Fresh, meaty and complex, with a little bit of funk as well. Still youthful but showing nice notes of maturity as it seems to be entering prime drinking time.

Ah quelle bouteille!

From small bottle from Zak. Tasted double blind. Day 2. Exotic nose, maybe some VA. savory and umami. Marzipan and cherry fruit. This is very perfumed and has some age on it. Maybe a bit of soy, a bit of wood/cedar. I go back and forth between sorrel hermitage and maybe a Bordeaux. Now getting a little herbal. With more time the herbal adds some greenness. Very similar on the palate. It’s exotic with red cherries and marzipan some soy or beef Jerky or something. Very lively - a little high toned like the nose. Good acid tons of flavor. Finish is dark cherry and VA and soy.
PnP at Taj Campton Place. The last bottle of their stash; our MS informed us that this was waking up after a long sleep. Initially she needed some cajoling; some deft handling in the carafe to make sure there was some air but then did she dance up these aromas, these spices that take you to the rhone. Combined with some spicy indian paneer and lamb; it makes me believe even more; Syrah and Spicy Indian food are meant to be! Try one.

An evening at Bar Boulud with my wife. Ordered this from the list, pop and pour into a decanter. Dark, saturated purplish-red, moving to pinkish-red at the rim of the glass. On the nose, a lovely mix of cedary aged notes, crushed blueberries, and fresh ground pepper, which all carried through to the palate. Smooth, well-integrated tannins on the long finish. It might get better with a couple more years, it might not, but if I were you and I had some of these in the cellar, now is the time.

Dark. Lifted, blueberry and tar with woodsmoke/char. Solid, quite dense, rich flavours, black fruit essence, violets/blueberry, intense tar/licorice with smokey cooked meats, very distinctive.

Despite being a lesser vintage and Bernard Fleury's own negative assessment, this was truly enjoyable. I had one bottle in Nov 06 and this was my last bottle. It had rounded out nicely with no edges. It's deep purple color with aromas of violet, licorice, tobacco and black fruit were seductive. I hated to see this bottle go. Here's proof again that in the right hands and poor vintage can be good value and enjoyable.

There is an confusing array of Faurie bottlings especially in the US (some super oaky ones too). This is the French "Assembelage" which I believe is Greffieux and Bessards but am not sure. Also there is no way to tell the SVs versus Assembelage from the labels. One has to know the Lot #s on the bottles. Anyhow this is deep red and shows ripe fruit and a meaty nose as does the palate. Graphite and red fruit combo. Quite smooth and seemingly low acid. Easy to drink and good complexity.

Liverpool Offline (New Brighton): Served blind. Very young inky black. Gorgeous nose. Deep plummy fruit, chocolatey tobacco. Something says Vacqueyras to me. Lovely attack. Full and rich and fruity. Incredible depth and concentration. Excellent and Wine of the Night.

I will not rate or comment as an odd bottle. When I try another will report back. Some VA and brett but the latter is not uncommon in this wine.
