2009 Abreu Cappella

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

98 Points

Saturday, October 10, 2020 - Lunch with Brad Grimes. No formal tasting notes. This was my wow wine of the trip after tasting so many newly released 18's. So balanced. Very complex with primary fruit still evolving. 98+
08 Thorevilos
09 Cappella
10 R.H.

6/11/2021 8:49:00 PM - I had an '07 Howell Mtn about 16 mo ago that drank like it was a '12 or '13.....still such strong primary fruit.....very well made.

6/18/2021 10:41:00 PM - Awesome line up and agree 100% with your impressions further validated after my 1 2 punch of ‘09 and ‘10 Thorevilos Capella. Would love to do a high end Napa tasting with 20 people, 15 baller wines all blind.

    My line up would be:
    Screaming eagle
    Screaming eagle second flight
    Harlan
    Scarecrow
    Abreu Thorevilos
    Abreu Las Posadas
    Abreu Capella
    Mag 7
    MacDonald
    Eisele Vineyards
    Memento Mori Dr Crane
    Dana Estates Lotus
    Colgin - pick two
    Kinsman - Rhad
    Plus one more

Everyone brings one of the bottles and we get to work. The reason we have more woolen than wine as someone(s) may need to chip in for the screaming.

    I can host.

6/19/2021 10:00:00 PM - Followed of course by a BMF Bordeaux tasting:
    Petrus
    Le Pin
    Ausone
    Lafluer
    Cheval Blanc
    Lafite Rothschild
    Mouton Rothschild
    Haut Brion
    Margaux
    Vieux Chateau Certan
    Plus one of other

THEN A FACE OFF BETWEEN THE TOP 5 Bordeaux and top 5 Napa- epic. We would pick the best vintage individually for each wine so they are all epic and aged correctly.

11/18/2021 9:17:00 PM - I tasted the 09 Capella with Brad as well. One of the best wines I’ve had this year besides a 14 promontory

11/19/2021 2:02:00 PM - Yes! Fantastic wine. We were lucky and had a Chard and Sauv Blanc he made. We were also super lucky to have the Las Posadas and Madrona 21 from the fermentation tank. Fermentation had finished a few days prior, and the wines were superb. Both were great, but the 21 Las Posadas was ethereal. The finish is dry due no oak, but the Las Posadas is a 100 point wine guaranteed.

11/20/2021 6:12:00 AM - I tasted some Kinsman wines at this stage and it was just something else. What a cool experience! Thanks for sharing notes on your Abreu visit.

    All the best. MJP
