Quite enticing bouquet with dark fruit notes (blue and blackberries), cherry pits as well as herbs, lavender and some palisander. The palate has an burgundian apeal and nicely integrated tannins. This brunello is pretty much at its peak but will easily develop for another decade.

Poured into red burg glasses via Coravin. Initial impression was of strong acidity and noticeable fruit, but not much tannic character (making it relatively ready to go right out of the gates). The acidity mellowed out over time with air but remained prominent. Overall was less tannic and structured than other similar-aged Brunellos. Very pleasant, and ultimately held up ok to grilled steaks, but definitely not a big, brawny Brunello. Probably better to pair with a red sauce dish than a grilled steak.

Slow-oxed 2hrs prior to dinner in burg glasses & btl before dinner. Can’t believe its been almost 10yrs since my first btl! This is now in full bloom.& exquisite. Semi translucent ambered red w/ about 1/4” clear perimeter. I think this is at very near peak 15yrs out. But, I doubt it falls off the edge before 2027. One left to find out in 3 to 5yrs. We loved its resolved elegance and tertiary nose & palate tonight with takeout pizza from Rustica in Santa Fe tonight reminiscing from meeting a very special 84yr old volunteer this morning at Pecos National Historic Park Pueblo who reminds us what a treasure our senior citizens are! Jan was Alec Baldwin's English teacher and such a joy to meet today.

Dark ruby in color. Expressive aromatics of violets, liqueur soaked cherries, leather and tar/smoke on the nose. Quite ripe and mouth coating showing sweet smoky dark berries, savory leather notes, good acidity and silky tannins and a long perfumed finish. This is drinking very well.

Nice wine, but rather not in total sync with general perception of quality compared to the price and marketing hype. Certainly nicely structured by now, fully integrated and nice to drink. More Burgundy style, but lacking depth despite decant. Though nicely balanced and displaying a finely layered aromatic structure.

Decanted one hour ( but may not have needed it). Fully mature, very elegant, medium to light bodied. Just lovely, my kind of wine. Delicate, red berry and currant, earth, bark, licorice. Wouldn’t wait any longer. Drink up. A bit of a shame to drink it with food. Agree fully with Keithakers review ( and he nailed the flavors better than I could).

Translucent bricking burgundy in color. Medium plus in body Balsamic, figs, charcuterie, old wood, hints of black licorice. Nicely balanced, and in its drinking window. Longish finish. Tastes like the nose, although more leather, and stewed fruit notes. A wonderful wine that is in its drinking window for sure.

Nose: The nose is so deep, savory, and layered with plums, dark red cherries, cranberries, violets, tobacco, wet clay, savory herbs, crushed rocks, currants, aged balsamico, and wild flowers.
Taste: The feel is medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The feel has a satin-like quality to it while the structure still shows some youth with plums, dark red cherries, savory herbs, crushed rocks, currants, violets, aged balsamico, and wild flowers.
Overall: Simply put, this is gorgeous. There is a polished side to this, but this also beautifully shows off the elegant side of Sangiovese. This was something else after about an hour in the decanter.

The clear with some sediment, deep concentration and a purple center with a brown brick colour and a blueish edge. Extracting is medium, and tearing is heavy.
The intensity on the nose is moderate and vinous with red and blue fruit that is dominated by red plumb, sour cherry, raspberry and blackberry. The fruit is dried and there are also some notes of tomato leaf, and black tea.
The wine is dry and the palate is consistent with the nose. The tannins are medium+, acid is high, alcohol is medium+, the body is full with a lean texture, medium+ complexity and finish.

