In a bit of a weird spot, very evocative nose with all of the signature tar and rosewater, as well as some salami and forest floor. Palate still tight and tart, coarse tannins. Improved a bit on day 2, but still reticent. Feels like it's just starting to come out of its shell. Hold a few more years.

Tasted at the Matter of Taste Zurich 2022 Walkaround Tour, hence only brief notes: Deep and broad bouquet showing smoke, a bit of petrol, rose water and red cherry fruit. Refined and elegant with a fresh and fruity, surprisingly lightly structured palate.

A matter of taste - Day 1: *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Seems to me reaching its peak. Beautiful structure, very mineral, good grip. Beautiful classic Nebbiolo nose. 92

Immediately upon opening, this was plummy, over ripe and tight, and not distinguishable as Barolo or even Nebbiolo broadly. With time, the stewed fruit retracted and a brooding dark wine with hints of anise, tar, and stern black cherry emerged. Body is tight , limited fruit and youthful chalky and very dry tannins. Long dry finish but not dimensional.
Would have no clue what this was blind…just tastes over ripe basically to me

This tastes and smells like French oak. It might have some Nebbiolo in it. It might also have some Zinfandel in it. Your guess is as good as mine. “This is a nice cab!” said my dining companion.

Fruit forward with medium+ acidity. Lovely light color. Roses and some of that acetone (can't find a better word). Will not touch my next bottle for about 5 years. Still young.

The nose on the 2009 Lazzarito showed depths of dusty, dark red fruits, earthy minerals, dried perfumed florals and undergrowth--just as we would expect, yet not so much from a ripe vintage. Its layered bouquet was further complicated by lifting marine-inspired minerality, which only came forward over time. On the palate, I found a soft expression, offset by tart black and red berry fruit, with saturating saline-minerality, brisk acids and grippy tannin adding poise. The finish was long, resonating on wild herbal tones, with tart black cherry and spice, yet also quite structured and balanced for the vintage. It was such a pleasure to taste this today, as the only sign of the hot ‘11 vintage was found in a slight astringency to the tannin. Otherwise, this is a great expression of Lazzarito.

Tasted this wine alongside the '10 which I had a preference for but this wine is still excellent. The nose gives more than the '10 with perfumed, rose water. The palate is quite soft and elegant and certainly less dominant than the '10.

NY Wine Experience (Marriot Marquis): extremely tannic, young, tightly wound. I love Vietti so spoke with the Rep there and took my time with the wine. It shows the precise austere fruit that if given a good 10-15 years this wine will become an elegant Barolo.

Roses, flowers and dried herbs dominate the palate as well as red fruits, dried earth, raw earth and potpourri. The wine is medium bodied with great acid and big tannins. Of the three Crus I've tasted (Lazzarito, Brunate and Rocche) this was my second favorite. Long life ahead.

Italy 2012 - Piemonte; 7/8/2012-7/14/2012 (La Morra): Tasted at the winery. From barrel. Tighter on the nose than the ’09 Brunate but offering lighter red fruits and some higher toned notes as well. In the mouth this was medium to full bodied with firm and rough tannins with good acidity and a drying finish. This comes across as more masculine with its very firm/gum ripping tannins. Nice minerality on the palate as well. The materials are here for something really good but difficult to judge at this point. Judgment reserved.

Greatly enjoyed although still quite young. More delicate style, but at the same time sensed the structure and power behind it. Very seductive.

well made wine, tatsed next to 2010 and fared second, appeared less distinctive and flatter, both acidity and fruits.
