Tuesday, December 8, 2020 - Ethereal and peppery, this is so much fun. Reductive and a little smoky, this element mostly blows off and integrates with all the other stuff. Aromas of peppercorns, blood orange, red plum, strawberry, iron, fennel seed, dry autumn meadow, rosehips, a little roasted and charred something or other.... there's plenty of mystery and intrigue here. Fresh and lively on the palate, light to medium in body, very mineral and herbal, very dry but not so tannic, lots of tart juicy fruit, but gentle acids, subtle satin textured, there is great balance and such character. Lingering notes of blood orange and herbs are delicious, but the clear and present minerality, a pure chorus of rocks, is utterly intoxicating. This is like some kind of sunny red Muscadet. It is awesome.

2/16/2021 8:14:00 AM - Give it tons of air and you may get a lot more out of it. I would bet this is way more interesting on day 2 or 3. I'm not 100% certain this will be better after time in the bottle, as the reductive element is strong and I'm not sure where that will go. It is intense and balanced, however, so if the reduction doesn't get in the way, this will surely develop positively for many years. It's a weird one, that's for sure.

2/19/2021 6:03:00 AM - I think with this wine it very much depends on what style of wine you generally prefer. Those who prefer fruit-driven, dense wines with melting and woody notes will not be happy with the "Migan". This wine is a rather stark reflection of its volcanic origin and its ancient vines, which have deep roots. The fruit is rather subtle, resembling a blend of Pinot Noir and matured Syrah in the style of Chateau des Tours (Rayas), combined with an incredible minerality. Young, lean Natural wine style, with moderate tannins and medium alcohol. I am very enthusiastic about this wine. A competent wine lover who likes to drink Bdx, considerably less so.

You are correct in your assumptions. I like a lot of different styled wines depending upon my mood, the weather, time of year, food pairings, etc. I did find the nose as being particularly interesting, and not really to my liking. I am open to seeing how this develops, but will not revisit for at least 3-5 years. Cheers and thank you for your notes.
