Terrific after a 2.5 hour decant. Deep, dark cherry, interesting rich secondary flavors, really aromatic, and enough structure to keep it lively. Drank over two hours. Really, really good.

Decanted for a good couple hours. Big on the secondary flavors—coffee maybe, and a tar like taste. Had a lot of fruit to balance. This is terrific. I’m sure it’ll be fine for a few more years but it seems perfect now so why wait?

One of the best merlots I've had in a minute. Beautiful elegant cherry driven fruit but the espresso, truffle, scorched earth notes were what really impressed and added complexity. Drinking really well right now, not sure exactly where it's headed, but it'll be fun to find out.

Another year around the sun-Birthday #42 (Daisies and Pops for Champagne-Chicago, IL): This was decanted for a few hours before dinner. This was expressive and polished with well balanced tones of red cherries, herbs, fresh picked berries, violets, spices, cocoa, licorice, leather, and currants. This is a nose where it takes a few goes to process it all. The Full bodied feel is polished and deep with medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. There is a lot of poise, elegance, and depth that works together just perfectly right now. This has some smooth edges and a slight bit of gloss, but this isn't close to an overdone Merlot. This shows off what the grape can really do as there is a level of stature and elegance that really makes this wine.

I’ve been drinking these too young: this bottle was far more enjoyable than the first two. Dark and richly aromatic, with a lucious soft texture and a very long finish that reveals layers of flavor and minerality. In 2013 I liked it, and noted black cherry, leather and toffee. That description still feels right, but somehow it seems much more knit-together now.

PnP that seems in a good place just now. Mature, though still fresh flavors of dark red fruits, with good+ soil/place notes that emerge by the second glass. It was enjoyed with food and on its own quite equally. It's holding up well, but I don't really see a reason to jeopardize freshness in the hope of further evolution. But that comes down to personal tastes. For the style, it's highly recommended
Double decanted for a small Merlot-based tasting. Drinking very well. Seamless integration. Moving to tertiary fruit. Lingering finish. Well done Stefano and Luca.
Decanted 3 hours. Maybe that was too long, it was not as powerful or impressive as I had hoped. Dark red/black'ish color. Notes of dark black berries. Medium finish.

First time with this wine. Decant for 45 mins, but wine best at 2 hours mark. At the beginning, there was only primary fruits + grainy tannin. At 2 hours mark, the wine become powerful, have to remind myself its 100% merlot - quite impressive. Good fruits & Tuscan feel for sure. However, can't help to think the 2009 Guado al Tasso consumed a month ago was more enjoyable at similar acquisition cost. Enjoyable wine, but not quite sure if a re-buy. Have 1 more bottle for revist

Enjoyed alongside the 2005 Galatrona at a dinner party. This vintage shows lots more power and structure, whereas the 2005 is more about elegance, finesse, and complexity. Galatrona is just an exceptional wine, and shows consistently well from vintage to vintage. This should continue to develop for many more years.

Deep, dark reddish-purple; almost opaque in color. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & violets notes, cocoa/coffee, dried herbs, a hint of anise, smoky, minerals & a touch of vanilla. Medium-deep bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with dark cocoa, coffee, spices, herbs, minerals, earthy & vanilla/oak. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and airing but should continue development further with several more years of additional aging.

Could have decanted longer. Did not have the lush polish of some previous Galatrona vintages. Lots of great dark red and black fruits with a core of earth and leather. Some mint and licorice as well. Threw off a lot of sediment. Good pairing with "Food Wishes" preparation of prime rib of roast beef.

Opened in bottle for 5 hours and drinking nicely. Much more concentrated than the 2011/12 but still so young with tart acidity and bitter tannin. Cassis, fresh espresso grounds, raspberry liqueur, and stewed plums on the palate. The oak is still present and harsh. Needs several more years to integrate but a couple more points potential.

Certainly benefits from 3 hour decant. A quite opulent soft fruity nose with blueberry, blackberry, coffee, herbs and violets is paired with more acidity than expected on the palate giving a good and nice grib and retaining freshness. It seems to be primary in its expression, quite tightly coiled, but at the same time the structure seems to be lacking as tannins are finely grained and well integrated. Dont really know where it will go from here, have not tasted old Galatrone so short on reference. Lovely now with a decant so if in doubt start drinking!

