1.5h air. Medium purple color. Very dusty aromas of blackberry, raspberry, chocolate, bay leaf & a hint of pepper. Dark fruit and dust on entry, medium-full body. Soft, with supple tannins. Well integrated at this stage, just lacking a bit of acidity to add structure and bite.

Drinking beautifully right now, and hell of a value. We just visited the winery this week so I pulled this bottle out at home, my only one. But don’t worry, more are on the way from the winery.
Medium to dark garnet in color. On the nose there is rich red and blue fruit, along with earth and black pepper. Palate is medium bodied, rich and deep. Plenty going on. In fact, it’s drink perfectly right now. Excellent balance between fruit, earth and tannin. Finish is on the fast end of medium. Really pleasantly surprised. Look forward to getting my incoming Copain!

Deep, extracted purple. Crushed flowers, minerals, dusty plum nose. Finely grippy on the palate, with cascading layers of roasted blue fruits, powdery cocoa balanced with acidity. Medium weight in the mouth, superfine tannins, some sediment in the bottle. Amazing bottle, unbelievable value, showcasing the best of what Guthrie was doing at the time. Sourced from the winery.

Wow, this Calif Syrah is quite delicious. Plum skin, earthy soil, asphalt, and red cherry fruit. The tannins are beautiful, giving structure and tension, next to the nicely supporting acidity. This is really a gem of a wine, and quite the opposite of the bruiser Syrah's that are all too typical in California. Gorgeous finish goes on for 30+ secs. Incredible wine for the $22 I paid!

Purple ruby. No fading at rim. Initial aromas of rhubard, followed by allspice and clove. Some VA initially, specifically ethyl acetate, that resolved with air and time. Mint, especially wintergreen, aromas and flavors, along with more traditional Syrah flavors of roasted red fruit and meat. Medium weight and tactile in the mouth, with fine sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Sourced from the winery.

The appearance of this wine is clear, with a medium ruby core, with almost no fade to the rim. The tears stain the side of the glass a beautiful ruby red. The wine is clean, the nose is in a developing stage, showing med(+) intensity aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and charcoal. On the palate, the wine is dry, with med(+) body, med(+) acidity, and med alcohol (13.5%). The tannins are med(+) at this point, and are quite drying and a bit astringent. The flavors are of med(+) intensity, and include slightly tart black cherry, raspberry, licorice, and minerality, leading into a med(+) length finish. The wine is very well balanced, and would be excellent with food based on its crisp acidity. It is a very good quality wine, drinking quite nicely now, but will improve over the next 6-8 years or so.

On the nose I got some soy, olives, some smokiness and black fruit. The palate is full of blackberries and the oak is not too prevalent, which is in line with my preference. Decent finish length, not much spice throughout, which I usually expect in the Syrah based wines.

Opened 2 nights ago so it's had plenty of ox time. Listed alc 13.5%. The aromatics on the first night were full of bacon fat and florals, less of them now but still present today, along with some whole cluster signature and crushed rocks. The palate is about flashy blueberry fruit, with some shading of black raspberry--both come together and reflect a more forward, more riper side. Medium weighted and a bit more new world-like than say the Hawks or Halcon, absent here of the usual Copain minerality, tapenade, spice and acid that is a signature of the Copain single vineyard syrahs. A good near term drinker, as the acid is not all that high and the fruit is direct and more flamboyant for Copain.

Popped and poured, consumed over 3 or 4 hours. Nose shows soy, olives, blackberry and oak. Taste is fruit forward blackberry, olive, tar all in balance with sneaky tannins bringing up the rear. Missing that meaty peppery flavor I like in my Syrah but overall, can't complain about the price point.

Purple. Some basic dark fruit elements on the nose. The palate is grapey and simple. Kinda thin and not interesting at all. If this is a new "style", I'd rather have overripe fruit and new oak.

awkward with popn pour on night one. It was deeply colored and floral with a tart acidity ut did not match well wiht roast chicken. Night two: drank solo and it had a muck brighter fruit and the acidity was playing a fresh supporting role. Inky color, blackberries and pencil shavings on the nose. Used the venturi for immediate consumption and found it to be a very interesting Syrah with muted fruit and a pleasant minerality. PnP'ed. What a nice wine for the price. Deep purple in the glass and a nose of dark fruit and even a little chocolate. Good acidity on the palate and the tannins were in check for a young wine. Dark purple color; smooth dark bramble fruit (not jammy or overdone) with medium mouthfeel and light tannins; this is absolutely delicious for the price, assuming you like the more elegant, less fruit-bomb style of CA syrah.

Drank over two days at cellar temperature. Both days, I enjoyed it more as it warmed closer to room temperature.
Day one, dark color, the nose is alive with olives and brush and fruit. Has ample dark fruit, a refreshing acidity and a smooth mouth feel with fine tannin and a medium finish. A bit primary, but the balance makes up for it.
Day two, this is not dead yet, with less obvious fruit but additional olive and leather notes. The mid palate has become more thin/flat and the tannin is largely absent, which to me indicates a low potential for aging.
I love the style, so drink these now while bigger wines sleep in the cellar.

wow this was good, and getting better... and I am sure it was not allowed to show its best. Shipment arrived on Friday (cross country), popped and poured on Saturday, followed for about an hour and a half... the last bit was really showing very well. Beautiful color, nice herbal notes, dark fruits, but not stewy at all, touch of white pepper.. great lifting finish. Score reflects the QPR

Dark purple. Beautiful floral lift on the nose. Seems to have a slightly confectioned quality to the fruit, though I would not call this wine big/jammy (neither would I call it elegant). Lacks some of the meatiness/black pepper that I like in Wells' other syrahs, and this bottle is also a bit lean on the finish. Good for the money, but I recall the '07 and even some of the older vintages of the now-defunct l'hiver being more to my liking. My guess, however, is that this will flesh out w/ a few months in bottle, and the nose on this bottle is really quite something. Improved with aeration, and was showing its best on day 3. These wines age surprisingly well, and I still have some '00 and '02 l'hivers that are better now than at release.

I have loved the Roussane and was persuaded to try their reds and got this as part of a mixed case. This is my first bottle and it was a good impression. I understand this is entry level for them but the density visually and on the tongue is above the price range paid. It was a glossy purple and turning more to a vivid red at the rim. The aroma led off with a citrus zest and had a white floral note that I can not be more specific about. The palate was full up front with a red fruityness and some citrus vs coriander note finishing with a peppery zing. I really had no expectation but found this to be outstanding. Finish has some acid to refresh and is at least medium. If you do points then go 5+12+17+7 = 91
remained solid on day 2!

Though I didn't pay too much attention to this wine, it was a bit bigger, darker and a bit riper than I was expecting. Still, pretty attractively structured, though I'm not sure I'll go back to the well for more.

Terrific wine for the price. Vibrant deep young purple color, black fruit - balanced, not jammy, not overly restrained, firm structure with medium acidity, fine persistent tanins, long finish. Very good, and will improve.

This is great for the price. Wild berry flavors, fine tannins and plenty of acidity for lift. Coats the palate with little sense of weight. Some vanilla on a mostly mocha finish. Nice depth for this price point. Exceeds the Pinot for QPR.

Jammy young wine with great viscosity but not the definition I expect with Copain at least from their vineyard designated wines. Enjoyable but limited
