Medium ruby with a touch of garnet around the edges. Pronounced aromas of herbs and dark cherry. Wonderful sweet cherries with a savoury note on the palate. Medium acidity with subtle resolved tannins. A lovely freshness made this so drinkable. Still has more to reveal i think. Will try another next year.

Definitely in a sweet spot right now. Still some primary fruit but layered with wet earth, moss, dried flowers, leather, and sweet spice. Polished, clean Nebbiolo, in a semi-modern style. Will definitely benefit from time in a decanter or 5 additional years in bottle. Delicious.

Served with Christmas lunch, and unfortunately was a victim of the heat, when I likely should have stuck with the whites. Ok wine and starting to lose some of the baby fat, though there was some oak that seemed to be sneaking through. Have had better for the cash.

I'm leaning to the somewhat more traditional style of Barolo, but this is certainly a really well-crafted wine, ready to go after giving it 30 minutes of air.

Medium reddish ruby in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & raspberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, some tar, leather, mushrooms, minerals, spices, dried herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & mulberries with dried herbs, minerals, earthy & a hint of oak. Lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing & at 11 years of age, still has the potential to develop further with additional aging if cellared properly.

Lovely, ready to drink Barolo. Wonderful integration of fruit, acids and tannins. Served with a spectacular dish of bolognese (Thanks Jen!). For a middle tier barolo from a storied house, this smokes the scales for price to value. Glad I've been patient. My remaining bottles bring anticipation.

Medium garnet. Tar, marzipan and orange peel. There is also some cherry that is quite prominent on the palate. Long finish. Tannins are quite ripe, beautiful acidity keeping the wine fresh. Did not decant, just did a long pour in riedel burgundy glasses. No sediment. Paired with osso bucco. Very pleasant wine.

This is very good, but too young right now and in a bit of a closed phase. The nose initially is quite closed, but slowly opens to reveal bright red fruit, tobacco, minerality, hints of floral notes, and anise. The palate is tight and the tannins are still quite present. I think this needs another 6-10 years to really come into its own.

Decanted for 1 hr. Ruby, with garnet-brick coloration, slow moving legs @ 14.5% abv. Aromas of roses, red fruit, leather, cedar. Multi-dimensional palate of cherry, rose, leather, pencil shavings, licorice. Elegant and layered. Stern, very long finish and youthful acidity with lively tannins giving this Barolo a spectacular balance. Another decade of cellaring potential. Had it with venison loin prepped by Francine: touching the stars!

Primary, somewhat reticent bouquet of traditional rose petals and tar, along with integrating oak. Tightly wound upon opening, even the tannins were restrained. After an hour of air it came alive; after four hours it became a monster of a wine, massively structured, dense, and brooding. Very young, with an significant upside. Recommend holding until 2018; drink through 2028-2030. 93-94.

Majeka House Tasting - Italy (Stellenbosch): Tasted blind: Mid garnet to bricking edge. Lifted aromas of rose oil, raw meat, black olive, tar, redcurrant - touch of VA. Crisp acidity, chalky texture and firm slightly bitter-dry tannins pointing to Barolo but underpinned by a fairly dense frame. There is a savoury, somewhat volatile component that seems to work with a generous warming alcohol. The wine has little flesh that makes it feel quite tight structurally. Yet roses, bitter chocolate and some red fruits seem to help a little. The finish is relatively long but retains a puckering, almost sour cherry skin feel to it.

Decanted for 2 hours Eye: resdish-brown core to a rusty blood orange rim Nose: Cherries, earth and slightly mineral Palate: Ripe reduced cherry, tobacco and tar with med+ acidity, still firm tannins and long finish. It was every bit of the 14.5% as indicated on the label
Overall this was a beautiful example of Barolo! This wine has at least 3-5 years before it hits its peak. Patience will be rewarded but if that is not an option i strongly suggest 4hrs+ to decant. Enjoy!

My 94 comes two days after the bottle was opened. We opened it at A Voce in NYC on Saturday, drank two glasses and liked it, but knew it was not ready. We corked it and took it home and let it sit for two days. Enjoyed the rest with a selection of Italian cheeses and it was sublime, combining notes of smoke, fig, cherry and a hint of a summer day with cicadas chirping while you are walking on a sunny, dusty road with friends on your way to a picnic. It is wonderful. I will hunt this down and put it in the cellar for three years before touching.
Very juicy on the nose. A little hint of licorice, as well as lots of ripe plums and raspberries on the nose. On the palate, this is also very fruity and fresh, albeit restrained. Delicious drinking now with lots of fresh red fruit notes -- a very nice vein of acidity and easy-going tannins. Excellent for early drinking.

Smells of dark purple fruits, sweet black cherry, vanilla & spicy notes. Tastes of black bitter chocolate at the open and then evolves into a balanced wine of red currants & cherry spice. Heavy tannins – needs more time in the bottle. Full-bodied.

Decanted for about an hour, and it helped open this lovely Barolo. It showed all of what others have noted, plus some substantial weight that was more than I expected. Lovely and worth buying again to age for a few years.

