Excellent bottle. Again decanted half of it on the first night and drank the the other half on the second. Ready and open with dried cherry, cranberry, graphite and wet soil on the nose. More dried fruit, raisin, bell pepper, autumn leaves, pencil shavings, leather and soil on the palate. Present acidity, good tension and good balance. The wine held together perfectly and comfortably and was drinking beautifully over two days

A well-balanced Brunello. Not too acidic, zero floral notes (very glad about that) but also not “modern” in the Parker sense. Light bricking. Probably the best of the 2006’s I’ve tried (Ucceleria, La Serena, Casanova Di Neri and a few others). Fresh with still slightly dusty tannins, nose is a great example of the varietal. Stored in Eurocave since release. An enjoyable wine with maybe a few more years to go. Certainly worth trying now if it’s still lurking around your cellar.

My last bottle - and drinking just as well as my previous note a few months back. This doesn’t feel tired at all, so I’m going to conclude that my earlier, not as positive tasting notes were just a case of me consuming the wine before it was ready. Live and learn 🍷.

Delicious and drinkable Brunello. Fruit flavors are on the darker side (blueberry, dark cherry and blackberry) for Sangiovese but the wine itself is not especially full-bodied or extracted (which I might have expected from the producer’s reputation and the dark color of the wine). Good acidity and tannin is still noticeable but not overwhelming. Absolutely no sign of decline or even advanced aging…no bricking (which other notes here have experienced). Ultimately a lovely and “correct” Brunello. Quite drinkable, but ultimately not exciting. Just “quite pleasant”. I don’t see this improving significantly but it seems like it would keep fine for another 5-10 years….

Beautiful nose of dried cherry, leather and moss. Upon opening vivid tannins so half of the bottle went to decanter. After about 3 hours the wine became very soft, the tannins well integrated just leaving slight dryness in the finish. Nose and palate remain very intriguing with notes of dark cherry, bramble, raisin, autumn leaves, leather and soil. Maybe rather no decant at this stage and maybe there will be more unfolding in time overall. Day 2 still soft in its appearance with beautiful and profound flavour profile. We will see where this goes. Good persistence for now, in any case very delicious and well made.

Coravin - Although delicious and enticing, this wine is beginning to lose intensity, softening a bit. Deep, dark colors, with flavors of dark berries, ripe plums, spices, oranges.

Bought on release and kept in climate controlled cellar. Perfect cork when popped. Color of wine from a thin-skinned grape, cherry-red and appropriate level of bricking and watery rim. Black cherry, plum, leather, baking spices and vanilla on the nose. AS the wine opened I get tobacco, raw mushroom and tomato paste also. Fine and furry tannins on the palate. Plenty of acidity, Christmas cake and ripe plum (close to sweet prune) with astringent finish. This is the last of 06's and definitely on its last legs - drink now.

This just might be the best bottle I've had of this particular wine - which of course does lead one to question whether or not I've been drinking them too young?
Red and black fruit pretty evenly mixed on the nose. Energetic and expansive on the palate, with good acidity and just a touch of acerbity on the finish - truly in the zone tonight.

No real note but in a really good place right now and drinking beautifully. Opened 2 hours before dinner, threw in decanter for 1 hour, and enjoyed over 2+ hours. No signs of tiring; still vibrant and energetic. Still has years of life left.

Decanted for 30 minutes, but the second glass at 1 hour was better, and the last glass at 2 hours was the best as the tannins were completely integrated and the wine was "smoother" and "silkier". Clear light to medium purple. Red fruit and earth on the nose. On the medium bodied palate there were lots of bright red and dark red fruits, some earth and spice. The acidity was juicy but balancing. A fine example of a 15 year old Brunello that can possibly hold for a few more.

Beautiful ruby color. Not a very expressive nose, just some cherry and spices. Quite juicy and mineral on the palate with cherries and notes of sous-bois. Bright acidity and a vegetal and slightly chewy component. A hint of wet cardboard on the finish (minor cork taint?). It was pairing well with pasta and tomato sauce, but did not pair well with a salty wild boar speck that made the wine taste bitter and metallic. Drink now - 2025. - 89 points

Slow ox for one hour. Really disappointing bottle. It seemed to be aging rapidly. It also had a little stewed fruit characteristic. I wondered whether this might have been a bad bottle. I’ve got a few more so will find out in due course.

