  • I finally found a way to sufficiently aerate Envinate. See photo!

After 5 hours like this we melted the astringent, rubbery reduction, leaving a boundary of stone under which lived a pulsating core of crystalline red fruit.

  • Very interesting wine from the Canary Islands. Very tobacco, earthy and ash like in texture and on the nose this wine took about an hour to open and soften up. When it did there were layers of flavor and richness that wasn't there at the beginning. Nice medium finish. Enjoyable

  • Came last in a tasting of 12 Canary Islands wines. It had a rotten character that softened later, but was graphically described by a taster as "if an animal had died". Nose had same unattractive quality, maybe a hint of petroleum.

  • A little less expressive and joyous cf the previous bottle. A little more reductive. Good peppery red fruit with crunch and lift. Bright. ***1/2

  • Gorgeous stuff. Bright light ruby, really vibrant. Lifted mid red fruit with a good dose of cracked black pepper. Light and very drinkable without being inconsequential. Well maybe a little, but only because something this joyful and yet serious seems a little incongruous. The sort of wine that modern Beaujolais should wish it had grown up to be. Balletic with a cheeky smile. The wine, not me. ****

  • Elegant volcanic notes. Pretty and unique wine.

  • Une bouteille au fruit un peu chimique et souffré qui me laisse perplexe, ne m'apparait pas défectueuse mais en toute humilité, je suis incapable d'être catégorique. À revisiter bientôt.

  • Light ruby red, medium+ intensity on the nose with pure red currant, some barnyard smell that quickly blew off, ash, slate, rose petals and something I would describe as the smell of ozon in the air after spring rain. Medium- tannins, medium- body, long finish. Looking forward to see how this will age

  • Delightful clear and fresh fragrance on the nose with red berry fruits, rose hips. Plus a little reductive "stinker" of burnt rubber, fresh earth and wet pumice. The palate is wonderfully fresh, clear and with great aromatic depth. Medium, tight body, very clear and precise, with sparse minerality, lively acidity, cherry pit flavors, red fruits, some white pepper and always that great volcanic stone minerality. Finishes very pure, with a wonderful blend of fine red fruits and a stony volcanic minerality. Remains long on the palate.

  • Opened on Wednesday night to take to an event on Thursday. Gorgeous, light color, Burgundy-ish. Re-tasted Thursday morning. Oof--astringent, fruitless. Took something else to the event, and came back to this on Friday night when the fruit had filled out but it seemed both screechy and jammy--I know, opposites. We didn't bother to finish the bottle.

  • Blinded. Interesting wine. Nothing I usually drink? Great fruit, acidity, lots of volcanic old vine vibes. Structure a bit dominating at the moment. Tasty, but seems like this needs a few years.

  • Really needs food and lots of air

  • Top of the range Envinate. Burgundy-like in nose, color and style. Reminds me a lot of Commando G. Will need some time to soften up and brush up the tannins.

  • The style of this wine is very much my preferred style. Translucent brick red colour. Green bell pepper and white peppercorns crushed and dashed with berry juice on the nose. Herbascious. All kinds of mineral and acid on the palate - hints of black lime. This wine is fantastic.

  • Hypnotic nose of sweet spices - nutmeg, mace, vanilla, cream. Intense acidity, astonishing precision. This is a beauty. A beauty of staggering elegance and purity. People pay shedloads of money for Burgundy that's not dissimilar in structure, balance, weight and form. Such ridiculous restraint and contained power. Mountain streams, Atlantic storms, pure contained passion. Stunning.

  • Like a Pinot noir. Delicate nose of morello cherries with similar replays on the palate. Lithe and lively. Well balanced and super elegant. A beautiful wine

  • Horribly corked.

  • Ethereal, concentration with a lightness and freshness that dances in the mouth. Evolving well - even more elegant than last one.

  • Étonnament plus sombre et plus minéral qu'à ma première rencontre, mais semble avoir perdu en dentelle. 90-91+?

  • I've yet to have a bad wine from Envínate. These guys are almost single-handedly redefining the associations between the words "Spain" and "wine". This is a step up from Benje, and shows (after a brief whiff of reduction on pouring) a bright garnet colour, and lots of spice and tender fruit on the nose. It's light, saline, savoury and crunchy. It has precision and depth in equal measure - sounds contradictory, but it's very much the profile of this terroir: lofty grace and rustic earthiness cohabit seamlessly in the glass. In terms of age, it's still young, and the Burgundian similarities (acidity, lightness, contained power) suggest to me it will develop in complexity and interest for 20 years.

  • Mes un peu simple , charmant, mais un peu simple.
La bouche est superbe par ailleurs, qui appelle la cave...
    90++?

  • 12.0% - Clear, pale & light ruby / clean, pronounced intensity - bing cherry, redcurrant, white pepper, crushed rocks, smoky / dry, high tart acidity, med- tannin, med to light body, pronounced intensity, med+ length. Barely no fruit upon opening aside from tart berries, but with a peppercorn galore. I filled the last glass to sit overnight in Riedel Vinum XL Burgundy and the fruit truly emerged ~20 hours after opening with full air exposure. That was a ~89-90 upon opening, but a 91+ with proper decanting with upside potential. From what I remember the '17 blossomed right upon opening.

