Probably a year or two past its prime, but still very drinkable. Tannins fully resolved, still red in color. Not much on the nose but fairly flavorful with ripe fruit. Unlike other reviewers I did not find it overly alcoholic. The Dusi held up better than a 2009 Duarte we drank at the same time, which was thin and showing a brown rim, although it opened up a bit in the glass.

(Vertical Dusi tasting at Turley.) Fully mature and drinking beautifully. Secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors joined by a few remaining primary flavors. Black plums, thyme, crushed lavender and coal tar in a long, lingering finish. Tannins have integrated fully. Beautifully expressive. I wouldn’t wait on these. Worth Seeking Out.

The last of our three bottles, a little past its drinking window. Opaque plum with a thin rim. Underbrush aromas. Initial tannins with a taste of nori. Opening up with ripe plum fruit. A little bit of a metallic aftertaste. High alcohol a bit of a distraction.

Opened and poured over a few nights under vac-u-vin. Deep, dark, brambly with prunish/plum notes, black cherry, boysenberry, a little soy. Somewhat one dimensional and lacking the zin characteristics I love - a bit too high on the ABV. Still, solid juice that should be priced around $40 a bottle.

Perhaps is was a remnant of Ehren's stewardship, but like the Ridge Dusi's, I've often found the Turley's to be overripe and baked. This was a breath of fresh air, spicy nose of molasses and dark zinberry, flavors ate ripe but balance, raspberry, green tea, cracked pepper and refreshing acidity. Tad hot on exit.

Purple color with a bouquet and flavor of plums and brambles, typical of many Zinfandels, but marred by very high alcohol that was no longer integrated, likely because counterbalancing flavors had dissipated with age.

Decanted 30 mins. ahead off of a small amount of sediment; sampled over the next hour. Very deep garnet with a faintly brownish quality, just barely noticeable. Nice rich nose of black pepper, white pepper, roasted black cherries, briary tones. Full-bodied and smooth on the palate, with blueberry compote leading over pale coffee and prune flavors. It tastes aged, but not cooked. The finish is plummy, with some grip and zero tannins. Probably at its peak. A good example of rich, old-school CA zin (from a hot year) with some bottle age.

Lighter in color than I expected with garnet edges that made it look older that I expected. Nice red fruit nose, but was less fruity on the palate. Pepper, cedar, earth in addition to fruit. Well balanced but slightly thinner than many Turley Zins.

Another beautiful Turley Zin that walks the line between bold fruit and elegance. Popped and poured to celebrate L's successful day at the office, it shows bright fruit on the palate and rusticity in the bouquet, while still remaining elegant. Great texture and pinpoint acidity. Dark cranberry red with hefty legs in the glass, it offers a cornucopia of red and black pit fruits with an alluring whiff of summertime Southern California chaparral at dusk in both the opening and the close. Certainly not a guzzler at 16% abv. Just slow down and enjoy. Was even more open for business on the second night. Delicious. (This would be a 92-94 if I were still rating wines.)

Decanted for 1h at a four-course dinner with friends in North Jersey. Black pepper on the nose and palate, and lots of fruit and character. Tannins are already integrated. Spicy. This is a big wine, and you need food to go with this, for me this paired nicely with the blue cheese in the iceberg salad and the filet in the main course.

No detailed notes. Typical Turley flavor profile, with some brambles and dark fruit. It this case, that fruit is not as lush as some outings, balanced against an acidity that actually makes this a bit easier than some to pair with food. All-in-all, a nice wine, but I wouldn't hold on to these much longer.

Upon opening immediate notes of strawberry/cassis with a bit of alcohol. Left open for a while and swirled in glass this opened up with more dark berry/cassis, strawberry, currants. With a bit more time some of the earthier notes opened up - like tobacco, some 'pine' notes - perhaps a eucalyptus-like aromatic note. Found this to be a luscious wine with that spicy note I like in a zin. None of this vintage left; will wait a while to try the 2011.

Nose: Pure strawberry & some fresh field tobacco. Palate: Pipe tobacco, strawberry, absolutely delicious. Lingering pipe tobacco on the long finish. This one is pretty unique, unlike many other Zins I've had. I still prefer Scott Harvey's 2007 1869, and also M. Cosentino's 2007 CigarZin, but this is outstanding! 92 pts.

A bit thin and not very complex. Usually, I like this vyd designate and it's one of my favorites...but this particular vintage just left me scratching my head. All fruit, no wood or spice integration. Fairly one-dimensional, but an easy drinker and a crowd pleaser. A bit hot at 16% ABV.

Not as intense a nose as usual. Medium-body, also less than usual. More acidity, a bit thinner, with less intense fruit. Nice spice and good tannin, but comes across a bit too acidic. Black cherry cola, purple/black plums and chocolate.

Splash decanted into a pie plate and with some air this wine was absolutely rocking. To be fair, it was Turley #2 on the night (first was a similarly-rocking '09 Pesenti; I have resolved to drink my Cali zins younuger). More syrah than zin-like, this would have been better with some food. And it was once we busted out the bleu cheese and some charcuterie. Delicious. Sadly my only one of this SVD. Great QPR.

Although drinkable this bottle completely missed on any definition of a zinfandel and showed itself more like a weak poet. No nose. Light oak. Mouthfeel was a handful of fresh Sun Maid raisins. If I wanted that I'd buy the little red box. Thanks anyways Turley.

Deep amber color. After pop & pour at Huntley Tavern, interestingly quite dominant on the bright, red fruit up front--particularly bing cherry and raspberry--on nose and palate, but evolved to more blackberry and oak with air. Oak spice and black pepper on the finish added some complexity. The alcohol was there, but not at all what it could have been, sitting at 16%. I do think the use of oak to calm all that fruit and alcohol down came across a little more than I'd like, however. Nice wine overall, but could have been more balanced for the price, and oddly enough, I would advocate pop-n-pour over decant.