In one of Bob H’s notes he said he would probably drink his remaining bottles sooner than later, so I figured I should open one of mine and give the wine a go since Ann was making Lasagna. We also opened a 2013 Nada Fiorenzo Manzola with it.
This wine showed darker fruit tones, with a considerable earthiness after some air. It wasn’t what I would call mushroom, leather, soil, or something I normally enjoy, but something a bit more funky. Despite that, it was enjoyable with the meal. I will probably follow Bob’s advice, as I worry this will become too funky and dirty for my taste.

It’s interesting - this is the 4th time I’ve had this wine this year, and from my notes I seem to be liking it more and more. I just had a glass of the Pelagrilli and this wine has another gear to it. I’ve paired it up with some leftover mushroom risotto for lunch, and that dish really brings out the earthiness in the wine. Drinking well, although I will probably plan to consume my remaining bottles sooner as opposed to later.

Actually a great nose when we open the wine - but when we had the wine a couple of hours later we did not get a lot from the nose apart from some cherries. On the palette you get more cherries (also sour cherries) and some cranberries - medium tannins and maybe medium plus acidity - the big problem for this wine and why we are ending on solid 91 is acidity - that is affecting the overall balance of the wine.

Not bad - according to my notes I had a bottle of this about 5 months ago that I thought was okay, but mentioned a lack of acidity. Not the case with this bottle, so I guess a little bottle variation at play here.
Red and black fruit and menthol on the nose - probably at peak, so drink or hold.

Great nose with black plum. Medium-bodied with supporting acidity. The tannin is still present but I like it for framing the palette. I think the wine is at a good spot and probably should be enjoyed before the fruits fade. Excellent with homemade pizza tonight.

My third one of these over the last year. Easily the best. Decanted for just under an hour. Dark cherry, Smokey, savory, light to medium mid body, superb balance between tannins, acid, and spice on an almost bone dry finish:

Decanted for an hour before starting to drink- should have gone another hour or two as it opened beautifully over the evening. Subtle nose of lavender, plum & raspberry - all flavors that really opened in the glass. Nice deep deep dark fruit and still with a thread of rankin through its core. A few years left to this but the earth tones are becoming more pronounced.

Dark garnet in color with ever so slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, herbs, notes of anise, spices, sandalwood, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, dried herbs, mushrooms & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing but even at 13 years of age, it will continue to develop and benefit from additional aging as well if cellared properly.

Clean fruit oriented towards raspberry/tart cherry, sulphur/earth on the nose. Obviously a well made wine, yet I struggle to care. I guess I'm more of a Piedmont kind of guy. This is a good wine, in a good place. No need to rush though.

A little better than last time tried.. Probably well made, but I guess the bottom line is that I just don't care that much for Brunello. Dark purple in color. A palate of mostly sour cherry with earth, olive and some wood, but not tannic. An ok wine, but not enough fruit to my liking.

New world style Brunello. 14.5% abv. Ripe, rich, flashy, deep but much more fruit driven than earth driven. I look forward to seeing how it evolves over the next 10 years

Very tannic on open. Poured through venturi into decanter, waited 30 minutes, then poured through venturi into glass. Much better. On the powerful side of brunello, this is very tasty with good complexity, but I don't think it is profound enough to warrant the critic's scores. Try waiting, as I feel like this could evolve much more and go another 10 years. 92-93.

Translucent Ruby in the glass; ripe red fruits on the nose.
Medium-bodied, not as much acidity as I normally look for - this is a riper style of Brunello, and while I find the wine reasonably balanced and acceptable, I don't know that I would identify this as Sangiovese if it were served to me blind.

Fully accessible/open now, this continued to unfold during the course of a two hour dinner. Med>Full body, with medium+ complexity. Seems to stress power, but does so with good balance; fruits are a nice mixture of red and black. Not so much a sense of place, and no overt telegraphing of its variety, but nonetheless, this succeeds as more than just delicious as its core is pure, the acidity, just enough. If I had another, I'd revisit in 3-5 years, at which time I'd expect that this will have moved off center, and into some early tertiary enjoyment. Well cellared bottles should go another 10-12 years with ease. . I opened this for some family members that had never had a BdM before, they were quite taken by this wine, and only slightly less so for me. 14,0% abv., EtOH and tannins are resolved. Easily recommended
Decanted for 1 hour. Slightly reserved on initial taste. Seemed a little closed. Drank over 2 hours and it opened up very nicely with floral overtones. Pleasant balanced wine with good longevity on the finish. A very wonderful Brunello.

