P/P at Acre: a bit tight and a hint of funk to start, then quickly opens up with medium body and texture, great mixed red berry fruit density, and good clean earth. A bit of je ne sais quoi complexity as well. I don't notice any oak. Really great with food. In a great place right now.

Four hour decant, the nose hints at earth, bacon fat and cherry. The palate has fine grained tannins and well placed acidity with a medium mouthfeel and a long finish. Dark Cherry, dark earth and bloody meat are in the forefront. Not up to the level of a La La but clearly a step up from the their basic offering, an excellent bottle.

Mature, must drink!, but still in a good spot. The vintage character comes out with a lot of heat, concentration on top of mature leather, typical syrah mushroom, herbs and a bit farmyard. Very nice but less fresh than few years ago

Another reason why Rhône has been my fav’ region for 25 years. Wow, what a treat! After a one hour decant, Nose offers cassis, herbal chocolate mint, blood enriched pork adobo, wet compost, and lilac. Great structure, ample tannins start grainy, but soon soften without shortening. Pink peppercorns, kidney/iron, black olive paste, black granite dust, and blackberry x blueberry hybrid with just enough hashy skunkiness. High cocoa semi bitter dark chocolate, lead pencil, and boysenberry on the 40 second finish. Paired beautifully w Parkers Steak and kidney pie, and ginger/miso/truffle honey glazed rainbow carrots. 10 years of great drinking ahead, but in its near perfect midpoint between primary and secondary flavors, there’s no reason to wait. Respect it with a great pairing!!

Dark fruit, pepper and smoked flesh on the nose. Well balanced wine, medium+ body, medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. Taste of plum, pepper and flesh with a very long aftertaste. The next bottle will be in the cellar for atleast another five years.

This is impressive stuff with a long life ahead. Ageing is just starting to show but really on the small scale. Body is packed with dark fruit, plums and cassis. Refreshing acidity together with quite distinct however balanced/integrated oaky notes, more than I would expect which make this a little bordeaux like. But the syrah notes with flesh and smokiness is also there. Finish is long and very balanced. This is a big wine for me!
Dark, some what purple. Nose of Slightly underripe dark berries, slight green or bitter crushed nuts, some sweet spice but firmly kept in check by fresh nutty and fruity notes. M body, fresh acidity, mostly secondary notes in taste,

Powerful nose, revealing a heavy rhone wine. Muscles also shown on palate mainly covered with black forest fruits, viola, black pepper and fresh herbs. Wine still a bit young but appears as a bit complex with nice presence of tannins. Will save 2nd bottle for 5years at least as it clearly has more to offer

An excellent showing for this bottle. Very dark red color. The nose was generous, with a hint of wood framing beautiful black and blue fruit, pepper, and spice notes. In the mouth, surprisingly refined. A powerful wine, but the balance is impeccable. Still quite chewy on the finish, but this is really excellent. A-/A

This is a beautiful wine that is near perfect for its concentration level. I love the sweet and savory aromas of blackberry preserves, black olives, bacon, leather, and pepper. Hints of lavender and orange zest. Somehow all of this combines into a seamless wine that is even a little feminine in nature. Tannins are perfect to my tastes.
I think the reason this wine is so delicious is largely due to the sweet primary fruit. For that reason, I recommend drinking it now. Of course, you could age it for a decade if you prefer.
This is world class, top 1% wine. This is a wine that reminds me why I'm never going to give up drinking wine, health studies be damned.
Very dark red color. Drank a glass via Coravin over 3 hours. This was seriously tight, and I even wondered if it might be corked for awhile. After 2 hours in glass this finally started to come around. Not in time for dinner, but at least it's ok. Fresh cut cedar, dark brooding fruit, dried earth, coriander,. The palate is full bodied, cool dark fruit, blackberry, black cherry skin, tart, bit of a clipped finish with tannins that have some firmness. Quite young, score reserved, will revisit remainder with a decant and update.
Updated 6/2/20. Opened and drank 2 glasses over 4 hours. Interestingly similar to what I noted on the Coravin pour. Incredibly tight, woody and reticent. And that same odd note on the palate that made me wonder a bit if this was right. An hour plus in and it is coming around. Two hours and now you see some character. Oak, Black fruit, pepper, graphite, Blackberry, crushed rock and dried coriander, tart black cherry, plush tannins, medium finish. Needs serious air. 91pts.
Showed well tonight lots of dark berrries, spruce, dark wet stones, palate is silky smooth still quite a bit of structure, medium acidity and a long finish, lots of pleasure now but this will last another 15-20 years

