  • Out with a bang? This last of our 750s takes 30 minutes to shed some of its cottony structure and come into its own as a nice wine with with a good presentation. I wouldn’t call it a beauty but it is nice.

  • PnP. Medium red. Lovely floral nose of lavender and red fruits. Good weight on the palate with lovely mature sweet red fruit flavors. Finishes with a touch of acidity to keep it all in balance. Nice showing at age 12.

  • Subsequent notes on this wine from several years ago. Dark ruby red in color with no obvious signs of aging. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & blueberries with overtones of spice notes of cardamom, nutmeg & cloves & floral notes of violets, earthy/dusty notes, minerals, cherry-cola & a slight hint of vanilla. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs, earthy, some cherry-cola notes, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 12 years of age may be at its peak of development but should hold for a few more years if stored properly. Cork was clean & intact; fill was up in the neck.

  • Better than meh but still don’t know what to make of it. Lots of fleshy structure that’s surrounded by a good nose and a good length.

Save the last 750 until... 2024?

  • Still my least favorite of the 2009s but this bottle is subtle and sweet in many aspects and... pleasing.

  • Still my least favorites of the three 2009s. Structured and tight and yes, fruit, but stuctured and tight. Good length though.

  • PNP. cork perfect. color garnet w ruby edges. nose is dark and plummy w some 5 spice back there. swishing shows mostly tannin structure that is a bit rough on the finish (stem/skin). sipping shows dense fruit that totally covers the tannin and alcohol. blind not sure i would guess pinot, but if i did would definitely guess new world cali. it's good. i don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

  • Compared to my previous note, the nose is now less reticent but the length is still short. Compared to the previous wine (the 2009 Stone Corral from last night) this one is less of a wine; not as expansive nor as rich.

  • PnP. Hazy medium red. A bit reticent on the nose, though hints of crunchy red apple and cherry. On the palate this is all about red fruits and spice; lovely medium weight texture and depth on the long finish. This tastes quite young for 9. One of the better Talleys although it lacks aromatic complexity at least initially.

  • Violets. Meat. Long finish. Contrapuntal to 2008. Delicious.

  • "It's just not balanced, but it's good. 92?"

I'm not as charitable. The wine is good tasting, with an okay length, but the nose is reticent and the balance leans heavily towards acid.

I'd say that this is... not a keeper. Tbd I suppose.

    Drink up.

  • Needed air to open up, very nice once open. Cherry, sage, spice. Full bodied, silky, finely textured with a touch of oak and integrated structure. Should continue to age well, though for my taste seems like it's reached maturity or slightly past peak.

  • PnP. After an hour. Medium dark red. Nice nose of red berries with a floral highlight. On the palate this is quite full with intense cola, spice, and oak, as well as good acidity, though the tannins are pretty buried. Still tasting quite young. Will be interesting to see this evolve over the next 5 years or so.

  • This is all about the layering on the palate and finish. The aromatics are nice, black cherry, coastal sage, five spice, but not the star of the show. Fleshy fruit on entry, round mid-palate, and the finish lasts forever. The inner, retronasal aromas are amazing and expand upon the direct aromatics, especially the coastal herbs. There's big structure lurking underneath it all, though the tannins and acidity are not intrusive. This cuvee seems capable of comfortably navigating 3-5 more years in the cellar.

  • Friends opened this after we returned from the 9/7/13 Andrew Will release party. It was poured through a vinturi and consumed immediately. It had a wonderful, fragrant bouquet of cherry, raspberry, sassafras and baking spice aromas. The palate was dry, layered and reserved with flavors that followed the nose. It really needed a good decant. 91+

  • Popped and poured. Color garnet. Nose w dark cherry fruit and some toasted oak. Passed thru vinturi and opened up a bit showing more earthy notes, fruit 5 spice and a whiff of alcohol. On palate this is fairly dense although seems a bit simple. Finish med length and turns a bit stemmy on end. Matched well with cedar plank salmon. Will wait a year or two to try the next one, but don't expect this one to age gracefully, as graceful is not how i would describe it right now.
