Ski trip - Four wino familes; 2/17/2023-2/20/2023 (WISP Resort): Expressive nose displaying deeply toned black fruit, blackberry concentrate, ink, licorice, strong black pepper, clove, smoke, lavender, spice spices and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, finely layered concentrated black fruit, silky and weightless, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long deeply toned black fruit driven finish with black pepper at they end. This remains quite youthful. It reminds me a good vintage Cheval Blanc a bit.

Expressive with deep dark merlot fruit, spices and some pepper. Very dense and long with a nice Tuscan dry finish. Still young with noticeable tannins but still very good now.

Occational dinner group; Il Caberlot tasting. (Mei Wah): In the bouquet earth, herbs, dark and red berries, autumn forest, vanilla and chocolate. On the palate a little less friendly tannin than the 2000, good acidity, a bit bell pepper and the tannin is still a bit green and sticky.
Nose with blackcurrants, noticeable salty liquorice aromas, ripe berries and oak. Powerful concentration on the palate, dark berries, some sweetness, and well integrated oak. Highly modern style. Rather young but approachable now, but should probably be drunk in this young state. 90 p. From magnum, which I believe is the only format this wine is available in.

Il Caberlot vertical – during WWS 2012 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Perhaps the biggest and the most concentrated of the vertical. Once again big and jammy yet fresh, crème de cassis, crushed blackberries, black fruits in general, limestone and flint. Excellent concentration, unctuous, dense yet round, silky and airy. A great wine with great future.

Slow Wine Guide 2012 (Release tasting) (Metropolitan Pavilion): The nose showed red berries, spice, pepper, herbs and candle wax. On the palate, it was rich and focused with wild berries and herbs. With time in the glass it widened and turned to riper fruit tones. The finish was long and enjoyable with a hint of this wine’s tannic structure.

Massive, multi-layered and very intriguing, The 2007 Il Caberlot is a truly interesting acquaintance with a nose full of morellos, mocha, spice and a subtle tone of sage. The palate is tannic but still full-bodied revealing the need for ageing. The acidity is very appealing and accompanies the other components of the wine very well... This is a lovely effort which I would love to have in my cellar. (tasted from 750 ml sample bottle).

This is a refined, utterly lacy and elegant expression of Caberlot, with nuanced complexity, though I am put off by presence of a green note in the aroma. Tasted at The World Wine Symposium.
