I've had. All typicity is blown out by VA and Brett. 1er cru Burgundy is such a lovely realm because the specificity of the terroir is so delineated and the body is still so ethereal so often. This one is just blown out. It's funny that SO2 isn't added because it tastes like a hot springs. Some sulphur might have done the wine some good, though I imagine the trouble came before-hand. I want so much for the natural wine movement to figure out the cellar. They've done so much good in every other realm. I couldn't tell you this was Pinot Noir to save my life, much less 1er cru Burgundy. I want these wines to be better. I took a sip and waited 45 minutes and took another sip and poured it down the drain.
