Enjoyed this bottle alongside '10 Pahlmeyer and '13 Peter Michael Les Pavots. This wine has nice structure and seem to be in a great drinking window, where it will remain for some time. Wonderful bright red fruit - cherries / raspberries. Served with Beef Bourguignon. Decanted for 1 hr. My #2 of the evening. WOTN was the '10 Pahlmeyer, which is drinking wonderfully right now.

Purchased and enjoyed at Archie’s Waeside, LeMars, IA (great steaks!). Decanted. The wine was chameleon, changed a lot over an hour or two. Initially aroma was very expressive green pepper, violets, spice. Pepper notes subsided, became darker fruit, and fruit dominant, less forward. Late evening culinary herb, tabac. Nicely balanced entry and smooth tannin gave way to a fairly linear mid palate, dominated by acid. Good tannin and paired well with rich steak, but never felt like the acid was fully integrated. Carried the alcohol (14.6) well until end of night at home when seemed hot. Overall enjoyed the wine but for the money disappointed in the experience.

This wine is in a great window for drinking. It still needs a solid hour of decanting before the wine begins to open up. The dark fruit notes do not emerge until at least an hour of air time. The spice and wood notes with some cassis and violet aromatics will be evident upon opening. After an hour, the prominent, but smoother tannins carry the dark blue fruit notes, with cassis, violet, all-spice, cedar onward with some minerality, loam and even some saddle leather notes on the long way out finish.

Two hour decant and OMG! Dark black fruit and violet notes with some profound wood and loam with a long finish carried by prominent and smooth tannins! Damn this wine has improved! Amazing quality for the price! Glad I am an early member and still get a six pack of each mountain cab.

I echo my notes from April, except I was getting more baked plum pie and fig jam notes in this wine, and less violets and more darker type baking chocolate notes permeating in. Took about 20 minutes for the dust to settle so to speak. A lot of sediment at the bottom of this bottle.

Whoah mama. This one is firing on all cylinders. Was served tonight as a pop and pour and was ready for action after minimal air. Nose is blackberry, violets, dark baking chocolate. Entry is dark, luscious, round. Mature blackberry and graphite and flinty minerality here on the front. Dark chocolate, espresso, the sweet youthful fruit has given way to darker and more mature notes. Finish has black pepper and oak is present but softer. Tannin is resolving and there is quite a bit of sediment here that I don't think I recall from previous bottles. Distinctly different wine vs the Howell from the same year, at least in youth, as there is typically more blueberry and vanilla and more of a volcanic quality in the Howell Mtn bottle. In youth, these Mt Veeder bottles can be quite strangled by the oak. This is lovely and will be doing well for a while.

First from my six pack. Stellar wine just beginning to hit its stride. Decanted for one hour and drank over the next two hours. Dark fruit framed by Liam, cedar and spice contained by firm, but not abrasive tannins. I will wait a year before opening another. I think that this wine will improve over the next decade.

This was the best bottle yet of the 2010s. We tasted with a sommelier who noted aromas of currant, cherry compote, light oak, spice and licorice. Big black fruit flavors and crushed rocks from mountain fruit. “Grippy tannins” with a 20-second finish.

Fantastic wine. Decanted for two hours prior to drinking. Really opens up after about three hours. Other people have captured the flavor profile well. Definitely notes of cedar and olive to start with. Nicely blended and smooth. Long finish. Drinking very well now. Don't hesitate to work your way through your cellar on this one.

Decanted for 2 hours, gorgeous black and red fruit aromatics. On the palate, a perfect blend of plum, black cherry and blackberry jam flavors intertwined with chocolate and coffee. This is a magnificent example of mountain fruit from Napa. One of my favorite vintages from O’Shaughnessy’s Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon.

My last of 6 bottles purchased directly from the winery. It was opened, but not decanted, for over an hour, with 5 other members of my wine group. While only 1 of us had this as their favorite, everyone else had it as their 2nd favorite, out of the 3 reds we drank. For me, this was so much better than the 2010 Philip Togni we had alongside it. Most vintages I prefer O'Shaughnessy's Howell Mountain, but the 2010 Mt. Veeders were special.

Obviously an excellent wine. Agree with the prior write ups. Only thing to add is that I had this over two days. The sweet spot for this wine is 2 - 4 hours after opening. Surprisingly, it wasn't as good the next day. To give some context, I'm still fan of the Howell Mountain O'Shaughnessy over the Mt. Veeder.

Though probably 1-3yrs from its full potential, this was really singing last night. Rich, round and full, it showed all the signs of the past bottles/vintages that I’ve enjoyed over the years. Licorice and herb infused, with deep blackish blue fruits and great integration and balance. By far, the most enjoyable Cab I’ve had in probably the past 6-7yrs. Phenomenal!

