Introduction

It was a amazing noon and afternoon at 905 aka 485° Düsseldorf with great wine affinicados. Awesome 905° team. It was a unique Clos Rougeard Le Bourg tasting down to 1995. Some great wine afterwards from the never ending list at 905. The CR wines were double decanted. Not a blind tasting. Starting with the youngest and ending with 1995. The additional wines were blind. Thanks to Chritoph, Sebastian, Benjamin, Tim, Devi , Peter and all other freaks.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 95 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

In the first flight 11,10,09 the 11 was Burgundy style, 09 more Bordeaux and 10 a mixture with some Barolo notes
In the nose some forrest ground, chilli pepper, red berries. Smoky. In the palate velvety and a little bit pointed acidity. The "weakest" in this flight, but still a lot to comein the next 20 years. I had this wine a few times in the past but this one was the fewest balanced. Still strong. 95(97)

  • 2010 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 97 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

In our group was a "fight" which one was the bigger wine. 10 or 09?
More Burgundy than Bordeaux with some violet and tar notes. The fruit is in the background but very balanced. Even the wine is reluctant it is suprising how much tension and pressure you can produce with 12,5% alc. The majority preferred the 2010, I would go for the 09. 97(99)

  • 2009 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 98 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

Both nose and palate remind me to a classical Bordeaux from a hotter year (2000 or 2005 e.g.) A lot black and red currant, some pencil and still spicy and herbal. The most "cheesy" one in this flight but with a great charme, acidity and balance. Maybe 2010 is the bigger wine in the future but now I would prefer 09. 98(99)

  • 2008 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 96 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

From the vintage 2008 down the primary notes are in the background. There is a special CR or Le Bourg style but the vintages show the difference. Some thyme and basil notes meet forrest strawberries in a concentrated and puristic way. Refreshing acidity and ripe tannins. 96

  • 2007 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 97 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

In the flight 08, 07, 06 there was a discussion between 08 and 07 which is the greater wine. many would prefer the 08. My "love" was the 07. Very dense and concentrated. A lot of pressure in the late palate. Cassis, red pepper, raw but with subtle fruit. The first aging signs to give the wine more complexity and charme. At least 20 more years. 96(97)

  • 2006 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 95 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

It feels a little riper in his acidity and tannin structure compared to the younger ones. More secondary and tertiary elements than 07 and 08. Reaching now his peak. Maybe not a long distance runner as the others. For the next 5-7 years. 94-95

Closing

The Krug 164eme edition is a stunner and even now great.
the beloved Breze 2012 and 05 so different but similar in their fun aspect. I guess 12 is the greater wine.
All Le Bourg's are at an amazing high levels with very small differences. Maybe the 2000 should be drank very soon. 2006 at his peak. My Top 3 were 2009, 2010 and 2004. 1995 shows how great they are able to age. Sometimes they remind you more Burgundy, sometimes more Bordeaux style but in reality it is a unique wine. Tremendous.
From the blind wines later on my Top 3 were Keller Pettenthal 2016 auction, Roulot Meursault Lex meix Chavaux 2005 und Kellers Abtserde 2016 Magnum.
