Very nice wine, but still a bit tucked in on itself. Silky smooth, creamy, very well made indeed. As others have said, simply too young at the moment. Will it flower well, and give the pleasure that it seems to suggest, or will it dry out? All that aside, what on earth is the current market value all about? There is no way that the prices being charged make sense.... Each to their own, I suppose....

Palooza part 2; 7/8/2021-7/10/2021 (Marco Island/Naples): Hard to rate this one as it was not only infanticide, but be pnp'd it at the table. Unmistakeably Angelus, but needs some time for the oak to integrate and mellow out. I would have loved to try this on day 2. Next time I might sneak a 4 oz glass bottle along to dinner...
Final, bonus bottle of the night, also popped tableside half way through the meal and enjoyed through the end of the meal into dessert.....dark purple in the glass, excellent medium heavy viscosity with a beautiful dark berry nose with great perfumed florals initially. I really enjoyed the more 'modern' smooth feel to this wine after the two older BDXs earlier. I think even a Cali cab drinker would like this one where it is right now. This was quite pleasant with no harsh edges whatsoever. Clearly, this has many years ahead of it and who knows how many points it adds? For a somewhat 'off' year it was quite nice!
Decanted for 3 hours. Immediate impression was that this was remarkably smooth and tannins were very integrated. Drinking well now for my tastes, and complex. Really enjoyed this.
Pretty wine. Nice scents of wood, oversteeped black tea and jam. Surprisingly not very fruity taste. More light than supple on the texture. Berries, garden mulchy and some tobacco with soft tannins but great acidity. Easy drinker and tastes solid with pork rillette. Probably not gonna get better with more age.

Quite intense and wild aromas with red raw berries, deep salt nerve, pepper, light greenish spice notes and this distinct aroma image of licorice.
Lovely touch on the wine that goes into quite a hefty mass with dark powerful berries of tight cool plums, blackberries, heavy tar, licorice, clear wood and vanilla. Fine acidity and solid tannins that clothe the wine. Wine that really shows structure and gives a lot of Bordeaux feeling, but which now lacks some nerve and finesse. Give the wine time in the cellar to cool down a bit. 94 points. For now. (94-96 points)
Very basic notes from Wine Spectator Grand Tour in Vegas. WS score: 92 Favorite of the night. Delicious forrest berries, plum, sweet leaf tobacco, graphite. Great balance. Would buy.

Don’t turn your nose up at 2011s... the drink remarkably well for a lesser vintage. This was delicious right out the gate showing deep dark fruit and smooth tannins. Is this the wine of a life time no. But it drinks so well. It’s super likable no matter who you are.
Aromatics of fresh black fruits - blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, dark plum. Ripe and forward.
The palate is structured. Medium ++ tannin, med + acidity, and med plus body. Closed and dry mid palate. Detecting notes of black fruits, espresso, dark chocolate, thyme and sage. Dense, and stuffing.
This wine has a long way to go. It probably did not show very well, given that it's been opened for less than an hour before tasting. Understandable as we were the first appointment (10am) at the Chateau that day. I hope to catch this wine again soon for a proper treatment. 89+?
I must admit I felt a certain sense of disappointment when the 2011, a wine which had not previously crossed my path, was on the table at the chateau. But, nose in glass, I recant! This is utterly fabulous. Blackberry, plum, hints of violet poking out, a refreshing mineral streak, leather accents, and beautifully integrated oak. I admit to having had doubts about where the chateau was headed based on some quite oaky 2004 and 2007, but this doesn't bear any resemblance to those wines. I usually detest wines > 13.5%, but I never in a million years would have found the 14.5% in this wine. It's that well balanced. This brilliant modern rendition of Angelus should be laid down for another 10 years (minimum) unless you're curious and have a bunch. Bravo, bravo.
WS Grand Tour 2018, New York. Mid to dark ruby, some sediment. Sexy and inviting nose. Blue and dark berries, joined by chocolate, with a shot of espresso. Not the most complex of tonight's wines, but plush and well-balanced, with very fine tannin and superb length. There is a minty note on the finish. Very drinkable. Very intriguing!
WS Grand Tour in NYC (Marriott Marquis): Have yet to get wow’ed the way I would expect from this producer given the reputation and this was no different. Very tight wine. Mostly tasted of tannin. Not clear that there’s much going on behind that. Hard to tell if this could develop into much.
Tasting: This really opened up after 1-2 hours and was a bit new worldish, but I still really liked it. Only my second Angelus, previously 2008, but one certainly recognizes the modern style after having tried this wine two times.

Château Angélus tasting with Hubert de Boüard (Wine Watch, Fort Lauderdale, Florida): Still in its early stages of maturation. The Grand Tour - day four (Bordeaux): Concentrated and brooding, Prunes and plums, ridiculously rich, sweet and spicy with chocolate and a little alcohol heat, cream, cedar. Dark and brooding fruit. Juicy, broad on the mid palate, velvety tannins, beautifully balanced. Long with spice joining the finish. Opulent is what the guide says and I'm inclined to agree. I'm almost regretting flogging that half case now...almost...

Dark in colour, purple around the rim. Dark fruit on the nose, smoky oak with a nice floral note. Quote precise and elegant. On the palate quite approachable in comparison, really spicy with good fruit and length. The nose showed fresh cedar up front, with crushed red berry, sweet cinnamon spice, grilled herbs and graphite. On the palate, it was silky at first, yet gained grip as it traveled across the senses with notes cherry and red licorice. The finish was long with concentrated red fruit coating the senses along with mineral intensity. It will be interesting to follow this vintage of Angelus, as its structure is very forward today, yet there’s an amazing concentration of fruit to balance it out.

Very modern. Nose of coffee and liqorice, too much wood for my taste. Had it alongside Latour, Leoville Las Cases, Lafleur Petrus, La Mission Haut Brion, and it stood out for me as the most modern and pumped wine. On the palate it was very full bodied but a bit disjointed with the acidity poking out, and the high alcohol burnt through the fruit. A monster wine, but not very pleasant. Unfortunate that this is apparently the prevailing taste (it became upgraded last year alongside Cheval Blanc and Ausone, where it does not belong in my opinion).

Forward, charming, polished and poised, with a core of sweet, ripe back cherries, licorice, espresso and earth, this supple textured wine is quite strong for the vintage.
52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Franc create the blend, which reached 13.9% alcohol. Deep in color with fresh floral aromas complicated by licorice, plum, boysenberry, coffee, truffle, cocoa and smoke. Round tannins and soft textures leave a plush impression on the palate with corpulent layers of black cherry liqueur and dark chocolate. 93-95 Pts
