  • PnP

    Excellent rapport Q/P

  • Fascinating how alive this wine felt! Smoky , spicy , peppery and fresh from color to nose. It developed a lot of volatile acidity along the way which spoiled the experience we have to say and gave the wine a brash feel. Would have to say though impressively alive for a 45yr old wine. 89-90

  • Tasted blind. Dark fruit, some green notes, smoke, and pepper on the nose. Nice acidity with quite powerful, structural tannins and more dark fruit and some bell pepper flavors on the palate. Nice finish. This actually felt too young and in need of 10+ years. Couldn't believe it's a 76, I would have guessed a really young showing 89/90 Chinon. Quite impressive.

  • Is this wine immortal?!
5+yrs since my last note but still on its never-ending plateau. Slightly harsh acidity at first decant but quickly blew off by the time it hit the glass 30mins later. Core fruit of dense wild strawberry and brulé black hedge and stoned fruits, smoke, earth and charred oak. Very little vegetal character given the extreme age. Touch of capsicum adds interest and (after breathing) shows well balanced acidity. Long. Perfection.
Will hold my last bottle for its 50th birthday in 2026. I have little doubt that it will still be chugging along towards the never ending horizon!!

  • This was impressive. Blind I believed it to be a ~20-25 y.o. traditional Rioja, as it was generally lean, fresh and very lively, colour was still garnet almost w/o browning. Puzzling, but excellent wine. Some funk on the nose hint at Cabernet Franc, but there was not much of earthy notes.

  • As per 2013 note. 2 hour decant, 30 minutes of pleasure!!
When will this remarkable wine ever start showing signs of coming off this amazing plateau of excellence? Absolutely no rush.

  • In Norton. Good but still not showing much evolution.

  • Managed to get a few more bottles from the excellent Maison Gosselin in St Vaast-la-Hougue (Normandy) a couple of months ago.
My previous note of 2013 applies - a truly remarkable (and seemingly immortal) wine!

  • Impressive youth, both in color and flavor. How was this kept? Insanely drinkable, although perhaps not the greatest wine ever.

  • Not the finest but certainly the most remarkable wine I've drunk in 2013.
Decanted for 2 hours. Colour in the glass deep and red with only enlarged clear edges betraying a hint of age. Nose of cherry and cedary wood, hint of smoke - absolutely no vegetal/mushroom age indicators.
Flavour of wild strawberries and sour cherry with backbone of green capsicum acidity in medium weight envelope of dusty integrated tannins. Again, not a hint that this wine is approaching its 40th birthday.
Austerely elegant and superb food wine (plain grilled meat).
Still youthful at 37, must be good for at least another 5+ years. 92 points with a bonus for being so remarkable!

  • Incredibly youthful in color and fruit, certainly recognizably Cab Franc from a ripe year. Very good, but youthful was not what I was looking for in a 37 year-old wine.

  • Still alive and quite impressive even though it's definitely past peak.
Paired perfectly with a boeuf bourguignon

  • Vin à la couleur intense, ne montrant pas de signes d'évolution. Il parait encore jeune avec des tannins toujours bien présent. Nez sur les arômes tertiaires.

  • Tokyo Offline Group Inaugural (French Mixed Bag) (Cuisine 219): Ex-domaine. Surprisingly deep, dark colour. Looks like a ten-year old claret. Nose of wet earth, a little green pepper (interesting, not overbearing), raspberry that darts in and out. Evolves to a little more dusty character. Nice combination of evolved but still evident tannins, quenched by juicy/acid sour cherry fruit. Finish shows a bit of dry leaves. All showing much younger than expected. Very happy with it, but it lacks a "wildness" I had hoped for. Revisted after 45 minutes or so, much more cherry on nose, a little more sweet red berry on mid-palate, and dark berry on a persistent finish. Classic case of giving an old wine too little time to open up.