Father's Day Tastings (Blind); 6/16/2017-6/18/2017: This was very interesting and confusing. After an hour decant, it was clear to me that this should not be decanted. It was better straight from the bottle. After a 5 hour decant my view changed again totally and it was clear the decant made a beautiful wine. The rating above is for the 5 hour decant. My initial rating was 92 pnp.
In the initial hour decant, the tomato comes through too strongly.

Last of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.
Deep garnet red. Tons of tomato on the nose straight from the bottle, finally after five hours or so it really started to open up with toasty notes, earthy, woody, a touch green, dark red fruits, forest floor, and a touch of damp leaves. Layered and powerful. Heavy tannins (7/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Dark fruits and sweet spices, solid mountain berries too. Cherries, woody and oaky notes. A touch green as well. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2027.

Slow-oxed for 18 hours and decanted for 2. Dark blue and black fruit, flint along with other interesting mineral notes and faint mint. Well balanced with a long finish, its ready now but greatly benefits from a very long decant.
I will open my next bottle in 2020. In the meantime, I'll drink the 2010 Howell Mountain because its more approachable and a little softer.

Had this on NYE with a standing prime rib roast, along with a 2012 Shafer One Point Five. Both wines were opened, but not decanted, for a few hours. Really nice, but right now... I think I prefer the Howell Mountain bottling of O'Shaughnessy. That being said, notes of casis and maybe mint to go with a long finish.

Decanted for 6 hours and was still slow to unwind. Dark red and blue fruit, flint, good minerality and balance. Long finish. Not ready yet but will be fantastic when it hits its window. Very good now with a long decant but I'd wait until 2018 to drink.

It is Open that bottle of wine night so I grabbed this one out of the cellar. I see the open date has mover to 2017, I agree although very enjoyable this bottle was still a little tannic. This wine is clearly unique from Napa cabs of a similar price point.

18 months since my last bottle and this wine is coming together nicely. Not as big upfront with the fruit as a Pride Mtn Reserve was that we had alongside. But the O' was more nuanced and better balanced.

Had this at a NYC Steakhouse dinner, with three other friendds, alongside the 2010 Joel Gott 10 Cabernet Sauvignon. Both wines were decanted, with the Gott being poured first, although we were drinking both wines together for comparison.
We were split on which wine was better. The Gott had more of an upfront heavy black fruit approach. I felt the O'Shaughnessy had a more complex taste and longer finish. It was also less upfront with the fruit.
They are both great Cabs and went really well with the steaks. I prefered the O'Shaughnessy, Also on a not related to my score note, the O'Shaughnessy had a lot of sediment. I know WA says to wait, but this is drinking great right now.

Powerful, concentrated, fresh, tannic and long, with a big bite of sweet, juicy blackberries and cassis. This should age quite well. The wine was made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon planted on Mt. Veeder.

Smoky cherry and dark fruit are coming forward just a bit since last try over 18 months ago. Tannins still lurking, but rounding just a bit. I'd better try to hold on to a couple of these to see where they go, but they're already calling out for me to drink 'em up. Delicious!
Why wait until 2016? We opened this bottle on a sun drenched deck at Canoe Bay in central Wisconsin. Perfect fall weather and perfect wine. Velvet in the mouth, just the right amount of oak and deep complex flavor.

Too early to drink for sure, but...promising hint of future greatness certainly here. This is my first non-Howell Mountain O'Shaughnessy, and, while I'm a huge HM fan, this is certainly a wonderful bottle of wine. Smoky cherries abound, but tannic astringency needs bottle rest to round out.

This is a solid wine but must be honest that just like the Howell this is at the bottom end of my expectations after the last few years. I actually found this wine very enjoyable straight out of the bottle but with just a little bit of air the tannins really show themselves. To me this knocked the wine back a little bit. Loads of dark fruit and a long finish but the finish is mostly chalky due to the tannins. I am hoping that some time will help integrate these.

This of course is still a baby. Firm tannins with a nice backbone of fruit. Dark red cherry, and mint almost eucalyptol on the nose. Some licorice and crushed rock. Lots of minerality and acidity to it, making your mouth water. This needs a decade in the cellar but it will be worth it. Fantastic.

Mt. Veeder Tasting. Nose of violets, red cherry fruit, Mt. Veeder earth, and anise, more of he same on the palate, very interesting complexity, needs four years in the cellar and will probably earn a higher score, medium/big body, long finish.

Winorama with a surprise (engagement)!; 9/15/2013-9/18/2013 (Napa Valley California): Tasted at the winery. Such limited production so very glad that we're on the list and have some bottles coming. This was wonderful - grassy on the nose like many Mt. Veeder cabs, more muted fruits, very nice and deep on the palate. I get vanilla and molasses and a touch of smokiness. Long finish. Of the six of us tasting, four picked this over the Howell although both were great wines

Delicious. Thick, rich, lots of dark fruit but nice acidity and some dusty tannins to balance it all out. I think just starting to enter a nice long drinking window.

Still too early to drink. But this is already lip smacking good. Will continue to improve and I believe could go up 1-3 points. But rating as it is today versus it's potential.
