  • This is darned good now. As in prior notes, a little thin for a 1er on opening, with signature Pernand sandy tannins, very fine-grained - as befits the quality of this vineyard - and tart cherry. Hand-in-hand with the Pernand tannins goes a palpable sense of density, which is moderate here. The whole package is very clean, balanced, and pure, especially the cherry flavors, and the thinness dissipates somewhat after a night in the 'fridge. A very nice adjunct from Ile to the versions produced by Chandon dB and Rollin; a bit like an imagined Jadot with more elegance. A good surprise after previous showings. At $65 for the 2019, not the value it was in 2010, but reasonably priced, relative to Iles from other good vignerons.

  • Pure black cherry fruit, an underpinning of earth, minerals and barnyard. Near fully resolved tannins and fresh acidity lead to a clean finish. Absolutely delicious.

  • Quite tight with acidity and light tannic layer on opening, muted red fruit, mineral, earth, with a sensation of being caught midway between fresh and aged--slight brick to red color, and musky hints. I wondered where is this going? Decanted 45 minutes, drank over two hours with and after dinner. Opened up nicely with air time, raspberry, darker berry, red fruit, balanced and crisp acidity, good length. Any muskiness dissipated, the mineral/earth backdrop was good, the fruit lovely and rich, clean and transparent on the palate, nice mix of fresh and more distilled, as L-C noted, liqueur. Good length.
Excellent with rack of lamb/mint pesto, and after on its own. One year+ since Fitzi/L-C tasting notes, and it seems this is still developing--decant or slow ox for it to shine.

  • Per my experience, L.-C.'s note captures this wine's present state about exactly right, though mine took a bit more air exposure to come into focus. A lovely glass to take cool in small sips while reading or watching a movie. Not structured and classic like Chandon de Briailles; less dense and pithy than Rollin; on its own terms, a charmer that delights with quiet finesse.

  • Intense nose of sweet poached raspberries and quetsch, sous-bois and some rasperry liqueur notes. In the mouth medium bodied, concentrated and with fine, but firm tannins that are not yet resolved. Lively flavours, very good length. Overall this is really very good and I think could gain a little more with some more cellar time, but is already delicious now. Give it a bit time to open up though. 90-91 pts.

  • This was probably better younger. Good cork, good appearance but harsh in the mouth. Not because it needs more time, just out of balance or something.

edit: I was a bit harsh yesterday. The other half, put into a screw cap halfbottle overnight, is better, less harsh. My mark is augmented now. There's still something in the middle palate that has morphed into texture, so it's more enjoyable.

I'm surprised that there were 70 views overnight. I hope I didn't alarm anybody who has stashes of this wine!

  • Raspberry fruit with some meat and compost notes. Good depth and chalky structure. Fresh and youthful with a chewy and long finish.

  • This was pretty good, if a bit stiff.

  • Very enjoyable at 10 years old.

  • Medium light body, strawberry ruby in color, with a slight tinge of brick red; the flavors are on the higher toned side, emphasizing strawberry and raspberry, with a fair amount of somewhat jammy sweetness coming through, along with light hints of rocky, stemmy tannins. Quality wine, but a bit too high toned and sweet for my tastes. Not sure I see this developing into something of great interest down the line, I think it will just soften and turn more strawberry sweet.

  • Light in color, slightly rough acid streak, which self-amends with air time. Flavor is good-ish, more stone than fruit. This wine seems rather thin for the appelation, and does not overtly display the characteristics you'd think would indicate a lot of future development. Still, surprising, unsuspected development is one of the hallmarks of Burgundy, in my humble experience, and I extend benefit of the doubt to the vineyard, which has a distinguished reputation.

Alternative hypotheses, 2010 not a year for long cellaring; or the producer (with whom my experience is nascent) lacks the skill or inclination to reach for its potential in the growing or elevation.

  • PnP Medium crimson color. Reserved nose with some floral red fruit. Rock solid little Burg that I doubt will ever be a rock star but who knows. I have 2 more and will try my next one around 2020. Placid, accessible, pure, fresh but perhaps a little reserved right now and likely closing down. Classically styled. Nice value at $35.

  • Lovely wine, prettier than I expect from this area, but still packed with cherry fruit and earth. Very, very nice.

  • This a very good alternative to Chandon Brailles. Not as rustic or "pure" as CdB but a little bit more sap to it, the fruit is a little more polished/clean. Not lacking in structure, minerality or acidity! My best guess, this was holding back a bit and might start to close down and certainly has the goods for a positive evolution.

  • Medium to light ruby. Not much on the nose, but very clean flavors of strawberry and cherry with strong minerality and well balanced acidity. Medium finish and silky mouthfeel. Very nice.

  • Pretty and silky. It's showing a touch of cedary pencil-shavings from the oak but otherwise it is fairly restrained and pure in an open-knit, easygoing style. The fruit is probably less primary, more floral and airy in comparison to my last note on this. I might have wanted to see some more minerality or earthiness as the site can sometimes deliver.

  • Reticent nose, some raspberry. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Red fruited, accented by baking spice and light tannin. Again a bit more fruit forward than I expect from '10s but with plenty of material to suggest positive development.

  • Bright, layered, stony nose with lots of red currant. very impressive and built to age...deep and refined

  • Pernand-Vergelesses Rouges (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Solid nose. Excellent palate, but I'm left wishing for more depth.

  • Opened for a 2010 Burgundy tasting dinner, this wine showed very well, with pleasant, generous aromatics and surprisingly accessible fruit on the palate, tending towards the dark end of the fruit spectrum - cherries, plums, etc. A babe, but worth opening one now if you have several. The house style contrasts with that of Chandon de Briailles, which ferments with stems, producing a tauter, more structured and elegant Ile, at least in youth.

  • 2010 Burgundies Blind (Lavandou): Poured blind. Slightly more restrained than the wine before it, which turned out to be the Faiveley Cazetiers, but it's still richly fruited with a kind of cigar-box smokiness going on. I have some of these so I'll have to have a bottle by itself to get a better read on it, but it's nice to have another solid Ile producer.
