Friday, September 21, 2018 - developing and already fine tannins, however body was quite weak, surprised, storage problems?? Fruit also clearly lacking, lots of woody spicy aromas but not living up to a great vintage. Bottle variation??

Branaire is an intriguing wine to me and always seems to be underrated by everyone.....and the term 'shutdown', too. Shutdown to me is a wine that is closed and very limited with nothing to offer the drinker yet. Branaire for some reason always has a different 'feel' to me, just seems to need time (15 years) to grow, to build to a beautiful crescendo. Hence, to me, a recent Branaire just always feels immature until it's ready.

9/22/2018 7:09:00 AM - These wines are made in the classic style (no sweetness from fruit, just underlying stuffing for future complexity) they need time (15 years is pretty correct from great vintages such as 2010 to me too- the 2000 is now drinking and the 2005 its still clenched). Don't kill babies and cry. Get a nice stash going and have patience and smile...And learn to love gray, its the new black. Cheers