Translucent ruby in the glass with a primary, red-fruited nose.
Pretty open at this point, with adequate acidity and good persistence on the finish. This was popped and poured from a case I bought on release - not bad right now, with just a bit of unresolved tannin on the back end, so I guess there might be some additional upside here as well. IMO, this wine is a modernist take on Brunello.

Just fine, but more reserved aromatically than I would expect from an 06 Brunello. Still tight and tannic on the palate, drink or hold, though I don't think the wine is going to improve.
Decanted for 3 hours, drank over the next 1.5 hours. Slightly floral, soft fruit, tannins tamed but a bit unmemorable. Decanted too long? Drink window is sooner than critics windows.

Siro Pacenti Winemaker Dinner with Giancarlo Pacenti (La Pizza Fresca Ristorante NYC): More primary, ripe and more alcoholic that either '04 or '01. Sweeter overall too, more of the wild red fruit profile, softer texture and less mineral. Tannic wine though the tannins are fine grained and mild. Probably needs another couple of years to shed some of the primary characteristics.

Weekly tasting group #208; Old world 2006; an overview. (@ VD): The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows red and dark berries, some green herbs and spices. On the palate red and dark berries, herbs, marzipan, good acidity and round, but firm tannin. Overall a firm and elegant wine which will improve with some more time in the bottle. 2019+? For this evening 90+, but when the bouquet opens up this could be a bit higher.

PNP which was a mistake. Closed off for a while, never fully got there and eclipsed by an only slightly older 2004 Valdicava. Either decant or wait. My gut here is to wait. But not sure it has what is needed.

We liked this bottle. Decanted 1 hour. Medium+ bodied, dark fruit. Drinking very nicely. Doesn't have the soy sauce flavor of some brunellos. 92 or 93. Some other reviews suggest fruit may be fading...certainly isn't 'fruity' but also feels like tannins can still break down a little bit and it should probably drink well for a few years.

Looking through the notes, opinions appear to be all over the shop. Has this undergone some wild evolution in the bottle or do the ratings reflect a wide range of expectations for this bottle?
Poured a taste after opening and the first impression was sour cherries. Emphasis on sour. Not a confidence builder. Decanted for four hours. Served with homemade pasta and a Tuscan-style (no tomato) pork & veal sugo. The sour disappeared and I got lucky with the match.
One word definition: Restrained. I would consider this a relatively old-world style that's built for food. The fruit is all cherry and red berry - not a great deal of complexity here. A lot of acid - really too much for the level of fruit today. Tannins come into play on the finish but don't overwhelm.
Notes from '11 suggest there was a lot fruit once. More recent notes indicate the wine is closed and suggest giving it time for the fruit to come to the fore. Seems a little late in the game for this bottle to be in its "stupid phase," so I'm guessing that it's just fading. Not a bad bottle today, just nothing special. Might give it 6 months before I open another on the off-chance there's a resurrection, but I'm betting it's past its prime.

I agree with others who think it needs more time. No obvious flaws, but very tight and subdued. Minerals and earth on the nose and palate, but no fruit at the moment. Popped and poured which may have been a mistake. some tannin at first which disappeared over time.

Decanted for 2 hours on the first night and the wine was still closed and unapproachable. After rebottling and recorking the wine I made a second attempt on the following night with another decant for 2 hours. The wine still seemed closed and reluctant although there were at least fruity hints of cherry and once the tannins integrate better this will have a smooth mouthfeel. My score is based on potential and I will leave this wine a year, if not two, before trying again.

750ml, slow-ox for 1.5 hours; Bright red, medium transparency, no bricking of note. Nose of bright cherries with a pleasureable bit of sourness, aromatic herbs/floral notes. Flavors of intensely bright, slightly sour cherries, herbs, spice, forest floor. Medium-light texture with fine tannins still evident. In a good spot right now but certainly has the goods to go another 5 or more yrs.
A fair amount of mixed reviews thus far, but my experience was quite favorable. With just 2 hours aeration, this was good to go. Just exiting a backward phase, perhaps, but showing excellent typicity and purity throughout. Bright cherry, earth, plum and herbs. Structured, even-keeled, and very much for the traditionalist. I'd love to revisit this in 5 and 10 years hence. highly recommended, drink thru 2026.

