Perfect seal on a very sound cork. Garnet colour - bright but bricking up around the edge. Nose is quite muted - earthy with a definite hint of very fresh oyster mushroom - perhaps an early autumnal vibe overall? Real purity on the palate with ripe strawberry and sour red cherry. Pronounced streak of elegant salinity with silky smooth tannins and a little green vegetal kick towards the end of a long finish. Last of a bottle of 12 and much improved on my last note 2 years ago. Looking through the notes made by myself over the past 10 years and those made by other Cellartrackers there is a clear element of bottle variation in this vintage. Fortunately this bottle is one of the blessed!

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Wimps - Racine (La Trompette): At the risk of stating the obvious, this was a 2009 village Morey from Dujac - just as it should be. Somewhat austere but a purity there and some length. A bit lost in the company but very good for what it is.

Closure very clean. Nice bright garnet with a slight brick around the edge. A narrow clear rim but not execessive given the age. Not the most expressive nose - perhaps a slight savoury note. Palate is still in the fruit phase albeit rather dilute. Soft tannins on the finish dominate over the fruit. Overall perhaps not a wine to keep much longer?

This is the last bottle of 5. This bottle has definitely peaked and is past optimal drinking, although still enjoyable. The full, earthy aromas of dark fruit of earlier bottles have evolved into hint of dried cherry and balsamic; light body but still smooth mouthfeel; drink up.

Early drinking window and really needs some air to open up. Medium body and starting to brick at the rim. Some dark cherry and raspberry fruit, a little fine tannin gives it a bit of texture, decent acid, especially for a warmer year which doesn’t really make itself felt. There’s a decent savoury finish to cap a good wine off. It’s not going to fall over any time soon, but I’m less sure that it’s got too much more upside. If you’ve got a few definitely time to start drinking them.

Young, but in a really good spot right now, and everything you'd want from Dujac MSD. Gorgeous lifted nose that has intense, appealing stem-driven herb and spice. The palate is full bodied and ripe, though very approachable and seamless. Ready to enjoy now though should hold for a decade+

Rustic and reduction dominates the nose - after some time mushroom, stewed dark fruit, sous bois come out. Medium acidity, shallow mid-palate, fine grained tanins - ripe strawberry, potting soil, gym sock, pomegranate syrup.

Dark mature red. Initially balsamic, with a half hour in the stems a lovely soft gentle nose of strawberries, red berries, gentle spice, heathland, forest floor, limestone. Palate initially quite tannic, rocky mineralite. Following 4 hours slow ox considerable darkening on nose and palate, olive tapenade, dark humid earth, iron, leather, iodine, saline, masculine in a sweaty way, which is an interesting contrast to the quite pretty, feminine way it all started off...

Opened a 3rd bottle over last several yrs -- it's still within an early drinking window and took >1 hour to show additional aromas and complexity; earthy, black cherry, fine persistent tannins that make me think this can last several more yrs but wonder if it will improve.

Assez classique pour le millésime sauf dans sa finale légèrement chaleureuse et végétale. Demande du temps encore. Tout compte fait, les vins des millésimes chauds me déçoivent plus souvent qu'ils me surprennent mais celui ci est pas mal. 89-90+

was favoured by all as the best of three. However, students were not sure in blind tasting whether it comes from Champagne or elsewhere. Bold and complete wine even from the village level appellation. Forest strawberries and raspberries.

Side by side with 09 Rivers Marie Summa OV. Both showed well and just as you'd like. The Dujac is more stern and still quite young. With air the nose gives up alluring stem-filled black and red cherry. The palate is perfectly balanced and well concentrated for a Village wine in this vintage. Great herb, stem and spice complexity.

Dujac MSD vertical - the second oldest bottle of the vertical. Noticeably fruitier and darker than the 2002, this bottle was a classy MSD that was very much an adoloscent, taking about 90 minutes for the aromas to truly bloom and to put on weight. tannis were buffered by the abundant fruit and the acid was nicely holding everything together (not lacking, as many critics say of the 09). drink this if one enjoys fruit in pinot, but, to my tastes, still some years away from prime time.

