Phenomenal St. Emilion. Wonderful aroma of ripe black fruit and earth notes that continued in the mouth. While it may have 1-2 years left, drinking great right now. Perfect with a steak with sauteed mushrooms. Incredibly balanced on the palette.

The trade off it seems in all Derenencourt made wines - plenty, and I mean plenty, of fruit, but not much complexity. Simple, but mouth filling and generous. What's not to like, but then again, what's to get enthused about? I'm confident Derenencourt's wines will never hit the heights, but I'm also confident they will never hit the depths. Seems to me, if nothing else, always a safe bet.

PnP with Vinturi. After some time in the glass, offered a satisfying nose of red and dark berries with hints of leather and gravel. Rich deep red color showing some bricking at the rim. Full-bodied. Mid-palate flavors of berries and dark fruit with minerality; tannins softened and integrated over 30 minutes. Nice accompaniment to filet steaks Hunter's style (modified veal recipe by Bocuse). Second of three bottles - this is at its prime and moving beyond it. Rewarding, fairly complex wine at a fantastic price. I'll be looking for more of this from another vintage.

Brick color starting. Light sediment on neck. Nose and taste of Nicoise olive. Tastes like how a winery smells, which I love. Chewy. This is why Bordeaux should be aged. Beautiful wine. Wish that I had much more. Impressive value.

Opened and tried without airing decanting. Nice red fruity slate pencil nose. But perplexing at this point. Seems a bit dilute/thin across the mid palate but actually has a better finish than that. Still has plenty of time ahead. We'll see.
Five hours in this wine has fleshed out. The very red fruity mid palate has gained real weight but at the same time the tannin in the wine has become quite pronounced pretty much closing off the fruit expression of the finish.
All in all reason for optimism. I thought this wine a really fine effort when young. We may get there yet.

Not feeling this wine. Popped and poured. Completely muted nose - no fruit, some oak and a touch of dirt. Nothing happening on that front. The palate also brings nothing desirable to the table. Tannic, rusty, metallic qualities - austere bitter fruit, some branches and an overwhelming twiggyness that I really dislike. The finish is acidic, harsh and extremely abrasive. Of course, there's virtually no mid palate. HUGE pass. I'm ashamed of you CT users. I suppose this could have been an off bottle? Eh...

Almost Rhone like in its' floral juicy components. Lilac and lavender, but also licorice and lead pencil, so you know it's Bordeaux. Not jammy at all. Young but vibrant and delicious. Note on night 2, considerably more open than night one. Will try again on night 3. A great bargain and the third very good '04 I've had.

Simple Series VII: B.A.G (Burg, Alsace, German) - JT's farewell (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): I had quite forgotten that I had tried this before. It showed quite a bit better this time I thought. Modern, but still clearly a right-bank Bordeaux - no one in the table guessed otherwise. Nose showed sweet oak, some glycerol, and rich plums notes. Much the same on the palate. Modern lines, with fine, slightly powdery tannins giving some grip and some shape to rich, slightly alcoholic Merlot flavours of flowers and plums, along with a more masculine cassis note bringing up the rear. Finish was decent. Rich again, with some glycerol and touches of oak, but it had nice enough fruit and some attractive spiciness, all held in very decent balance. Should get better with age.

2010 Simple Wine Dinner Series No.7 - JT Farewell (Asia Grand @ Odeon Tower): Alcohol : 13.5% Tasted Blind. Very dark in color boost with very modern aromas of sweet dark cherry, blueberry, leather with gravel soil and mineral that is highlighted by slight alcoholic sweetness. 1st impression was a right bank but the palate that show full body, round with roasted coffee bitterness, tobacco leaf flavors and slight austere mouth feel that direct me to the left bank (I was wrong!). Though ripe, but this maintain very good freshness with its supportive acidity that went on to the medium long finishing and slight heaty undertones. A modern bordeaux that is technically right but perhaps lack of some breed. Buy - No.

Brilliant cherry red color, very aromatic with a profile of perfumed violets, dark red fruits, cedar, and sweet oak. Palate shows significant but silky tannins, with rich red fruit and an oaky influence. Nice long balanced finish with plenty of fruit. A classic bordeaux vintage meets the hand of a new world-influenced vintner with impressive results.

APFW Bordeaux Tasting (Auric Pacific, Enterprise Road): Lots of expressive macerated cherries, plums and flowers. Just threatening to shade over into confected territory. Some earthiness suggested Bordeaux, otherwise I would guess new world if served blind. Palate was okay, more sweet cherry fruit and flowers, along with some metallic mineral and spice on the mid-palate. A bit disjointed moving into the finish, but it picks itself up. Overall, a drinkable but quite anonymous wine.

Cherry red fruit on the nose with maybe some violets. Very aromatic. Rich tasty red fruit - cherry - across the palate, albeit still a bit coarse and tannic. Nice long balanced finish with plenty of fruit. Wine will get much better in maybe 4-6 years. Illustrates why 04's are described as a more classic vintage. Lacks the density and weight of the vast majority of 03's. A fine bottle.

The glue on the label just finished drying, but I thought I'd give this one a shot anyways! It was about $25, and it's still available on the shelves. Popped and poured. Dark red, almost purple and quite opaque. Rich nose with nice mineral undertones, there is a lushness in the palate that I don't usually associate with young bordeaux. The merlot shines through as being very juicy here, and while this wine lacks a little nuance currently (it's too young), it certainly has power, ripenes, and is very lush. I suspect this is a relatively low acidity wine (for bdx). Nicely done, with potential to grow with age. I'll probably buy some more to stash away if I can find some room in the cellar.
