Pretty good considering the vintage, however not at the level one can expect from "Le Bourg". Well balanced, good structure, great complexity, but the cab franc is not ripe here. Quite green on the palate, pretty low acidity, elegant tanins, moderate + length. Should age well, but not sure it will really improve over time.

A relaxed afternoon with two crazy guys (@Private location, Solingen): Glass: Zalto Universal Opened about 2h before, decanted right before drinking. Perfect bottle, bought at release. Clear, medium raspberry color. Wonderful deep and intense nose with lots of herbs, red fruit, spices. On the palate very elegant and balanced. Great acidity, lots of cassis, pepper and garden herbs. Beautiful texture, lots of pressure and depth. Very long. Slowly reaching its peak, but at least potential for further development of 10+ years. 95-96

One of those bottles of wine that seems to have an extra level. Alive and shifting, eluding description, it would have been hard to pinpoint if drunk blind. (Decanted for 2 hours after seeming oaky upon opening.)

Open attractive nose with dark tones, on the palate salty liquorice, black pepper, earth and mould, smokey and impressively deep, beautifully silky and velvety. A classy wine which is drinking very well now. The quality of this wine matches the high price tag.

Clos Rougeard Breze and Le Bourg and some friends (905 Fahrenheit aka 485° Düsseldorf): In the flight 08, 07, 06 there was a discussion between 08 and 07 which is the greater wine. many would prefer the 08. My "love" was the 07. Very dense and concentrated. A lot of pressure in the late palate. Cassis, red pepper, raw but with subtle fruit. The first aging signs to give the wine more complexity and charme. At least 20 more years. 96(97)

Of the recent notes here, I would agree with BurgNick's assessment a few check-ins below. This was not a great showing. It felt a little but clunkier than I expect in Rougeard. Could be youth, but it didn't feel shut down. Just lacked something. It was weightier than I remember. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not Rougeard good. Both the '05 and '09 showed better in recent months.

Tasted after 2007 Les Clos and Les Poyeux. Quite different on the nose - really spicy, notes of anis, minerality, earth. Super intriguing with so much depth and intensity. On the palate similarly backward compared to Les Poyeux, wonderful depth, very elegant. Powerful, but round tannins, perfectly integrated acidity, generous fruit. Opens up impressively towards the finish, very lingering and intense. Superb. Approachable, but likely going to improve. 95-96+

Needs 1 hour to open up. Still young but lovely to drink now. Nose of green herbs, dusty cabernet franc, wild strawberries and pine. Medium body and so elegant on the palate. Loads of mouthwatering acidity which cleanses your mouth. 100% balance.

Loads of olives on the palate and the nose. Leather, smoke, dill, green and stalky, bay leaf and green pepper. Precise and really well made. Rich and voluptuous flavors. Very unique and specific. One of a kind wine.

Champagne Showdown: 1995 v. 1996 (Atera): First time ever with one of these, nose is bold, because it young, but very layered and highly nuanced with notes of blueberry, olive, leather, farmy soil, tea leaf, dark spice, -- Juicy blueberry palate, but intricate.

Herbs, green pepper, paprika, and tobacco on the nose. Palate needs time to flesh out the wine as it is one dimensional at this stage. It is certainly unique and interesting, but it needs lots of time to unfold.

Steak House Terroir (Leiden , NL): Delicate nose. Supple, intense, red cherry, tobacco and stony tannins on the palate. Very pure, balanced but not as impressive as the 2011 le Bourg a few months ago.

Leiden dinner at Terroir: Very interesting nose, combination of Burgundian red fruit and Bordeaux graphite, lovely to dive in. Taste red fruit, very clean, some tannins, spice, some green pepper. Really lovely wine.

Just f-ing wow. The nose is incredible - spun sugar red berry, verdure. Layered and dense with flavors but weightless body. So elegant, strong, and graceful. Red berry fruit with complementary and integrated light oak notes. Lengthy finish, a bit of spice. $160 at Ripple.

Clos Rougeard 1976 - 2010 organised by Jordi Orriols-Gil (Noble Rot, London): Felt outclassed by earlier vintages but also at this age the heavier wine, asking and oak use hides the charm of the wine and much like the 2005 lacked charisma and was a touch too sweet.maybe better in the future but no more than a 90 at this stage.

Beautiful nose I would have been happy to just sniff all night, but really tight and withholding on the palate. If the palate opens up and delivers on the promise made by the nose, as expected, this will be incredible.

Clos Rougeard Dinner; 6/16/2014-6/17/2014 (Absinthe, San Francisco): This is the real deal. Nose has pepper, great spices, cinnamon, green pepper; palate had layers, super-complex, clean acidity but density of fruit, spices, minerality, capsicum or green pepper. This is the clear winner of the night with it superb mouthfeel and elegance but still very young. 95+

Cabernet Franc Dinner (featuring Clos Rougeard) (Absinthe - San Francisco, CA): Do what you can to find this (at reasonable prices...). Definitely a young Rougeard, and Le Bourg can certainly take the longest to come around...but this is already a beast. The nose is amazing, and took me back to the first Rougeard I tried with my DC friends (Tim, Faryan, Bob, Brett, Alyssa, & Isaac) a while back. This had intense earth, floral, and peppery notes on the notes with a core of elegant red fruits. The palate was still youthful and the tannins were dialed up a bit. Bottom line here is that this will be (more) epic with time. If you see a bottle of Rougeard with "2007" written on it....buy it.

Really nice. This is somehow simultaneously ripe and vegetal, like V8 juice in wine form. Backed by a black cherry fruit profile. Not much perceptible structure. Light-bodied and persistent.

Remarkably Bordeaux-like in its flavour profile with a core of pure dark fruited and cassis flavours framed by forestal greenness, cedar, dried tobacco and minerally notes, but conveying its flavours with a textural finesse and a lightness of touch that's closer to a great Burgundy. Incredible wine, obviously very youthful but already so complex and layered with remarkable presence and persistence.