Poured and the color is blueberry. Wife tasted blind and guessed French Syrah. Correct! So it is what you would expect from a Syrah from Northern Rhone. Blueberry, roasted meats, leather, dark cherries, huckleberry reduction, raspberries, chalky limestone. Smooth tannins. Great now and will only get better.

I was quite disappointed with this wine, especially for the price. Not a bad wine, but a bit insignificant. Not much to say, except that the structure and texture were fine. Discrete leather/spice aromas. Medium length. Won't buy again. Obviously not the same experience than for other tasters.

Blind tasting of wines from Northern Rhône. Rather distinct notes of black cherries, morello cherries, licorice, graphite, leather, black olive tapenade and slightly stewed fruits on the nose. Full-bodied and focused, with noticeable yet silky-smooth and ripe tannins. A few notches up on the more alcoholic side. Still appears rather young. Flavors of black cherries, olives, clove, licorice, leather and roasted meat on the palate. Long-lingering aftertaste of dark fruits and juicy spiciness. The potential is clearly there. 93+
Righto, the only bottle I took home with me after the tasting, so that I might have another look at this the next day. After an overall wait of 3 days: bouquet now consists mainly of black cherries, licorice, graphite and sous bois. The alcohol is less prominent now and much better integrated. The wine appears dark, brooding, more persistent and full of depth now. Very enticing and promising. 94

Westchester Wine School - Premium Wine Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS tasting. Deep purple color. Nose of black cherry with forest aromas. Surprisingly enjoyable wine, and voted #2 WOTN by the WWS crowd.

Open an hour before serving. Black cherry, blackberry aromas with some cassis, briar patch and herbs de provence. Same fruit profile that is very ripe and powerful. Powerful, berry-dominated and elegant nose with ripe blackberries and some blueberries, liquorice with some mint liquorice, violets and some perfume, pepper, and some herbaceous note, as well as a discrete and well integrated oak barrel note. With some time, some animal notes emerge. Palate with powerful berry aromas, noticeably tart note, some tar and spice, very well integrated medium(+) tannins, tart and berry-dominated aftertaste with blackberries and some tannin. Good concentration and fine balance, drinks well now "on the fruit", but has a long life ahead of it. 93(+) p. The Vignes de l'Hospice is usually a fine wine with good concentration, but in more of a "straight on" style than the Guigal wines from Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie. In this vintage is a bit more complex and elegant than usual.

Winemaker's dinner with Philippe Guigal (Operakällaren, Stockholm): Dark red with purple notes. Nose with ripe blackberries and blackcurrants, flowery notes with violets and some perfume, liquorice. Elegant! Medium bodied+, palate with ripe blackberries, quite concentrated, flowery notes with violets, velvety medium(+) tannins, good acidity. Young, but reasonably approachable now, 93(+) p. Vignes de l’Hospice is usually a good wine with a straightforward Rhône Syrah character, built primarily on power rather than complexity and elegance. However, in this vintage the wine shows a polished and elegant character that I haven’t encountered before. The 2010 simply shows quite a lot of Hermitage style, in particular by the very velvety structure of its tannins. The 2009 (which I scored 93+ last year) was more powerful and darker in its aromas, but not as finely polished.
This is a wine I really like! This vintage is not as flirty “all – in” and fruity as the 2009, but more sophisticated, a bit like the 2008. Still, the nose is full of ripe and deep fruit and smoked meat. The palate is very structured, with very luxurious fruit profile, elegant, balanced and long. Some minerals showing. Not as sweet, jammy and fully packed as the 2009, but more elegant and cool. Lovely but young, with good aging potential.
