The 2009 continues to be an awesome QPR cab slayer. For anyone who thinks merlot is Melba toast or lacks depth and interest, this is the gateway bottle for them.
The Vieux Château Certan of napa, this is a great bottle of wine. Perfumy aromatics, plenty of fruit, precise balance with acidity and tannins and a silky mouthfeel make this a complete wine. This continues to get better. I expect it has another decade of joy to give.
Served at 59 farenheit after a decant, and like the 2004 and 2008, best as it warmed to room temperature.
Bottle 2/6. This one was decanted for a bit longer and better paired with the meal (1h+, goose with homemade plum sauce) than last time (30m, highly acidic meatball pasta). The wine was pretty spectacular offering an intensely long finish of bramble fruit and chocolate while still retaining the requisite Pomerol nose of plum and truffle. I can still taste the finish the next day. Out of 1,500+ tasting notes I’ve very rarely scored 97 or higher (and only two 98s: Petrus and Le Pin) and this bottle is definitely in that league.
Decanted for over half hour. On the initial pour very floral and fruit bouquet which was less pronounced by the first glass. On the palate a little tightly coiled at first then later sips revealed red and dark fruit and above all dark chocolate with wood and graphite undertones. Bright acidity which eased somewhat and a medium plus finish of dark chocolate and graphite. Very drinkable with an hour plus decant. Over time the palate became a little spicier with exotic spices and the nose became smokier. Beautiful wine if tasted blind I never would have guessed Napa and thought a classic Pomerol. 95-96+
Deep concentration. Aromatically powerful. Dark fruits merging into black olives and melted licorice. Campfire undertones. Multiple waves on the palate. The wine could use more red fruit flavors and acidic balance. But the quality hits you like a hammer.

Impressive. Gorgeous nose of blueberries, cassis and smoke, followed by chocolate flavors. The mouthfeel is pure velvet with plenty of structure for many more years of aging ahead. The flavors are very dense and saturated but this retains impeccable balance and freshness with good underlying acidity. This wears its 15.2% alcohol effortlessly.

crimson/ruby in color with loads of red fruit on the nose. Palate coating cherries turnovers.... and fruit that is still primary. Tannins and acid completely rounded and integrated. Medium finish. My only knock on day one was the oak/vanilla influence was a bit strong. After a night in the bottle this patience was rewarded. Hold for another 2 years or long decant. Bravo Denis Malbec. RIP

45 minute decant. Merlot dominated blend. Deep opaque cranberry red. Big nose and taste of cocoa, semi ripe strawberry, licorice and cherry. Dusty well integrated tannins results in a great mouthfeel. Acidity is still high 10 years later - my only knock on the wine. Medium plus body.

Beautiful Napa bordeaux blend. Merlot, with a touch of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, drinking well at ten years. Big cassis and black fruit that's lean and restrained. Slate and minerality, with a touch of cedar and tobacco. Elegant and precise, an excellent wine.
Extremely good. Flavor profile is more like a fruit fwd Bordeaux than it is a typical Napa wine. Ripe fruit, but very restrained. Prime drinking window right now. A real crowd pleaser.

Quite probably one of the best 5 wines I have ver had in my life. The wine is impressive, extremely well done, and the fruit purity and quality is beyond premium. I am a big Napa cab guy, but frankly I can drink this wine alongside with my very best Napa cabs. I cant think of somethig I didn´t liked and I don´t score it a 100 because the finish was not 60+ seconds long. I have no idea if it can get more delicious than this, but I am going to start opening the rest as events come up.

Superb wine. Attacks the palate with wave after wave of dark fruit, pine forest, and new leather. Thick and mouth-coating, but full of energy too. I love how the acidity in this wine comes across as lively without any tartness. Tannins are big but approachable. Excellent balance overall. Should only improve with time.

Stunningly beautiful Merlot blend from one of my favorite Napa wineries. It comes across as very young but with signs of coming into its own as the oak is integrating, the alcohol is being subsumed, and the tannins are strong but blending into the palate beautifully. The overall impression is of fantastic fruit balanced by moderate tannins, alcohol, acidity and minerality accompanying a floral nose and excellent finish. Just a real pleasure to drink with a tri-tip roast or by itself. The alcohol is still present but not obtrusive but don't drink the bottle by yourself unless you are in for the night.

Huge wine. Opened up nicely after an hour decant. Very fragrant with notes of cherry, coffee, blueberry, cocoa, cigar box and vanilla. Slightly heavy on the oak treatment and alcohol. A little heat coming through on the nose. Classy texture. improved over dinner. Probably not at peak yet. Really enjoyable wine.

A "Right Bank Bordeaux", whether from the original location or California, only when special takes us somewhere we all want to live - The Noble Grape Nirvana. Wow, wow, wow!!! A blend of 79.8% Merlot, 11.8% Cabernet Franc and a smattering of Cabernet Sauvignon....the science, if not artistry, of the blend seems almost intoxicating when they specify beyond the decimal point...seriously!? Only 200 cases, we deem ourselves blessed to have one. 15.2% alcohol means open and place in "time-out" as the air works its magic (5 hours breathing in bottle). Huge, full-bodied chocolate, espresso and ripe black fruits. Decadent, finely textured will lay down for 20 more years. Stunner!!!

We popped open one of our favourite California Cabernet Sauvignons (blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and a bit of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) to toast the sad and unexpected passing of Blankiet Wine Maker Extraordinaire - Denis Malbec. RIP, Denis...and sip well during the next step in your journey.
Rich purple/brown/red on the eye. Blankiet really knows how to open the door and dare you to jump into the deep end!
Dark, black fruits, coffee and smokiness overwhelms your nose and speaks volumes as to why you MUST decant for at least 5 hours before sipping this Mack Truck.
Palate is overwhelmed with fruit, toasty-oak, silky tannins and happy integration.
We mistakenly let her breathe in the bottle and only felt we had experienced all her glory in hour 8...yup, we are serious. Plan well in advance with this powerful, heavyweight champion...and probably wait another 5 to 10 years before sipping.

Did not take notes, but as expected, this was terrific. Super rich & ripe, with tremendous depth of flavors - dark fruits, kirsch, vanilla and perhaps some leather/smoke. Full, rich, velvety mouthfeel and great balance. Focused finish that lingers for a long, long time. Undoubtedly has upside, but also a delight to drink right now. About as hedonistic as a wine can get.