  • Limpid ruby with hints of purple and pink rim. After some minutes of reductive notes this shows a medium intense but complex and interesting nose of cherries, game, rose pepper, curry, allspice, roses, umami, bread, plum and adding intensity over time from the opened bottle and time in glass. Full of play. No decant. On the palate this is light, first nearly thin, but adding substance with time staying light yet, but in a positive sense with intensity of scents and flavors. Great balance of fruit, acidity with only slight adstringent grip. Burgundian style. Dangerously animating. This is all about elegance, complexity and lightness. 5/13+/18+/9, -2028. For me best without food on its own. 95+ from Gutiérrez for the WA.

  • Took a good four hours in a wide-based decanter to counter the reduction and let the sweet bouquet peek through. Better in a year but it will still need plenty of air then. If drinking this evening, decant by lunchtime.

  • Light, pale burgundy in color
Funky nose, red fruit, cherries and raspberries, old meat
Light, thin, good acidity, more red fruit, medium-minus finish.
This wine has pretty good bones, and will no doubt age well. It's well built, but not very interesting for me right now. I will open my next bottle in five years. Great QPR (+1 pt)

  • Brought to drink at Oinoscent.
The wine is made of Listan Negro grapes, the 100yo vines were ungrafted, from 2 vineyards 400m and 600m altitude. Each parcel is vinified separately in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts. 100% whole clusters of La Habanera and 20% of San Antonio. Malolactic fermentanion in 600lt oak barrels and 11 months ageing.
The wine was tasted in riedel pinot noir glasses to give it some much needed air.
The wine shows clear pale red color.
The wine shows medium intensity, funk notes, ripe cherries, raspberries and strawberries in the back. There is also a mineral/steely nuance right in the middle.
In the palate, the wine is surprisingly light, with medium intensity of fresh red cherries, high acidity and volcanic intensity, untamed tannins that scream for food and medium finish.
Very interesting but quite young so give it time.

  • Has that yukky smoke/dead yeast nose I find in this producer's reds. Some good fruit.

  • Ethereal and peppery, this is so much fun. Reductive and a little smoky, this element mostly blows off and integrates with all the other stuff. Aromas of peppercorns, blood orange, red plum, strawberry, iron, fennel seed, dry autumn meadow, rosehips, a little roasted and charred something or other.... there's plenty of mystery and intrigue here. Fresh and lively on the palate, light to medium in body, very mineral and herbal, very dry but not so tannic, lots of tart juicy fruit, but gentle acids, subtle satin textured, there is great balance and such character. Lingering notes of blood orange and herbs are delicious, but the clear and present minerality, a pure chorus of rocks, is utterly intoxicating. This is like some kind of sunny red Muscadet. It is awesome.

  • Slow-oak for 3hours.

Very Envinate, very canary. The volcanic influence is obvious. Initially the crushed Peppercorns, smoke, flint is dominating the aromas but as it sits in the glass, the aromas comes to balance and filled with Roses, curry leaves, red fruits. Very complex and airy. This has more structured than the Taganan Tinto 2017 we had last week, a deeper wine. The savoriness goes well with the red fruits and high acidity. At 12%, some might think this will not be able to hold, but in fact it needs time to really opening up and express the complex flavours on the palate. (not power)

  • Pale ruby, raspberry, cherry, chalk, a little earth/leaves, high acidity, med fine grain tannins, bright, fresh, elegant, finesse, med plus finish. Very good wine.

  • Nose: The nose is extremely perfumed and filled with sour red cherries, cracked pepper, roses, spice notes, cranberries, earth tones, crushed rocks, tobacco, and licorice. While complex, there is a lot of finesse and elegance here as well with good depth.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with racy, high acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure is youthful and the feel is slightly on the lighter side of Medium. There is good depth and finesse with sour red cherries, cracked pepper, roses, crushed rocks, earth tones, tobacco, and licorice.

Overall: The more Envinate I drink, the more I really enjoy the lineup. This probably could use around 3 years to really grow into itself and possibly add a little weight on the palate. Still, this is lovely and a wine that is just fun and unique.

  • This has become perhaps my favorite red from Envinate's Canaries line up. The other ratings are on point. I've liked this in every vintage that I've had (maybe this is the 3rd or 4th). There is a distinct volcanic and perhaps chalky underpinning and a bit of tannic grip. Light color, expressive even through the reduction. I expect it to show a little more flash tonight (it's on Coravin but I think Coravin helps with younger wines). Stylistically, perhaps somewhere in between the flashiness of Borja Perez (Ignios Origines) and the silkiness of Suertes del Marques. But splitting hairs because all three of these projects put out truly exciting wines.

  • Just like the 2017, this a very Burgundian wine, elegant and supple, pure and refined, delicate (12% ABV) and all about finesse, effortlessly expressive, transparent and precise, very good length.

  • Bright and clear, light translucent ruby. A little reductive, cranberry and fresh chopped mushroom. Light tangy palate, sour fruits and light but compact tannins.

  • Reductive smell that blows away quickly. Nice redfruited aroma with a stony minerality and black pepper. Concentrated, redfruited with strawberries, red currant and especially cranberries. Very intense and fresh. Will improve with age, but very good now.