Splash decanted at a restaurant. Though moderately tight presently, I really liked the flavor profile here with the prominent dried flowers and cherries being complimented nicely by leather, dried tobacco leaf, and earthy notes. Slightly tart with marked acidity, there is excellent structure to go along with that lovely flavor profile that points to this having a very bright future. Just a baby, this should gain a point or two once it loosens it grip and unpacks all the goodies. Paired exceptionally well with veal scaloppini. 91++

This wine was tasted in double-blind fashion, with the bottle kindly being provided to our tasting group by M.S. Medium-to-deep garnet in color, it has a somewhat reluctant nose of pomegranate, coriander, tobacco and licorice. The wine is tightly wound, acidic and unyielding on the palate, with acceptably well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%) but dense, dry tannins which will need some time to settle down. The medium-length finish is tart and astringent. This is a traditionally-styled Barolo which will require some patience. It may merit a higher score in the future. Drink 1/18-12/30.

this was best when just opened, and I felt it closed down a little after that (and never re-emerged). Nose was great and classic with cherry, flowers and tar. On palate pretty red fruit with licorice and earth. If I rated it just on first 30 minutes it may merit a point or two more.

Red cherry, strawberry, graphite, new leather, raw button mushrooms, licorice, earth, and some flowers on the nose. Black, red, and tart cherries, earthy leathery notes, spice, and a bit of tobacco on the palate. Good acidity and very good finish. Tannic, but quite drinkable right now. Delicious. Overall, this wine was very pretty, delicious, and approachable. I loved it, especially on day one. Went great with pasta with mushrooms, spinach, and truffles.

It was beauty in a glass. At first wiff the wine reminded me of standing in a field of flowers, strong and fragrant. Next came the succulent red fruit mixed with tart red cherry and spice. Lastly there were undertones of mushroom freshly plucked from the forest floor. On the palate full-bodied yet silky smooth. Tangy red fruit mixed with spice and leather. Enjoyable!!

Lovely Cherry, licorice, violet, & green herbs on the nose. I believe this needs some time but does go well now after decanting & enjoying with a meal. Wonderful balance between acidity & tannin. Palate shows stewed strawberry, earth, tarragon & parsley, & tart cherries on the finish. Tannins are very firm at this point.

A Visit To Vietti (Vietti, Castiglione Falletto): Dark strawberry and maple syrup scents settle above spicy notes of grapefruit and cinnamon. When tasted, there’s a great burst of dark strawberry flavor on the mid palate. The length on the finish is impressive. Big acidity and vanilla stick around for the full experience. It runs across the palate in three layers, with the nice strawberry flavors sitting upon a structured center of firm tannins and underlined by some vanilla from the oak. Small sips in quick succession make the tannins grip too tightly for my taste, but slow sipping allows everything to work pretty well together. I think this will be very significantly improved with a bit of age as the tannins back off a bit. That said, the complexity and fruit flavors are still quite enjoyable now.

nose: tight, but fragrant nose of cherries, roasted herbs, tar, roses and strawberries. Nice depth, though it is somewhat unyielding right now.
taste: medium/full bodied with medium/high acidity and some very chewy tannins. Well balanced with very nice tones of red cherries, strawberries, roasted herbs and roses.
overall: This certainly needs a few years. A pretty wine that should reveal some nuance with age.

Italy 2012 - Piemonte; 7/8/2012-7/14/2012 (La Morra): Tasted at the winery. Nice nose of ripe cherries and berries, floral and clove. This mid to full weight Barolo offers loads of acidity, firm and fine tannins all wrapped in a refined and classic profile. Well balanced and generous, but structured and firm. Needs 5-7+ years. Excellent. 90+

Clear, pale garnet color with slow legs is followed by a clean nose of medium intensity showing a fully developed wine. Aromas of red fruits, dried fruit, wet tobacco, and a medicinal iodine quality is quite pleasant. The palate is dry with medium acidity, and medium-plus, body, tannins, alcohol, flavor intensity, and length. The aromas follow through to the palate along with some tar. This is a very good nebbiolo that is drinking well now and not likely to change through additional aging.

7 days in Italy.; 6/16/2012-6/22/2012 (Italy): Bright fruit focus to the aromas. Again, strawberry into cherry fruit, nuanced orange peel. More mineral than the 09 Perbacco. Herb and spice. Adds more mouthful and caress. I'll have to diverge from WillSka's findings and say that this youthful wine (fully developed? Have we been handed the same homework?) will indeed benefit from additional time in bottle. Drink to 2024.

Integrated and well balanced. Intense. Complex and smooth long finish. Easy to drink for a young Barolo. Yummy. Acid, Complexity, So2

Floral aromas upon uncorking but very tight. 10 minutes and body begins to reveal. Dark cherry plum slight prune finish. Slightly hot. 5-8 secs finish, maybe will open up more.

Pretty ruby, almost see through; floral, sweet oak, rose, licorice, cedar, pretty nose; cherry, soft tannin, structure is a bit of a mystery.

Kelly and Kevin’s excellent adventure before WWS 2012; 11/4/2012-11/11/2012 (La Morra): Pretty, round, mineral and subtle. Warm red fruits, strawberry and cedar. It is already approachable, fine detail and precision. Not a big wine but very enjoyable.

nose: tight, but fragrant nose of cherries, roasted herbs, tar, roses and strawberries.
