Ganevat Dinner (San Francisco): Gorgeous nose with notes of green apples, lots of citrus, minerals, and a little bit of smoke. High acidity with more citrus notes on the palate, lemon zest, minerals, more apple and a hint of pear. Long finish. This wine has a lot of intensity and power but it's really well balanced and complex. Awesome! My favorite of this flight.

Malty nose. Rich, IPA-esque, reminiscent of the 120 Minute IPA Dogfish Head with the neon caution sign bottle cap. Somm mentioned it would be the perfect pairing with the sweetbreads, which were the most unique sweetbreads (no discredit to The Simone’s classic sweetbreads, may they rest in peace). Palate and nose mix into a hint of vanilla? Raisins (BQ note)? So many notes I don’t yet have the breadth of experience to describe. A finish of smoke and ash (?) and white grapes. @ Chambers

I'd dispatched a couple of 2009 Ganevats lately after drinking a relatively underwhelming 2009 Florine. Results have been trending upwards as one climbs the hierarchy (as usual). This was fantastic. A riper edgebecasue of vintage but this was superb - rich and fleshy, lovely acid underneath, some tropical notes, offset against that saline minerality Ganevat always seems to capture.

13%. Excellent excellent wine here. Easily mistaken as a Raveneau Grand Cru. The sheer intensity , complexity and liveliness is incredible. So much fresh orchard yellow fruits, touch of secondary complexity of roasted nut, earth and spices. Super length!

Second night, Pale gray 14k gold. Nose of light lemon oil, cold wet laundry, melted wax. The palate is ripe but tangy citrus, lemon curd, almost no oxidative taste. The finish is long and tart, increasingly rich; overall vinous rather than fruity. This is I think a very well-made wine, somewhat hard to place, reminding perhaps of an aged, full, rich Chablis. Enjoyed with brussels sprouits bacon pasta.

TN: Jura Night (Mon Ami Gabi - Chicago, IL): Made a mistake by not decanting this longer. Probably saw about 90 minutes of air before drinking it and, at first, this was a one-dimensional lemony wine. Disappointed I pushed my glass aside and decided to revisit it later. About 90 minutes later the wine had evolved a lot. More precise flavors, the alcohol toned down a bit and the fruit flavors fleshed out a bit more. I liked what this morphed into...

Note from memory. Golden color. Aroma of Green nuts, sulfure, vanilla. Rich and fresh mouth and long long final. Taste of grape fruits, bitter orange, vanilla. A hint of marine taste. Faboulous Wine. So elegant and charismatic.. (we struggled to find out if it was a pure Savagnin)

Didn't think this was on the same level as the 2008. This was a bit more fruited and denser but retained a wonderfully high level of acidity. I probably should have let this air out a bit more...the last glass was by far the most satisfying. But isn't that always the case?

Note to self: listen about the air this wine needs. Doesn't show much even 30-60 mins after double-decant. Still need to plan ahead with this one. After a fair bit of air, the goodness comes out.

Coq au Vin Jaune (NYC): Fantastic acidity and minerality that defies the reputation of the vintage. In comparison to the '08 tasted side-by-side, the flavors were more linear and acid-driven with citrus nearly everywhere you look. While this one lacked some of the stuffing that was in the '08, it was still quite balanced and delicious. It should also develop considerably with more time in the cellar.

Man, this is good. A very elegant topped up savagnin. Lovely nose: mineral, lime, light orange peel notes with a hint of nuts. Surprising acidity for the vintage, round, very long finish on lime skin (refreshing bitterness). It has the mouthfeel and focus of a very good white Burg and stays lively on the palate. I want to see how this ages !

Excellent Savagnin, with plenty of freshness, citrus and minerality. The orange peel note on the nose was also present on the palate. Great acidity and minerality. Medium+ finish and very enjoyable!

Seriously impressive, and one of the most enjoyable Jura whites I've had. There's no oxidation here; it's all about freshness and vivid minerality with rocky, dusty, saline and citrus/white fruited flavors combining together on the nose and palate. There's fantastic focus and precision here, and a lightness and finesse that brings to mind a top white Burg.

Stubborn to open up but then a nose of lime, orange peel, minerals and acetate. Intense and acid-driven with ripe, tangy limestone fruit. Gets a little creamy on the finish and leaves a lingering taste of white rocks, minerals and subtle spice. Light and elegant texture with serious mineral intensity. Seems young and should show more in time. I like this old-world style. 91+

Dinner and MMA at Dr. Culang's: If this was in an opaque glass and poured blind, I am not sure I would know from the nose alone whether this was white or red. It smelled musky, almost meaty. Good, but I am more impressed by the palate. Rocky, Savagnin goodness. The acidity just etches the flavors onto your tongue. Detailed, layered. Sturdy, confident. This is perhaps the wine of the night.

Magnifique nez complexe qui évoque les écorces d'agrumes, l'abricot, les épices douces (vanille), beurre chaud, pralin...
La bouche ne déçoit pas, fruitée et tendue à souhait, un beau gras, et une longue finale.
