(2010 Bruno Clair tasting with two reference wines) Full and deep nose. Lovely. Very, very spicy. Plum and strawberry. Wet earth and Gevrey iron minerality. But also a haunting perfume-like hint. Medium-fullish, fullish palate. Quite rich. A bit austere but with ripe tannins. Concentrated and long. Blood, iron and curry. Very Gevrey. Best wine in the Clair line-up. Just beginning its drinking window. Drink or hold 10+ years.

Notation difficile. 89-91?

Bastille Day Celebration with Lots of Champagne Rosé (Park Ridge Country Club): Small glass, brief note. Like so many 2010, this is no powerful, but a masterpiece of elegance and balance. Almost seems simple to start, this gets bigger, bolder and denser within seconds. So long with roasted meat coming through with bolder, blacker fruit on its long finish. Just barely entering its drinking window, 93-94 point potential.

Expressive nose with etheral raspberry, red cherry and spice. Medium-bodied, with firm and somewhat drying tannins, high acidity and a very long aftertaste. Very youthful, needs time.

2009 and 2010 CSJ Horizontals Tasting: Tasted with all 2009 and 2010 Clos St Jacques. Bright ruby. Nose a little more muted than the 2010 Fourrier or Rousseau CSJ but attractive aromas of spice, musk, red cherries, redcurrants and raspberry, with a top note of violets. On palate, very primary and a little shut down. Fresh with nice attractive acids, well balanced, with real back palate intensity and good length. Very polished, fine tannins with flavours in the red berry spectrum. Hard to score at this stage, and needs long term cellaring but, largely on potential, 93.

Les Domaines Familiaux de Bourgogne (Paris): Not as warm and smooth as the SlB or Marsannay, a bit more structure and less evo yet, a bit more serious and complex, however not an acidic or challenging wine, very reliable quality

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting. Almost identical to what i recall from when tasted late last year. Slightly floral and spiced start, lots of black fruit aromas and flavors. Very well balanced and textured throughout, this seems approachable now but has lots of hidden power.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. A step up on the (very good) Cazetiers, this has a slightly tasty, floral start with lots of black fruit aromas and some liqueur hints. Similar flavor profile, well textured and powerful on finish.