*** C: Uniform dark red N: Tobacco P: Starts with an acid edge, but it's mostly gone after a two hour decant. Smooth with great breadth of flavor, length and integration. It has a lot going for it. A solid but not heavy wine. Slight kick in mid-palate, slight dryness at finish. Still young, has a long life ahead. Lots of structure. The style is apparently comparable to Le Pin. 100% merlot.

Doubled decanted and left to breathe in bottle for 5hrs before bringing it to dinner. Much better than the previous bottle I had close to a year ago. A very exuberant nose of crushed blackberries. Opulent, mouth-filling dark fruit on the palate with a grippy and well rounded finish. Could use more bottle age to gain depth and complexity. This will go the distance but approachable now with a couple of hours of air.

Decanted for an hour and drank over the following hour. Not very expressive on the nose. Dense; dark cherries on the palate with some spice, smokiness and bitter, coffee-like notes. Medium length finish. All a bit one-dimensional. Not very sure what to make of this wine. Seems like it could be in an awkward phase. My best guess would be to give it 3-5 more years.

Much more restrained then i expected. Nose shows ripe blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, portobello mushrooms and roasted coffee beans, tightly coiled but precise in its expression. Palate is even more primary, more acidity than i thought possible in Merlot, and quite balanced. Finely grained tannins on the close which seems quite resolved and in contrast with the primary nature of both nose and midpalate. Harmonious, enjoyable, but i think it needs 3-4 years to develop more nuances.

This always a massive Merlot that requires a solid decant when enjoyed within the first 6-8 years. Still very young. Decanted for over an hour and consumed over another five plus. This is the third vintage of Galatrona I've enjoyed; it seems consistent from vintage to vintage in terms of both quality, enjoyment, and taste. Great aroma and flavor profile of dark cherries and spicy berries, unsweetened chocolate, black coffee, and loamy earth. Showing nice complexity and smoothness in spite of its youthful flair and noticeable structure. Great long finish. Enjoyed with tossed shrimp and pesto pasta. This will drink well for many years.

Opened 4 hours before tasted stewed with meat and cheese. Dark red color; alcoholic odor-winy with ripe red fruit (cherry mostly) and pepper, notes of wood, leather, wet earth; a little closed in the mouth with a good offense acid, tannins still a bit rough and woodiness to no new oak barrels. A wine of medium body and medium length finish. Purity of merlot not obvious. To drink within 7-10 years. Score 90-92.

Gambero Rosso 2012 (Metropolitan Pavilion): The nose showed dark red and blue fruits with a minty, airy note. On the palate, it was lean and focused yet very young as the tannins took over through the close. It needs more time or a good decant to show it’s true potential.

Dense and concentrated with fruits and some stalky/grassy character. Right amount of oak. Balanced. Quite an impressive merlot.

This is really an exceptional merlot. Dark purple/black, looks thick. Very aromatic with black cherry or perhaps ripe plums, toffee, leather. Soars on the palate: flavorful, rich, long. Drinking very well already.

Bordeaux Index - Great Winemakers of Italy 2013 Tasting (London): Extremely interesting expression of Merlot. Very full bodied, smoky, complex. Extremely long after taste.
It drinks fine, but I would wait a few years before I open the next bottle.

Retailer tasting: Beautiful and rich, creamy bouquet with dark fruits, sweet spices, toast and some eucalyptus. On the palate dark berry fruits, some chocolate, sweet spices, beautiful oak and creamy and round tannin. A beautiful and complex wine. Very accessible already and a future until at least 2020.

Awesome wine. Beautiful depth, long finish. Drying velvety smooth tannins really kick in on mid palate ....but not distracting. Great complexity .... black cherries, cassis, plums, sage, earthy, some tar, licorice. Beautiful bright acidity keeps this wine from seeming heavy.

Gambero Rosso 2012 (Metropolitan Pavilion): The nose showed dark red and blue fruits with a minty, airy note. On the palate, it was lean and focused yet very young as the tannins took over through the close. It needs more time or a good decant to show it’s true potential.