Perfect now. Straight out of bottle this has a deep and sweet nose, still with the typical Dujac matchstick (too much sulfur during bottling). But also roses and wet earth. The palate is so typical for Morey, deep, sweet, tannic and quite rustic. Not unlike a small Barolo, but sweeter and more velvety. Great village wine for sure.

On first opening, the nose was beautiful, aromatic with lavender - promising as a classic Burgundy, but the palate was thin and flat. It eventually opened up over 2 hours, evolved to more anise, licorice, with lingering floral aromatics. I think it's at the beginning of the drinking window and could cellar another 5-10 years.

Drank over several days with one week on the Coravin; color is dense and dark opaque red; nose is somewhat muted, but ripe cooked fruit, hint of forest floor, earthy; palate is consistent with concentrated ripe cooked cherry fruit, earth, stone, dusty - I think too young, possibly a bit shut down but will be great in 5 years. The finish is med-long. Agree with earlier tasting notes that we should expect more from this producer -- and I think it will develop with more time in the bottle.

Has opened up considerable since 2 years ago. It only needs 1 hour in decanter to show its nose. Dark fruit, earth, true to Gevrey and Morey end of Pinot spectrum. Clean entry, sizzling acidity and some soft tannic bite. Lovely and easy to drink!

Pinot Around the World with Gillian Ballance MS (SF Wine Center): Pale ruby to a crimson rim. Reductive - strong rubber that eventually calmed down. Burnt toast, black pepper, toasted papad. Ripe but reductive on the nose. On the palate this opens up with truffle, savory red cherry, dark mushroom, damp earth, damp forest leaves, slight new oak - well integrated spice and earthy toasted wood. Classical Burgundy structure. -medium body -medium alcohol -medium plus acid (strong, but not quite high) -medium tannins Score: around 9

A fairly deep colour; some evolution on the nose. The palate has slightly cooked fruit of cherry and prune, and is somewhat light. Modest length, even a bit short on the finish. This is tasting quite mature, but will probably keep for a while. Although this is only a village wine, I expected more from such a renowned producer (and for the price).

Much better showing than last year. Drunk over 2 nights. Strong raspberry and strawberry sweet nose. Darker cherry on the palate with some earthiness and a hint of coffee. Much fuller texture than I remember. Silky from the vintage. Darker profile on the nose on day 2 - Autumn leaves and spicy red / black cherry fruit. Slightly short finish. Like it v. much. Drinking well from now. Based on day 2 not sure it has the acidity to last much beyond the medium term - 5+ years

PnP. Not my btl but a fun drink. As usual another crowd pleasing 09 Burg. I was skeptical about 09 but like many btls I've had this delivers balance and reliably good Burgundy. A little dusty on the end but lush tasty fruit and spice make this delicious. Only knock, you can no longer sneak up on Dujac at any level and buy this at a great price. If anything you will overpay by $10-$20 at this level. Solid but you're paying for the name here. Average price on CT...$75. Drinks like $50.

Quite a deep colour; the nose is quite evolved and slightly composty; a good initial flavour of burnt raisins and prunes, but there is some weakness towards the end and the finish is short. The flavours suggest the wine is mature, although it will probably keep for a while yet.

Consumed over three days, just kept getting better. Nose fairly reductive to start with, but dark fruit and some wood cane forward with air. The palate is fairly broad and heavy although the wine is somewhat closed day one. There is good sweetness lurking in the background and day three it is singing. No signs of oxidization at all. Leave it for 4-5 years...

Just a hint of reduction but breathes up beautifully quite quickly. Full of rich re and black cherry fruit. There's some floral/spicy lift to the wine and it is perfumed, rich and beautifully balanced. Despite the creamy nature of the fruit profile it has some tension to the finish and possesses excellent length.

