The wine had a solid red hue with a clear core and a reddish rim with a hint of orange. The nose was full of herbal notes, raspberries, cherries and toasty oak. The palate had medium acidity and astringency with notes of black cherries, black pepper and thyme. The wine was very true to the 15+% alcohol as the label noted.
The wine had good structure and taste but the heat was a handful. Overall a pleasant wine for the price point, enjoy.

Drink this now. No sense in holding. It does seem more mellow versus my last note. Good price and I would look for latest vintage.
This is 1-2 dimensional only - seems lighter than the 15% ETOH i was expecting. Nose is light smokey cherry/blackberry fruit. Palate is decent with initial hit of acid and light tannin. you get some black fruit that fades fast. Finish is short and fades to nothing memorable.

The wine looks rosy colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cool/menthol, banana, stems, chocolate and rubbery. It tastes like ethanol, sherry, alcohol/hot, cherry, cranberry and petrol. The body is medium. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has high acidity.

Really good bottle of wine especially from a QPR perspective. Nice aroma, maybe a bit of vinegar or barnyard, and with a bit of alcohol.. Not surprising given the 15.2% alcohol. Great flavors of cherry and plum, and while not a lot of tannins and wonderful mouth feel. Nice lingering aftertaste.

Fiery red, high alcohol content (15%) burns the nose a bit at the nose and on first sip. Tasted of plum and didn't pair well with raw cheddar (soft). Needs a sharp cheese or meat. The Las Rocas is a big, silky, full-bodied wine that reminds me of a cheap zinfandel. The oak is American and obvious, not at all integrated with the rest of the juice. The nose here is hot and jammy as is the palate that somehow manages to portray a slim figure despite the alcohol and gobs of red and black fruit. Where's the glycerin? While there's plenty of it, the fruit comes across as smudged and instead of raspberry or blackberry, I can only say it tastes of mashed berries, baked. Overall I know the tone of my review is a bit negative, but this is indeed a fun wine, perhaps one to be imbibed before entering the gates of a baseball stadium, thus reducing the need for many $8 beers. Drink by spring, 2014. I'm adding this on the 14th: I've come back to the 2nd half of this bottle 48 hours after opening and not only is this still going strong, the Rocas has improved, now showing a touch more minerality and better balance. I extend my drinking window to summer, 2015.

Deep ruby. Nose of pepper, dark fruit and alcohol. Alc. 15.2%! Balanced, but moderately heavy tannin with palate of dark fruit, spice, tobacco and leather. Moderately long finish. Was definitely better on day 2. Tannins had softened and fruit came out. This wine would be nice if it just had less alcohol.

The nose showed cherry, blackberry with cedar, chalk and a note of green stems, which grounded it more to the earth. On the palate it was juicy with sweet mixed berries, spice and dark chocolate but dropped off quickly on the finish. It was certainly a juicy and ripe wine that goes down easy, but don't look here for depth.

A dark ruby color. Nose is obscured by the alcohol. (This is a hot wine - Alc. 15.2%!) Aeration helps a lot and then the fruit comes through. A palate of pleasant dark cherry, blackberries with a hint of pepper, chocolate and tobacco. Balanced, moderate tannins that soften with the aeration. Moderate to long finish. A decent wine for the price but open it early.

Nice balance of fruit/acid and light tannin. A little hollow perhaps. Can feel the heat of 15% ETOH on mid/late palate. A little one dimensional with dark cherry fruit. Serving this a little cool takes the edge off. Agree 1 -2 yrs more in bottle may help this mellow. Otherwise is good value.

15.0% - Clear, medium to deep ruby / Clean, med+ cherries, riped plums, kirsch and lots of smoke/ dry, med- acidity, med+ body, med smooth tannin and med+ intensity, med+ length. That's a crowd pleaser... Perfect companion to match BBQ baby back ribs and a smoky home made sauce.

15.0% - Clear, medium to deep garnet / Clean, med+ dark cherries, riped plums, kirsch and a smoky/toasty finish with a hint of pepper / dry, med- acidity, med+ body, med smooth tannin and med+ intensity. The wine is very well balanced with such a "juicy" fruit - the high level of alcohol is seemless (tastewise...). Very nice style of riped fruits with a med+ length and impressive complexity - especially for its price and young age. Even though this is not a wine structured for long ageing period (not enough acidity), I'll probably put my hands on a few more bottles and will try some 1-3 years from now.

Big, spicy, berry, herb nose with lots of licorice. Dark, jammy plum palate with a lot of depth. Good, overdelivers for the money.