Drank this blind at WWS Ned Sangiovese tasting, along with Pacenti's 2001 brunello and 2010 Pian Dell'Orino Rosso. The 2001 had a very generous floral nose. Medium garnet color. I found it quite tannic, with lots of sour black cherries on the palate. Very vibrant acidity, very nice earthiness and, though it softened as it sat in the glass, I guessed this to be the 2006 (wrongly) mainly due to its apparent youth. (I should have looked more closely & would've noticed the sediment in the glass as a tip-off). A wonderful wine which was surprisingly youthful. The 2006 had a far more funky, and interesting nose, was a darker ruby color and showed some bricking at the edges (all of which led me to believe, again wrongly, that this was the 2001). Extremely earthy & herbal, lots of forest floor, mushrooms, and tertiary qualities exuded from the glass. Soft tannins with nicely integrated fruit, good structure, long finish with a definite rustic character. I loved this wine. The 2010 Rosso was easy to ID: very floral nose, with lots of sweet cherries emanating from the glass. A fairly 1-dimensional, straightforward wine that had an oaky, international style. An enjoyable enough bottle but way out of its league in this blind flight. 89 score

Wow. Q a strong nose of spice, red fruit, herbs. The bouquet faded a bit and after an hour it's going back into a slumber. On the palate the fruit is q reserved and tannins pretty overpowering at this stage. This drinks like a Barolo to me and I would like to try the wine on it's 20th Birthday. I can see why it got some good reviews.

My first 94 pt. wine. Gorgeous! Beautiful. Almond, perfecltly integrated tannins, chocolate, sweet, fresh, elegant, perfect already right now. Although CT reviewes are misleading I think this is a perfect Brunello of a perfect vintage. I usually prefer Super Tuscans (Percarlo, Flaccianello), but since 1999 I visited Montalcino on a regaluar basis with Uccelliera loving the most. I remember visiting the Siro Pacenti vineyard in 2000 aksing for the 1997 release. I was told that this one has been sold completely already. So until today I never tasted a Siro Pacenti. I bought it yesterday and tried it today after a beautiful Canon la Gaffeliere Bordeaux. But waht can I say? How can a 2006 Brunello beat a 1998 Canon la Gaffeliere Bordeaux? Easily. Falling in love with this one. Never discuss this one before you have tried it. Will try to get some more from this wine shop in Essen, Germany. 55€

Brunello 2006 Horisontal Tasting: Nose: very funky, compact, cabbage, coffee, bonfire. Palate: Just extreme!! Extracted and somehow feels constructed with an almost unnatural feel to it. Color of wine from a thin-skinned grape, cherry-red and appropriate level of bricking and watery rim.

Great nose with black plum. Medium-bodied with supporting acidity. The tannin is still present but I like it for framing the palette. I think the wine is at a good spot and probably should be enjoyed before the fruits fade. Excellent with homemade pizza tonight.

After rebottling and recorking the wine I made a second attempt on the following night with another decant for 2 hours. My score is based on potential and I will leave this wine a year, if not two, before trying again.

89 score

On the palate the fruit is q reserved and tannins pretty overpowering at this stage. This drinks like a Barolo to me and I would like to try the wine on it's 20th Birthday. I can see why it got some good reviews.

Not rated. Too young by several years. Doubt it will be worth the money based on first impression.

Opend for two hours and drank with nice meat. Easy to drink, almonds, nicely integrated, modern style. However, after a very nice old Bordeaux a bit light on the palate.

dark red-black, elegant noble aroma of ripe earthy cherries, round tannins, balanced acidity & bitterness, complex, savory, rich, very good aftertaste.

Well built wine but it does seem a little unstructured.
Not really impressed.. A wine that simply feels overdone!

Big but balanced. Lots of structure with tar, roses and spices. Give this some time.

Garnet colour, plummy ripe fruit on the nose, something strange like plastic?? Not overly complex, noticeably alcoholic, overdone, not for me. Average.

Healthy red-cherry. Ripe cherry with nuances of spice, subdued. Palate is balanced. "Precision and clarity". Powerful, plenty of spice, fine and ripe tannins coating the palate, warm, very tight. Long. 2006 Brunello di Montalcino tasting at Divino Tuscany

A bit jammy, but nice overall. Needs more time in the bottle.
