Who says Chianti Classico can't age? Good example here with red cherries and plums up front. Mostly secondary notes, however, at this point of leather, forest floor, black licorice, tobacco, and fresh herbs. Still has some acidity to it and good finish. Has definitely held up over time...but time to drink up.

From Coravin, tapped and aired for an hour. Relatively shy nose but given the short time between pour and drink not surprising. Lots of cherry, oak and some degree of maturity notes. In the mouth again a lot of vivid sweet and sour cherry fruit with a touch of kernels. There's a good acdity level and some unresolved tannin. The finish is long and gives away a slightly warm impression. Overall a bit less developed than expected but this still drinks very good now.

(Decanted for one and a half hour) Deep red colour with a mature nose showing leather, cherries and some dried herbs in a very nice and classic way. Palate is filled with warm drying fruit and a round full feeling on the mid before the lengthy dried fruit bitterness takes over on the finish. This is very alcohol warm and sweet in style and at the same time already very evolved on the palate and showing tertiary notes. Best 2017-2024

Tuscan wines - dinner/tasting with fellow enthusiasts. (Maceda Restaurant - Varna): This is vivid and with so much energy, red fruits and oak fully integrated. Good balance from the acidity, full bodied, harmonious, in top condition now, I think will be gorgeous when fully matured. This was a surprise for me, as it stood up to 3 x time more expensive bottles. Usually 80/20 sangiovese/CS and moderate treatment with new oak - hence it usually appear heavy for CC, but as I said probably this type of bottle need full maturation.

(Decanted for one hour) Deep red colour with a brick red hue and a maturing nose showing cardamom at first and then opens up with sweet blueberry notes, fresh herbs and a hint of oak as well.

Dark red colour with a brick red hue. Mature nose showing cherries, forest floor and herbs. Palate still showing structure with tannins, cherries and fine fruit. Kept evolving for several hours in a nice way. This is drinking very nicely right now and was a good match with grilled fillet of lamb and chèvre potato gratin. Best 2014-2029. 92p.

A nice and ripe dried plum nose, red and black stewed fruits, rusty nails, cured meat, tar, earth, dust, sous bois, espresso, chocolate, cigar box, every now and then strawberry, burnt rubber, mint, plums again.. btw a lively long lingering fresh mineralic spin every sip you take, vibrant acidity which really is fantastic!
Raisins, some mushrooms with musty old school flavours and of course herbs and spices especially dill. elegant robe but not without corners and really very capricious..better after 2h in decanter still young! luscious and delicious - drinking well at this point P.S. last but not least: cherry and carots Great wine but could have been made in a better way... 92+

Still very youthful, quite tanic and firm at opening, needed some time to open up. This is not your typical Chianti, a bit of barrique aging and little support from Cabernet Sauvignon, make it quite powerful full bodied wine, but with enough elegance to make it just right. I quite like it, WOTN for sure.

Still youthful in colour, nose and taste. Fairly tannic, and obviously oaky. While not a classic chianti, it's a good food player with lamb racks, and a popular glass around the family party table. Most favourited of CdB 04 & 99, CdF 04 & 99. Will easily go for five years more.

Dense dark appearance - warm red to blackish hue. Bit reductive/mineral at first, then come lots of oaky notes like espresso, chocolate, caramel, charcoal, toast and mint over nondescript fruit aromas like dark cherry and plum. Herbs, flowers and stones struggle to compete with the massive toast. Taste is smooth, fatty and oaky where the freshness, youthful tannins, minerals and intensity of the great vintage eventually shines through and creates notable length. It's quite hard for us querco-phobiacs to sympathize with the obviously overdone style, but in case you can live with excessive extraction and oak bitterness, this -04 isn't all bad - rather quite good - but deserves downgrading for clumsy handling of wood and blurring of tuscan identity and purity. By tasting 8 months young cask samples of the great '10 vintage, we know they have some excellent material. In our opinon, Barone Ricasoli had better cut down their use of toasted french barriques.

Only 375ml bottle for this year. Great persona of aromatic flora of ripe berries, overcooked raspberry jam, cassis, oak, Tuscan mushrooms, w/hints of vegetal green herbs. Pretty obviously few layers of structured layers hitting the palate, somewhat more gripping tannin and acid compared to 2003. Medium finish. Need more time for ageing for a fair assessment. Cherry, strawberry, graphite and meat on the nose. Nice and somewhat balanced oak influence. Medium bodied with refreshing acidity and semi-grippy grainy tannins. Sour cherry, spinach, herbs and leather with some nice dusty oak influence. Surprisingly light.