Dark and weighty for a pinot. Focused black cherry fruit. At first, lots of that amazing high quality oak. After hours of being open, it integrates very well and more of the secondary notes of game and forest floor start to emerge. Improved on day 2.

The signature Domaine Dujac Morey-saint- Denis ; a wine with beautifully focused sweet cherry fruit and some spicy aromas. On the palate elegance, finesse, complexity, charm and tannic structure, or is it the stems which gave the wines a more firm framework. I don’t know but this is an outstanding wine for its level. This 2009 has lots of ripe but not too ripe fruit and is very accessible early and should age well too.

PnP. As with most of the 2009, this is almost immediately engaging with its high tone, perfume floral scent and red cherry profile. Savory, roasted meat as well as hint of stem emerged when the wine gotten more air. Not overly complex but it is excellent for what it is : loaded on the palate, excellent sappiness and scale. It possess good amount of dry extract, mineral for the freshness and ripe acid and tannin for the firm structure. The fruits will tone down and obtained better nuances with age but it is also delicious, now. Persistent finished with touch of spiciness as well as savoriness. 88-89+

Medium intense ruby coloured at the core, with a clearing rim and pinkish highlights. The nose is medium intense initially and offers up impressions of game and dried herbs, aside from cherry liqueur-like fruitiness. This wine is definitely medium-plus bodied and just-about medium-plus acidity keeps things refreshing on the quite extracted mid-palate, which showcases nicely textured and medium intense soft red fruits of the preserved strawberry and raspberry kind. The whole is supported by medium but ripe tannins, which display a bit of the earthy rusticity this village is known for. The whole package however, is well balanced and the finish keeps that up for 20-25 seconds. So, 88 points are in order and a minimum of 4 years in the cellar may just see this wine reach 90. ........... TN Mike de Lange.

France 2011 - Côte d'Or; 7/8/2011-7/13/2011 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. From 375ml. Nice ripeness on the nose (but not too much) with notes of red cherries, light raspberries and spice. Palate offers flavours of darker cherries and subtle tobacco and earth with soft and ripe tannins. It’s light to medium in body with good length and quite a bit of acid. There is a hint of oak coming through on the palate but it’s well-integrated already and adds some complexity. Approachable now but give this 3-5 years for even better results. Excellent. 90+

Burgundy 2011 Day 5: Visit to Domaine Dujac (Morey-St. Denis, Burgundy): Superb for a village wine. Really perfumy on the nose, with violets layered liberally over dark cherries and mulberries, along with some damp earth and sweet spice aromas - very nice indeed. The palate was nicely round with very ripe tannins, and lovely pure cherry fruit alongside some earthy accents. Lots of depth, and I thought a sense of extra complexity and freshness with use of whole clusters. It ended in a lovely long finish with mouthwatering acidity running through flavours of dark cherries and pinpricks of spice with just a tiny touch of oak in the background. A lovely wine and really solid for a village.

This wine was tasted unblinded at the Vintage Wines, Ltd. tasting bar. The robe is light-to-medium ruby, while the nose shows very intense aromas of cardamom, red cherries, smoke and gun powder. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and light tannins. The middle palate hollows out a bit but the resurrected finish is medium in length and reasonably supple. Another couple of years in the cellar may fill in some of the holes, but I would not brand this one as a long-term keeper. Drink 1/13-12/18.

Following 4 hours slow ox considerable darkening on nose and palate, olive tapenade, dark humid earth, iron, leather, iodine, saline, masculine in a sweaty way, which is an interesting contrast to the quite pretty, feminine way it all started off...

Opened a 3rd bottle over last several yrs -- it's still within an early drinking window and took >1 hour to show additional aromas and complexity; earthy, black cherry, fine persistent tannins that make me think this can last several more yrs but wonder if it will improve.

was favoured by all as the best of three. However, students were not sure in blind tasting whether it comes from Champagne or elsewhere. Bold and complete wine even from the village level appellation. Forest strawberries and raspberries.