Pnp, a prior note said reminiscent of pinot, couldn't agree more, for me hinting of Burgundy. Nose has a purity to the fruit that beckons Burgundy, ther is some earthiness and subtle florals as well. Palate is framed by nicely balanced acidity and firm but elegant tannin, dark cherry and mineral mid palate. On the feminine side touching on a bit thin mid palate. Finish is medium to short, this wine has a great purity and balance. For me not evocative of Italy but a very good wine none the less.
Interestingly the next day this feels much more Italian. The color went more to a brick red, the nose showing some balsam notes, the palate filled out and more plum and dried herb character. Much more what I expected from this wine. Very interesting evolution and shows promise for the future.

Drank on November 17 2019 and our experience was similar to the note from Mattmauldin below. Medium to light bodied and very elegant. A bit tannic but smoothed out over the hour. Did not have a big bold nose such as the poggio alle mura 2007 reserve we also drank recently. This had a medium to dark red fruit taste with a touch of the licorice earthiness maybe the bolder Brunellos are known for. Almost drank a bit pinot noir like. We loved it but not a huge bold experience.

A very densely knit effort, but pretty much an intellectual wine. Too much thinking needed to detect immediate pleasure you should have with this wine. Something makes it quite intrusive on the palate and occupies space, without delivering a balanced and widespread set of aromas that you expect from this highly noted pian dell’orino. Maybe a question of bottle evolution, but the 2009 tasted alongside displayed quite the same general direction.

Surprisingly youthful and ripe, but not in a tannic sort of way. Big balsamic notes, ripe cherry, figs, herbal notes and a bit of tomato, but this is very much a fruit driven style of wine. There are some subtle oak notes, but I would never describe this as being oaky at all. It feels like it is a little lacking in acidity (although far from flabby) but it is probably technically medium and just masked by the fruit a bit. Very smooth ripe tannins that are fully integrated. This was good straight out of the bottle, but better after about 45 minutes. Very good wine, but made in a style that is more flat out delicious, rather than classical. I think this will age and mature for at least a decade, with the slightly lower acidity being my only slight concern.

Clear, dark-ruby color. Secondary aromas come alive with air- fennel, tea leaf, mushrooms, tar, rose petal, dried soil, framing black cherry and orange zest fruit. Vibrant fruit on the palate, a similar dichotomy of black cherry fruit with citrus highlights, with nuanced depth of flavors, more compact and less defined than on the nose, but of a similar nature- this is all about the fruit right now. Silky and elegant mid-palate weight, with bright and lively acidity and finely chiseled tannins, overlaying a juicy dry finish with good length. Drinking well, but no hurry on this one. Stellar.

'07 Pian dell'Orino - riper, modern style with lovely sweetness of fruit, slightly lower acid. this was the favorite night one for it's primary fruit, but on night two, the paganelli held up better. both very good, different styles. 93

Medium dark garnet. Ripe fruit, prune like nose with lots of fruit. It smelled more mature than it tasted. Medium bodied with drying tannin and structured acid, fruit, leather, and a hint of mellow herb or eucalyptus. Plums and raisin are dominant, but they yield to a slight tannic astringency. Opens and softens after about an hour. Complex and lovely.

I agree with what Canan said below. I decanted my btl for a couple hours which I think was smart. I'm happy to say this spendy btl of Brunello is really great and leans more traditional than modern. Color was a translucent ruby color rather than dark Cabernet color like a modern producers interpetation would show. This hit me with a beautiful gush of violet aromas upon opening and never showed much oak on the nose. Great purity of fruit, freshness and elegance. If you only have 1 or 2 it would be best to wait till year 10+ but this does provide pleasure and insight into the producer now. I still have 2 more that I'll wait on till 2017.

Very intense nose with cherry-pits and some sweet sewer notes. Quite complex nose with vanilla, dirt and a field of flowers (mostly roses). Also shows some manure. The palate is very impressive and powerful. Very intense cherry fruit that is still very primary and an almost insane acidity mixed with a very young and harsh tannin structure. A powerful and semi-modern Brunello that really shows some promise! Loved it, but still very very young! 93-96p

A powerful and semi-modern Brunello that really shows some promise!
Loved it, but still very very young! 93-96p
